Summary

  1. Hatters and Owls look to get going after slow startpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 21 September

Luton v Sheff Wed (15:00 BST)

Both these teams come into today's match with four points from their first five matches.

Luton, relegated from the Premier League last season, recorded their first win of the campaign with a battling 1-0 victory at Millwall last time out and will hope that can be a springboard.

Danny Rohl's Sheffield Wednesday looked to be on course for a first win since the opening day when they took the lead against QPR in stoppage time last Saturday but were then pegged back by an even later strike.

The Owls haven't won at Kenilworth Road since March 1989.

  2. Both sides in formpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 21 September

Sheff Utd v Derby (15:00 BST)

    Final Score

Chris Wilder's Blades are very quickly getting settled into life back in the Championship and his reshaped squad could and should be one of the favourites for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Paul Warne's Derby have also made a steady return to Championship football following last season's League One promotion. Some very shrewd signings have seen a real upturn in results after a slow start.

Both sides are looking for a hat-rick of Championship wins on the bounce and this could be a real cracker of a game.

I was at Hull to see Sheffield United put in a performance which saw them not play well but still come away with all three points. Derby were good value for their 1-0 win over Cardiff and maybe should have scored more.

This one has the hallmarks of a fascinating encounter.

  3. Can unbeaten Blades keep it going against Rams?published at 14:52 British Summer Time 21 September

Sheffield United will be looking to keep the the good times rolling at Bramall Lane today as they host Derby County.

The Blades are yet to be beaten in the league this season, and haven't been bested yet at home in any competition.

Chris Wilder's side now welcome a Rams side that has left Bramall Lane empty handed every time they have gone there since 2017.

Among the visiting Rams today will be Ben Osborn, a midfielder who spent five years with Sheffield United before being released by the Blades following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

  4. 'City fans expecting positive reaction'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 21 September

Bristol City v Oxford United (15:00 BST)

    Final Score

It’s still early in the season but already you sense a simmering disquiet among factions of the Bristol City faithful.

Today, it’s a Family Fun Day at Ashton Gate, but consecutive 3-0 defeats at Derby and Blackburn has wiped pre-season smiles off many supporters’ faces.

They’ll expect a positive reaction today but a fixture with manager Liam Manning’s former club Oxford United will be anything but plain sailing.

The impressive U’s will be backed by a sell-out following of more than 3,500 fans as Des Buckingham’s side target the Championship top six and a first away point at this level since Fat Boy Slim topped the charts with ‘Right Here, Right Now’ in May 1999.

Oxford United are sitting relatively comfortably in the Championship having won all their home games so far this season - but are yet to take any points away from the Kassam Stadium.

A win at Ashton Gate will feel doubly sweet for the visiting fans, as it would come against old boss Liam Manning.

Manning's Bristol City side head into the game off the back of two 3-0 defeats in the Championship.

Their supporters are unlikely to accept anything other than three points today.

  6. Winless Pompey head to Burnleypublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 21 September

It's been a difficult start to life back in the second tier for Portsmouth.

Last season's League One winners are yet to record a victory five games into the season and could probably do without a trip to Turf Moor today.

Burnley have lost just one of their past 38 Championship games in front of their own fans and come into today's contest off the back of a 1-0 win at fellow promotion favourites Leeds last week.

Pompey are unbeaten in their past seven visits to east Lancashire but the most recent of those was way back in December 2011.

  7. Bluebirds looking for first winpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 21 September

    Cardiff v Leeds (15:00 BST)

Bottom side Cardiff have endured their worst start to a league season in 35 years, with just one point from five Championship matches.

Boss Erol Bulut has said he will "never give up" but with owner Vincent Tan having gone through 11 permanent managers in his 14 years at the club that decision could be taken out of his hands if they can't get a positive result today.

"It's normal that I have pressure when you don't have the results we are expecting - what the board and the fans are expecting - but I can live with this," he said.

"With them [Cardiff hierarchy] I don't have a problem. Now we have to speak about being together, fighting together, getting results."

Leeds visit the Welsh capital off the back of their first defeat of the season at home to Burnley last week.

Cardiff and Leeds have a lot riding on this game, from the home side's worst start to a season for 35 years and subsequent pressure on their manager Erol Bulut to the visitors' relatively patchy recent form.

But today is also an opportunity to remember Sol Bamba, the former Cardiff and Leeds captain who died last month aged just 39.

