Back under way again and Nahki Wells gets the first sight of goal for Bristol City but a ball in flicks off his head and runs away as he tried to glance it on target.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Oxford 0-0 Bristol City

A stop-start beginning at the Kassam Stadium so far. We've got an early break in play as Oxford's Peter Kioso goes down under a challenge from Bristol City's Ross McCrorie, who has gone into the book already.

Might be a slightly harsh booking after less than four minutes but McCrorie will need to watch his step for the rest of this one.

    Plymouth 0-0 West Brom

The West Brom fans who have travelled down the entirety of the M5 are in good voice in these early stages, and the home fans respond as their team begin on the front foot.

But an early Plymouth corner comes to nothing.

    What a chance!

Norwich starting on the front foot and should be ahead within 65 seconds.

Lucien Mehovo gets to the byline and pings a cross into the six-yard box where Josh Sargent is unmarked, but fires his shot straight at Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond.

England, Northern Ireland, Spain, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Poland, Bosnia, Ukraine.

Those are the different nationalities of this Plymouth line-up. The Championship really is a multi-national league these days.

Forming a spirit amongst that will be a real challenge for Miron Muslic.

Miron Muslic opts for three changes to the Plymouth side which drew at Sunderland last Saturday.

Michael Baidoo comes into attack, while there are debuts for the club's new defenders, Bosnia's Nikola Katic and Ukraine international Maksym Talovyerov.

An easy call for West Brom boss Tony Mowbray after that 5-1 win over Portsmouth. Same again, lads! No changes for the trip to Devon.

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett makes just the one change from the goalless draw at Stoke City last weekend.

Mark Harris returns to the lead the line in place of Tom Bradshaw, who drops to the bench.

Liam Manning has made five changes for Bristol City following their 2-1 win over Blackburn last time out.

Ross McCrorie, Joe Williams, Mark Sykes and George Earthy all come into the starting line-up, as does Nahki Wells who makes his 200th league appearance for the Robins.

George Tanner, Max Bird, Haydon Roberts, Anis Mehmeti and Sinclair Armstrong drop to the bench.

Watford head coach Tom Cleverley has made four changes to the side that lost to Coventry City last time out.

James Abankwah, Ryan Andrews, Imran Louza and Moussa Sissoko return to the starting line-up, while new goalkeeper Egil Selvik is on the bench.

But there's just one change to the Norwich team which thumped Swansea 5-1 last weekend as Jacob Sorensen replaces winger Onel Hernandez.

Plymouth v West Brom (12:30 GMT)

West Brom manager Tony MowbrayImage source, Rex Features

It did not take long for West Brom to get a reminder of what life used to be like under Tony Mowbray as they romped to a season's best 5-1 win over Portsmouth seven days ago.

The secret now is for the Baggies to repeat the trick on the road if they want to consolidate their play-off position.

But that is easier said than done as Albion have won only one of their last 12 away games, although they have drawn seven of those.

Against them are a Plymouth side buoyed by a surprise 2-2 draw at Sunderland last week, but they are still winless since early November, a wretched run of 15 games.

The Pilgrims are seven points from safety and their hopes of a revival must start quickly.

  14. Robins boss Manning returns to face Uspublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

Oxford v Bristol City (12:30 GMT)

Liam Manning celebrates after beating Blackburn at Ashton GateImage source, Rex Features

In-form Oxford United welcome Bristol City to the Kassam Stadium, who are led by former Us boss Liam Manning.

Oxford are unbeaten in their past eight games since Gary Rowett took over in late December (W5 D3) and have won four in a row at home - a run which has seen them move up to 16th and nine points clear of the drop zone.

Robins head coach Manning says he had some “good memories” during his eight-month spell at Oxford in 2023 but is “all in” at Bristol City and fully focused on trying to win the game today.

His side are just three points off a play-off spot having lost just one of their past seven (W4 D2) and could go level on points with West Bromwich Albion in sixth before they play on Monday night.

If City are to pick up three points today, they’ll need to end their seven-game winless run away from home (D3 L4), having not won on the road since beating Norwich 2-0 at Carrow Road on 9 November.

  15. Hornets and Canaries out to bolster play-off bidspublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

    Watford v Norwich (12:30 GMT)

While no match is defining at this stage of the season, both Watford and Norwich will be keen to keep pace with their fellow play-off contenders.

The Hornets are on their worst run of the season, with five defeats and four points from their past seven matches, but despite that remain within three points and as many places of the top six.

City are just two points and a couple of places further adrift after a 5-1 win over Swansea last time out gave them a third victory in five.

However, the Canaries’ form on the road needs to improve - and fast - if they are to make it through to the play-offs for a second season running.

They’ve won just one of their past 11 matches on the road, failing to score in four of the past six. But they head to Vicarage Road at a good time.

Watford have lost their last three on home soil - another today would inevitably pile more scrutiny on boss Tom Cleverley's position.

The Championship table before kick-off on 1 February

A point will more than likely be enough to keep Leeds United top of the Championship when they welcome Cardiff City later this afternoon, given their superior goal difference.

Blackburn moved up to fifth with their 2-1 win over Preston in the Lancashire derby last night but West Bromwich Albion will go back above them if they beat bottom side Plymouth, who are seven points adrift from safety, at 12:30 GMT.

In the other lunchtime kick-offs, Bristol City could squeeze the gap on the top six with victory at Oxford United, while Watford and Norwich will both be hoping to do the same.

At the other end, nine of the bottom 10 are in action in the battle to avoid relegation, with just two points separating Hull City in 19th from Derby in 22nd.

Blackburn players celebrate scoring against PrestonImage source, Rex Features

The Championship weekend began last night as Blackburn survived a late Preston fightback to win 2-1 at Ewood Park.

Makhtar Gueye's first-half header and Todd Cantwell's penalty kick in the second half were enough for John Eustace's side to end a three-match losing run, which had seen them drop out of the top six.

Brad Potts pulled one back in injury time for Preston, but Rovers held on to move up to fifth and leave the Lilywhites in 15th.

    Good afternoon!

It’s the first day of the month and just like that, there are only three of them left until the final day of the Championship season.

We're also only a few days out from the transfer window closing and clubs have been doing plenty of business.

But there are important matters to take care of on the actual green thing teams play on too and today promises to be another bumper ride of second-tier action.

It all gets going with three lunchtime kick-offs in about half-an-hour, so shall we make a start?
