The teams emerge to a sea of red and white across all four sides of the Stadium of Light.

A huge banner reads 'Our city built on industry where these colours run true'.

The Middlesbrough fans up in the gods behind the goal are struggling to make themselves heard.

Exactly how a derby should be!

    Sunderland v Middlesbrough (12:30 BST)

Sunderland make one change from the team that started the 3-2 defeat down at Plymouth last week, Chris Mepham makes his debut following his loan move from Bournemouth as he replaces Dan Ballard in defence. Ballard picked up a knock late on in the game in Devon but is fit enough to be named amongst the substitutes.

Middlesbrough also make one alteration from their last outing, a 1-1 draw at home to Preston last week, as Aidan Morris takes Dan Barlaser's spot in midfield.

    QPR v Millwall (12:30 BST)

There’s an injury blow for QPR as Jack Colback doesn't make the squad. The midfielder suffered a knock to his shoulder but it seems his recovery hasn't been as swift as boss Marti Cifuentes would have liked.

It's not all bad news though as Jake Clarke-Salter returns to the squad after missing out on the R's 1-1 draw to Sheffield Wednesday last week while Koki Saito also joins the starting line-up.

Just the one change for Millwall after striker Josh Coburn picked up a calf injury during last week’s 1-0 defeat to Luton, giving Macaulay Langstaff a chance to shine up front as he joins the starting XI.

Langstaff was denied a late equaliser at The Den and will be itching to make his shots count this time round.

Captain Jake Cooper has made it to the game and is fit to start while Mihailo Ivanovic joins the bench.

Both Norwich and Watford sides get a bit of a shake-up today.

Among the three changes for Norwich, following their loss at Swansea, Jose Cordoba comes in for his first Canaries start.

Oscar Schwartau, who earned his first start last time out for Norwich, will be playing if front of a home crowd for the first time.

For Watford, Daniel Jebbison makes his first start since making his loan move from Bournemouth.

There is no Edo Kayembe, who has a thigh issue and is being cautiously dealt with by boss Tom Cleverley.

  6. Not the real derby?published at 12:14 British Summer Time 21 September

    Sunderland v Middlesbrough (12:30 BST)

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris lit the touch paper for this match when he suggested that Middlesbrough was not their 'real derby'.

The Frenchman has not even used the 'd' word in his programme notes.

We all know that when the Black Cats take on Newcastle, it stirs up the passions like nothing else.

But in a place like the north east, local pride and bragging rights count for a lot.

Boro boss Michael Carrick doesn't come across as a ranter and raver in the dressing room, but surely he will have casually dropped in Le Bris' reference in his message to his players.

Speaking to people up here, it's clear that the Tyne-Wear derby is THE derby, but with the Magpies out of the way, surely today is the next best thing.

The EFL weekend got under way on Friday night with previously winless Hull City's visit to Stoke City, under the management of Narcis Pelach for the first time.

The home side led 1-0 at the break through Ben Wilmot's header to leave Tigers fans fearing a sixth league game without success.

However, the visitors turned the game around completely in a 16-minute spell in the second half.

First Kasey Palmer scored on the rebound after Viktor Johansson had saved his initial penalty and then Regan Slater lashed in before Wilmot deflected Palmer's tame effort into his own goal.

That result leaves just Portsmouth and bottom side Cardiff still looking for a first league win of the season.