Bamba was a hugely popular figure at both clubs, and you can tell the two sets of supporters - who historically don't get on - have pulled together to pay tribute to the Ivorian today.

There are special commemorative scarves outside the stadium, while Bamba's wife Chloe and their children Roonea, Lily and Amy will be at Cardiff City Stadium.

There will be a minute of applause for Bamba before kick-off, and another in the 14th minute as he wore the number 14 shirt during his five-year spell as a Cardiff player.

It promises to be a poignant afternoon in the Welsh capital.

  9. Baggies look to return to summitpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 21 September

West Brom v Plymouth (15:00 BST)

Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion today welcome a Plymouth side where high-profile manager Wayne Rooney is just getting going.

The former England and Manchester United captain oversaw his first league victory as Pilgrims boss last week.

And it was a stunner of a result, as they beat a Sunderland team that were top of the table at the time.

West Brom, who have just been replaced by Sunderland once again at the summit, are now the ones that have to dice a Pilgrims outfit that Rooney feels are steadily improving.

"I'm really pleased for the players and the fans, because the fans are seeing what we're trying to do, they're seeing little improvements to the team and obviously that always helps when you win games," Rooney said after the Sunderland win.

Victory for Carlos Corberan's Baggies will take them to the top of the table.

    FT: Sunderland 1-0 Middlesbrough

Sunderland climb above West Brom to return to the summit of the Championship.

  12. 'Absolutely outstanding'published at 14:34

    FT: Norwich 4-1 Watford

    Simon Lappin
Former Norwich midfielder on BBC Radio Norfolk

It's been the most complete performance in the last six games for Norwich.

They were absolutely tremendous, they made Watford look average and were absolutely outstanding.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 21 September

    Norwich 4-1 Watford

Johannes Hoff Thorup oversees his first Championship home win as Norwich boss, with second-half goals from Borja Sainz, Marcelino Nunez and Ben Chrisene delivering a much-deserved 4-1 victory.

For Watford, it's been a tough afternoon that leaves them winless in three matches.

  14. Postpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 21 September

    Norwich 4-1 Watford

That fourth Norwich goal has taken all the tension out of the finish at Carrow Road.

Every successful pass made by the Canaries in stoppage time so far has been met by shouts of 'ole'.

  15. 'Tactically Norwich have got it spot on'published at 14:28 British Summer Time 21 September

    Norwich 4-1 Watford

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

They work it well down the right side where they brought the fresh legs on they get an overload to expose Watford's back three.

Tactically Norwich have got it spot on with where to hurt Watford.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 21 September

    QPR 1-1 Millwall

Millwall were by far the most aggressive side with more than double the number shots but QPR hang on and the Lions' quest for an away win against their London rivals goes on.

There were no more goals in the second half but certainly some huge chances.

Perhaps the most disappointing for the visitors will be Romaine Esse's clever pass into the box going unnoticed by George Honeyman, who looked like he was rueing it for some time after.

Wouldn't be surprised if that one keeps the midfielder up at night.

  17. 'Joy for the Black Cats'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 21 September

    Sunderland 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Mark Drury
    BBC Tees commentator

Boro' had so much of the ball but they couldn't make it count.

Joy for the Black Cats, they defended really well, compact and disciplined.

  18. goal

GOAL: Norwich 4-1 Watfordpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 21 September

    Ben Chrisene (89 mins)

Ben Chrisene comes up with the cherry on the Norwich City cake.

He slides in to meet a low ball from Jack Stacey to score his first Canaries goal and first ever in senior football.

The close-range finish to make it four against a tired looking Hornets defence is no less than what the hosts deserve.

  19. CLOSE!published at 14:25 British Summer Time 21 September

    QPR 1-1 Millwall

The ball goes bouncing around the QPR box. It's all a bit scrappy but Mihailo Ivanovic attempts to regain control as he send it towards Femi Azeez.

He goes for goal but it doesn't connect with his foot quite right and it goes high.

Azeez has his head in his hands - if only he had it on his stronger boot...

  20. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 21 September

    Sunderland 1-0 Middlesbrough

The Black Cats go back to the top of the Championship!

Chris Rigg's wonderfully improvised first-half finish proves to be the difference in this Wear-Tees match-up.

Boro boss Michael Carrick will feel his side did at least enough to merit a share of the spoils but they could not make their possession tell at all and it was the home side who nearly got the game's second goal when Romaine Mundle battered a free-kick against the post.

Five wins from six league games for new Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris. Some start.
