Tottenham's players' names were read out over the public address system and the loudest cheer was reserved for defender Micky van de Ven.

The 23-year-old centre-back returns from injury to make his first appearance since December 8 and he has been sorely missed.

The Spurs support, to their credit, appear to have put the Leicester defeat behind them and are behind the team early on.

There are still chants of "we want Levy out" going around the ground and they will get louder if this doesn't go their way.

Heavy touch from United keeper Altay Bayindir from a backpass but the hit-and-miss Turk deals with it.

You never quite know with Spurs at the moment. I am confident but they are in a bit of a hole at the moment. I do expect them to win here tonight.

  5. Postpublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    Tottenham 0-0 Elfsborg

A positive start for Tottenham. Mikey Moore does really well to get up the pitch at pace and find Son Heung-Min but the Spurs captain's shot is blocked.

Good atmosphere at the National Arena in Bucharest. FCSB, like MUFC, are also bidding to book a place in the last 16.

    Peter Crouch

What I don't understand is why this [the injury situation] wasn't addressed on 1st January. We are still here talking about it towards the end of the month.

Yeah they signed a goalkeeper but no outfiled players. The squad needs some experience and some help.

The young players have been hung out to dry a little bit by being thrown into the team and they have reacted really well, but you have to say it has been a pretty disappointing January.

The way Tottenham play the full-backs bomb on and they leave the centre-backs exposed.

In no game has Ange Postecoglou protected those centre-halves.

    They have been so exposed.

There is always pressure but at the moment Tottenham are in a bit of a hole. They need to stay together as a collective. They are playing against a side they should beat here but tonight looking at the situation you should get a good performance and a good win.

  12. 'Elfsborg will not be pushovers'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    Tottenham v Elfsborg (20:00 GMT)

    Glenn Hoddle
Former England and Tottenham manager on TNT Sports

Elfsborg are a little more fragile away from home, but at home they have got some big results in this competition. Having said that they went to Galatasaray and ran them close and that is not an easy place to go to. They will not be pushovers. They have something to play for themselves tonight.

Micky van de Ven is so quick and it allows Tottenham to play the high line that Ange Postecoglou likes.

I hope Spurs don't bring him back too early. I hope he gets through this game and he can build from there.

Micky van de Ven is a huge piece to the jigsaw puzzle.

Key players in key positions for Tottenham [are injured], but I still think there needs to be flexibility from Ange Postecoglou.

  17. 'Might be a bit of rustiness and we can take advantage'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    Tottenham v Elfsborg (20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to TNT Sports: "Massive prize for us [to go straight into the last sixteen]. It is a great incentive for us tonight [to avoid extra games in the play-offs], aside from getting into the knockout stages. We have worked hard to get into a good position and to be playing at home to give ourselves a good path to go beyond this stage is good."

On the return of Micky van de Ven: "45 minutes will do him tonight. He has worked hard in training, he has ticked every box and had been ready for a little while. We earmarked this game as a good chance to ease him back in. It will be good to have him back in the side."

On Mikey Moore starting another European game: "He's done really well for us in Europe. He was unfortunate to have had a setback earlier in the season, missing a couple of months with an illness. We got to this point in the competition off the back of young players' performances. There's three teenagers in the lineup again today and it will be exciting to see how that goes."

On opponents Elfsborg: "It is a different stage of the season for them. They will have plenty of energy and enthusiasm on the back of pre season - it is obviously the opposite situation for us. Perhaps as they haven't played a lot of games there might be a bit of rustiness and we can take advantage of that."

  18. 'All strikers live for scoring goals'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

FCSB v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Rene Meulensteen
Former Manchester United coach on BBC Radio 5 Live

The number nine is a big problem because Rasmus Hojlund has not kicked on after his first season.

In his defence Hojlund is a player who reacts on the players behind him.

Whether they can send him in-behind the back four or he relies on crosses coming in from wide place. Hopefully, Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot can push on to make that happen.

The role Hojlund played against Fulham he was holding the ball up, but his first touch was awful - he is struggling for form.

All strikers live for scoring goals, but if you don't get a a lot of chances it's going to be a big task.

  19. Lazio look to equal recordpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    Braga v Lazio (20:00 GMT)

Lazio have won six of their seven Europa League games this season, while drawing the other.

Only in 1997-98 (Uefa Cup), 1999-00 (Champions League) and in 2017-18 (Europa League), have an Italian club won more games (seven) in a single campaign in Europe.

Marco Baroni's side could well be on to equal that tonight and beat that figure later this season.

  20. 'The life of a keeper is a very unforgiving one'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    Rangers v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 GMT)

I'm sure you've all seen the clanger Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland made in last week's loss to Man Utd after he rushed from his goal to punch a corner clear but ended up jabbing it into his own net.

"The life of a keeper is a very unforgiving one," said Butland. "There's maximum punishment, you know. I look back at that situation and that goal and what I did was trying to be positive, trying to help the team out. I made the right decision to come, but just executed it not in the way that I wanted to."
