That's as far as we go in here today when just four Championship games produced stacks of drama.

Sheffield United end the day in second after battling to a 2-1 win over struggling Portsmouth, who were excellent but slipped to a seventh straight away loss.

Earlier fourth-placed Sunderland needed a late equaliser against Watford to keep their unbeaten home record going with a 2-2 draw and West Brom wernt fifth with an injury-time winner against Sheffield Wednesday.

There was also late drama at Norwich, where Jerry Yates bagged a penalty in time added on to stop managerless Derby falling to an eighth straight loss.

The FA Cup live text is ongoing if you fancy a slice of that action.

We'll be back with more from the EFL tomorrow when Bristol City, who could go sixth, face ailing Swansea at 12:00 GMT.

Thanks for your company and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Cheers!

  2. Le Fee's endless energy key for Sunderlandpublished at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February

    Enzo Le Fee touch map

Sunderland's loan signing Enzo Le Fee was everywhere down that left-hand side for the hosts today.

He has that rare but valuable combination of possessing immense quality on the ball and the grit and determination to press, challenge and track back.

And he looks like he genuinely enjoys it. Endless energy.

The Frenchman looks to be a fantastic signing on loan from Roma and will surely play a big role over the next few months if the Black Cats are able to secure promotion to the Premier League.

  3. The one that got away for Pompey...published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February

There wont be many teams who come to Bramall Lane this season and create almost twice the amount of expected goals as the home team.

Of course it's scant consolation for Pompey on a day that they fell to a seventh straight away defeat and those two very large yellow circles close to goal, misses from Connor Ogilvie and Callum Lang, will haunt both players and fans on the long journey home.

However, boss John Mousinho will certainly look to take the positives from this display against the team second in the table.

Almost 1,800 Derby fans applauded their players as they came over to the away end, following an injury time draw against Norwich.

It ends a seven-game losing league streak and provides some foundation for whoever is going to take up the manager’s role at the club, who remain in the relegation zone.

Norwich briefly held a play-off position this afternoon when Josh Sargent put them in the lead. They will rue being laboured with their play in the first half while Derby always showed intent.

Watford head coach Tom Cleverley told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"For 80 minutes, we were absolutely outstanding. We showed character, we wanted to get on the ball. We suffered a setback, but we responded brilliantly.

"I thought the game-plan was executed perfectly for 80 minutes but then we had a really poor last 10 minutes.

"It was schoolboy stuff and we're much better than that. We've managed to see games out much more efficiently than that.

"It's disappointing as it feels like we've lost two points as the performance was so strong up to then."

Dennis Cirkin's 89th-minute equaliser for Sunderland preserved their unbeaten home record with a draw against Watford.

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris told BBC Radio Newcastle: "We started well and finished well, but I'm a bit disappointed.

"It wasn't a surprise the challenge we faced, as this team (Watford) has many powerful players. It suited perfectly with our own weaknesses and we were dominated one-v-one.

"After their second goal, we played to our strengths and it was more positive as it's not easy to change the dynamic of a game.

"Our second half was better with some subs and at the end, their goalkeeper was man of the match, so we had chances to win."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The second half was a good Championship game from both teams, both teams tried to win it.

"It's hard. I really feel for my players. I think we deserved a point. In the first half West Brom did more for the game, but it was ok for me, today. We changed the game with the subs. A draw would have been fantastic today, and deserved.

"We had the chance to take a point here but at the end we conceded a goal from a set-piece. It's hard to take.

"We believed we could do something. In the first half we had a little too much respect sometimes."

On the disallowed Djeidi Gassama goal: "I never complain about decisions, it is what it is, it's football, but to take a goal back after 16 seconds is a little bit hard to take. It's not really clear for me."

West Brom claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday after Jayson Molumby scored in the final moments following Callum Paterson's injury-time leveller for the away side.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio WM: "I thought there were lots of positives. We were very good first-half, total domination, I think they had one shot.

"We had lots of the ball, just couldn't break through. Second-half was more open, they came more into it, but we had some really good chances.

"Adam Armstrong is a good footballer, he's going to score goals. If he plays the next 15 games, he might not quite get to double figures but he'll not be too far off.

"Ultimately the score is 2-1 to us and we deserved to win over 90 minutes but the injury-time equaliser was a kick in the stomach for us and then to score again so soon afterwards is something the lads have been talking about – we don't score many late goals, how do we cause carnage in the box at the end of a game to score a goal and win a tight match.

"It was brilliant movement in the box from Molumby. I felt over the 97 minutes we deserved to win the game. I am pleased for the fans. We just have to keep going."

Mowbray on Bartley's post-match red card: "I didn't know until he came in and said he'd had a red card. It's really disappointing and frustrating for us. I think he's going to be really important for the team. It's going to be a blow if he's going to miss three games."

  9. Stoke and Cardiff thriller into extra timepublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February

Stoke and Cardiff fans are going to be treated to another 30 minutes of this captivating FA Cup match.

It's finished 3-3 at full-time. The Bluebirds led by two, the Potters fought back to 3-2, and then Cardiff equalised again to send the match to extra time.

Preston and Wycombe have both failed to find a breakthrough so they're also into extra time.

Ipswich are in the hat for the fifth round after a comfortable 4-1 win against Coventry.

Burnley's remarkable shutout streak continues as they beat Southampton 1-0 at St Mary's.

    Championship table

This is how the table looks at the end of today's Championship action.

Sheffield United have closed the gap on league leaders Leeds to two points after battling to a 2-1 win over Portsmouth.

Fourth-placed Sunderland needed a late leveller to share the points from a 2-2 draw with Watford and West Brom needed an even later goal to see of Sheffield Wednesday and move fifth, while also denting the Owls' top six hopes.

Derby ended their seven-match losing streak thanks to Jerry Yates' injury-time penalty against Norwich.

Derby's seven-match losing run is over thanks to Jerry Yates' added-time penalty.

Josh Sargent gave the hosts the lead after the hosts had been largely frustrated by the visitors.

Norwich will feel like they've thrown away a brilliant chance to strengthen their claim for a play-off place.

It's the perfect end to the day for Derby caretaker boss Matt Hamshaw.

He and the Rams have their first point of 2025.

Sheffield United go second as Portsmouth fall to seventh successive loss away from home.

It's a rough one to take for the away side this because they had plenty of chances to score more than just once.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi won it for the hosts when he converted a cross from fellow sub Rhian Brewster.

Pompey stay 20th but are now just two points above the relegation zone.

  20. PENALTY TO DERBYpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February

    Norwich 1-0 Derby

Penalty to the Rams in the 90th minute!

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure what exactly it's for.

Either a handball against Jack Stacey after the ball flicks up off his foot as Marcus Harness moved forward; or, alternatively, the Norwich defender's boot was judged to be too high as he collided with the Derby forward.

Whatever it was, looks very harsh to me.
