  1. Postpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

Bromley do have more points on the road than at their Hayes Lane home so far this season so they're more than capable on their travels.

That goal from Louis Dennis also makes it just once in their past 13 league games where they've failed to score.

Gillingham haven't really responded to going behind yet.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Newport 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Newport frontman Kyle Hudlin is gifted a promising chance at goal after the men in white make a real mess of clearing the ball out of the penalty area.

A Wimbledon clearance ricochets around and rolls into the path of Hudlin but his shot drifts wide.

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

Josh Andrews is having a fresh bandage applied but you have to question how much longer he can continue for Gillingham.

Referee Ben Atkinson is taking a keen interest in this - any sign of blood and he'll need more treatment.

It's a long break in play.

  4. Postpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Newport 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon's Josh Neufville goes storming on the counter-attack and crosses a ball into the penalty area.

Alistair Smith connects but his header can only reach the safe gloves of Newport keeper Jacob Carney.

  5. CLOSE!published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

More Bromley pressure and they are inches from a second.

Danny Imray finds space on the right and he lashes a wonderful ball across the six-yard box which three visiting attackers fail to get a vital touch on.

Josh Andrews is having more treatment for Gillingham for that head injury.

  6. CLOSE!published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Newport 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Newport's Kai Whitmore cuts the ball to an unmarked Bobby Kamwa he blasts, unopposed, into the box.

The Wimbledon defenders are scrambling to try and provide cover but it's Kamwa's speed which proves to be his downfall as he overruns and curls his ball wide of the net.

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

Remember what was said ahead of kick-off about Gillingham's issues in front of goal?

Only Tranmere, Carlisle and Harrogate have scored fewer than their 22 goals so far although 16 of those have come at Priestfield.

Either way it's going to take a bit of work to get back into this already.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Newport 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

Confident shot at goal from Newport's Michael Spellman, who strikes from distance and causes the visiting keeper to keep light on his feet to tip his attempt over the bar.

Not long later, Spellman tries his luck again but sees the same result.

    Third time lucky?

  9. Postpublished at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

Gillingham's Josh Andrews is now sporting a bandage around his head after coming off worse in an aerial battle.

His side need to give their collective heads a wobble after conceding that early goal.

  10. 'The worst possible start'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham 0-1 Bromley

    Peter Lloyd
    BBC Radio Kent

The worst possible start for Gillingham.

Dennis had the legs on the defenders there, he got a little bit of fortune there, but there was nothing Morris could do.

Not a good start from a Gillingham perspective, but a great start for Bromley.

    Louis Dennis (7 mins)

    What a start.

Michael Cheek gets himself away down the Gillingham left and his cross arrives at the feet of Jude Arthurs, whose effort is well saved by Glenn Morris but Louis Dennis is on hand to tuck home from close range.

Dennis back in the starting line-up tonight as one of two changes for The Ravens and he's grabbed his second goal of the season.

  12. Postpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham 0-0 Bromley

A good break from Joseph Gbode for Gillingham, getting the better of Kamarl Grant, he cuts the ball back but Timothee Dieng scuffs his shot and it's cleared away.

A good atmosphere inside Priestfield tonight for only the third meeting between these two.

Bromley won the reverse fixture last month while Gillingham came out on top in an FA Cup tie 18 years ago.

  13. Postpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Newport 0-0 AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon have settled nicely into their trip to Rodney Parade.

Alistair Smith flicks the ball on to Josh Kelly for the first attempt at goal of the night but the forward isn't sure footed and sends the ball well wide of the target.

AFC Wimbledon ended 2024 with all three points against Gillingham to close the year second in League Two, but it was a controversial victory, with the winning goal appearing to come offMatty Stevens' right arm.

Likely, in a land of VAR, the goal would have been chalked off, and perhaps they might have even lost if a penalty decision hadn't gone their way in the first half - but this is League Two, after all.

Besides, Wimbledon won't be feeling all that guilty, but they might want to prove the naysayers wrong by impressing against a struggling Newport side tonight.

If they take all three points in their trip to Wales, they will displace Doncaster Rovers and return to second thanks to a healthy goal difference.

