    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella speaking to TNT Sports:

"The good thing is we have two games left, it depends on us, it's in our hands. Maybe with 11 playes we can come back.

"We were still in it, we created chances until the end, we are proud. On Friday [against Manchester United] we have a final in our stadium. Every week things can change. If we win the two [remaining games] I think we will arrive to our objective [of qualifying for the Champions League]."

Forest are playing like they would rather get into the Europa Conference league and give it a real go at winning it rather than get the 3 points to lift them into champions league spot. Only saying.

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to TNT Sports: "I thought first half we were really, really good. I was very pleased. The sending off changed the game.

"With the score line as it was, it was a tricky second half for us us mentally because we wanted to go and attack. That was the message. But on the pitch I think it felt different, Chelsea tweaked things to make it difficult for us. But we hung in there and did well mentally in the second half."

On tactical battle with Maresca: "I probably enjoyed the first half more than the second. The second half was stressful, we were making changes. We started in the way we did and looked really comfortable until they tweaked things.

"With the scoreline, they had nothing to lose at that point. I was pleased with how we defended and Nick [Pope] made two excellent saves - you can't forget the part he played today.

"But we got over the line and that's the major thing in a game like today."

On why they started with a back five: "We always look at the opposition and what we think the best system will be. Of course, we lost Kieran [Trippier] and Joe Willock in the week then you're looking at the best balance of the team.

"We felt five in our back line would help us, went with that and it helped us first half and we still looked a threat the other way. Our attacking play was good, we just needed that second goal."

On the red card: "It was a big moment. For me, it was a red card but I haven't seen it again, I'm going with my initial reaction.

"I'm sure he hasn't meant to elbow the way he has but it doesn't look great."

On the fans: "The way we play has to fit the culture of the club and what the supporters want. The supporters here want fast, aggressive, attacking football. They want their team always wanting to score - that's perfect for me.

"I love to try and give them want they want. The atmosphere today was amazing, it was everything we hoped it would be."

  10. 'Too easy to take some decisions in some stadiums'published at 15:17 British Summer Time 11 May

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, speaking to TNT Sports: "Difficult. It's already difficult 11 v 11 in this stadium, against this team so playing an hour with 10 players is not easy.

"But second half the team showed a lot of spirit, togetherness and it's from there we need to keep the same feeling and energy for Friday's game."

On Nicolas Jackson's red card: "The only thing I can say is that sometimes it is too easy to take some decisions in some stadiums. But if the referee says it's a red, it's a red.

"Sometimes you get the feeling that some decisions are from the noise."

On rest of the season: "We were in a good run but my message was always the same to the players. The game is gone, think about the next one. Same now, we need to focus on Friday's game - that's the next one."

Champions League qualification to go to the last day? "It could be.

"We didn't win today, we are upset on one side, on the other proud of the team because the effort is top. We need to keep the same effort, the same feeling for Friday's game."

  11. 'Deserved win for Newcastle'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 11 May

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Peter Crouch
Former Tottenham striker on TNT Sports

It's a massive three points against your rivals for the Champions League.

You didn't know where the goals were going to come from for Chelsea and they had nobody up there after Nicolas Jackson's sending off.

It's a deserved result for Newcastle.

  12. 'Brilliant result for Newcastle'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 11 May

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker on TNT Sports

It's a brilliant result from the home side. It was the correct decision to send Nicolas Jackson off but I don't think the red card had a massive impact in the game.

Newcastle lost their way a little bit and Chelsea came into it in the second half but I don't think they did enough.

  13. 'That was an interesting second half'published at 15:15 British Summer Time 11 May

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"It was anxious in the second half, that was an interesting 45 minutes. We played really well in the first half, we were electric, but a mixture of things - the psychology of the game, the scoreline, 10 v 11 - it made it a difficult second half. I thought Chelsea did really well but we hung in there.

"The crowd were up for the game, the atmosphere was amazing.

"We're on the road to what we want to do this season, but there's still a lot of work to do and two tough fixtures to play.

"The size of the prize is huge, the players are aware of that. There was a worry when we won the trophy [League Cup] that there would be a negative consequence of that, but I think it actually gave us confidence."

  14. 'We showed great spirit and energy'published at 15:15 British Summer Time 11 May

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"In this stadium it's already difficult, but to come here and for one hour to play with 10 players is not easy. Second half the team showed effort, spirit, energy, unbelievable. We must keep this spirit and energy for Friday.

"We had three clear chances second half, Cucurella, Enzo [Fernandez] and Reece [James]. The important thing is to arrive there. Unfortunately we didn't score. My message in the last five or six games was the game is gone, move on.

    On Nicolas Jackson's red card:

"It's not only for today, for the next two games, for him the season is finished. If the refere decides it's red it's because they decide and they are convinced. It can be easy to make some decisions like this in this stadium with its noise."

  15. 'Goal is for my mum'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle United

Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Today is mother's day in Brazil so this goal is for for my mum and also my wife for being a great mother to my children.

"Big three points but nothing is done. Now we have to celebrate because this was a good one.

"We should play with a little more control but a win's a win."

On deflection for his goal: "Not that big a deflection!"