They will also rid themselves of a pesky winless streak when it comes to new year fixtures (D2 L4), but it'll take claiming their first victory over the Welsh side in six league games (D4 L1) to do so.

Despite Newport County head coach Nelson Jardim reaffirming that Bryn Morris' absence from their 2-0 defeat by Walsall on Sunday was nothing to do with transfers, well... Morris has departed.

The midfielder, who had been a mainstay in the squad since his first appearance in August against Accrington Stanley, has joined League Two rivals Harrogate Town citing personal reasons.

It's a tough pill to take for County, who lost their final two fixtures of the year to leave themselves six points above the relegation zone.

Not to mention that their first opponents of 2025 happen to be fighting for an automatic promotion place.

But the Welsh side have drawn their opening match of the calendar year for five straight years, and being that the two sides faced each other a month ago to share the spoils, are the stars aligning for another stalemate?

Having earned promotion to the EFL for the first time in their history via the National League play-offs and promptly won their first two league outings you could forgive Bromley fans for thinking their was nothing to this League Two lark.

A nine-game winless run brought about a period of, shall we say, adjustment for Andy Woodman's side but they are now unbeaten in their past nine in all competitions, and with an FA Cup trip to Newcastle to come next weekend it's fair to say everything is rosy at Hayes Lane.

Michael Cheek spent a non-league career terrorising defences with bucketloads of goals for the likes of Heybridge Swifts, Chelmsford City and Braintree Town before arriving at Bromley five years ago.

At the ripe old age (in footballing terms anyway) of 32 he scored twice in the play-off final against Solihull Moors to finally make the jump into the EFL and has more more than 100 goals in a Bromley shirt.

Those wondering whether Cheek could carry on his prolific scoring form in League Two have been put in their place with his 12 goals making him the division's joint-second top scorer behind Walsall's Nathan Lowe.

Had he not turned 33 in August, January might have brought a few bids from clubs higher up the pyramid.

We'll keep an eye out for towering centre-half Omar Sowunmi at both ends of the field tonight (he's scored in each of the past three games), and whisper it, but a win for the Ravens would carry them to within three points of the top seven.

  18. Gills juggernaut stuck in first gearpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Gillingham v Bromley (19:45 GMT)

Gillingham head coach Mark BonnerImage source, Rex Features

This wasn't how it was supposed to be for Gillingham.

With a League Two promotion-winning manager in charge and the financial backing of Brad Galinson they were expected to be up with the big boys by now.

Mark Bonner's success in getting Cambridge United out of the fourth tier and keeping them in League One made him the ideal choice for those at the helm at Priestfield, and an unbeaten start with three wins from their opening four matches seemed to be proving that an astute judgement.

But since that electric opening the Gills have managed only six victories from their subsequent 18 outings, which included a five-game losing streak. They have lost their past two over the festive period, to Colchester United and AFC Wimbledon, without scoring in the process.

Only Tranmere, Carlisle and Harrogate have scored fewer than Gillingham's 22 goals so far this season, which is clearly where the problems lay when you take into account that, along with Crewe, they have the fourth-best defensive record in the division.

Bonner was Gillingham's third permanent head coach in the space of seven months, and the team are currently stranded in 14th place, seven points adrift of the play-off places. The Kent side need to start 2025 with a string of wins if they're not to spend a fourth straight season in League Two.

  19. Six changes for Gillingham; two for Bromleypublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

After two successive defeats, Gillingham boss Mark Bonner makes six changes and Bradley Dack and Conor Masterson miss out altogether.

Dropping down to the bench are Sam Gale, Armani Little, Jayden Clarke and Elliott Nevitt.

In come Shadrach Ogie, Timothee Dieng, Jack Nolan, Jonny Williams, Joseph Bode and Josh Andrews.

Bromley are unbeaten in their past 11 league games and they make two changes as Deji Elerewe and Louis Dennis return to the starting line-up in place of Callum Reynolds and Cameron Congreve who drop to the bench.

Ashley Charles is also among the substitutes after missing the past four games because of injury.

AFC Wimbledon make two changes from the side that won at Cherry Red Records Stadium before the new year.

Isaac Ogundere comes into the starting line-up alongside Sam Hutchinson.

Romaine Sawyers is available from the bench while John-Joe O'Toole doesn't make the trip.
