  2. 'We showed a lot of desire' - Ismaelpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time

    FT: Luton 0-1 Blackburn

    Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn head coach Valerien Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire after picking up his first win as Rovers boss:

"Congrats for the boys. Until the red card it was the gameplan we expected.

"In the first half we wanted to be really strong as we knew we had to face the challenge with a team who are fighting to survive.

"They put a lot of balls in the box so you have to defend and show togetherness and we made it perfectly.

"In the transition we didn't play well. We wanted to get more in behind but the main focus was to stay strong. That was the first step and the second one was to get behind them and we made it perfectly with the goal we scored.

"After the red card it was another plan to survive and the boys made it perfectly. The boys showed a lot of desire and we were lucky for sure - but you need some luck and it doesn't change the performance."

  3. Hatters 'not clinical enough' bemoans Bloomfieldpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time

After watching the lowest scorers in the Championship fail to score in defeat to Blackburn, Luton manager Matt Bloomfield told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"We really felt we were building momentum and our performances have been good. But that wasn't good enough for the standards we have been setting and we are very disappointed.

"Blackburn have had a tough run of results but they have a very good group of players.

"We gave a goal away just after half-time which gave us a mountain to climb and we lacked that bit of composure at the top of the pitch.

"There were loads of final-third entries and we hit the bar twice but we have not been clinical enough to get the equaliser and then chase the winner.

"We believe in the group we have. We've had some tough moments and have always come out the other side and it's up to us to do it again."

  4. 'It's been a really solid week' - Manningpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time

    FT: QPR 1-1 Bristol City

    Bristol City

Bristol City boss Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol:

"You see the spirit when we win but also when we're up against it, when we went behind the spirit was there again and the fans stuck with us when we didn't start great. They kept driving the lads.

"We've given ourselves something to play for going into the final four (matches), and credit to the lads because they've done that.

"QPR make it difficult, they're so compact, but we put in a couple of crosses and half chances without anything else clear cut.

"It's the end of the season, there's going to be lots of twists and turns. It's about controlling what we can, turning up and taking confidence from remaining unbeaten.

"There were positive aspects and obviously bits we wish we'd done better, but it's been a really solid week I think."

  5. 'We are in a strong position' - Cifuentespublished at 18:15 British Summer Time

    FT: QPR 1-1 Bristol City

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes told BBC London:

"We played against a good team but it felt like the first 25 minutes were excellent, perhaps the best we have played this season here at home. It was a joy to see the energy of the players, attacking again and again.

"Overall the first half was very good, the second half they pushed and perhaps we should have been better to create counters and more chances.

"In the second half we struggled a bit more to beat the counter-press, but credit to our front three because they played at a really high level.

"I'm especially happy at the moment, I don't think we can say it (being safe from relegation) is done but it looks pretty good at the moment.

"I think it's very strong to be in the position we are after everything we went through. Credit to the players, the fans that stick with us. Now we have these four games left to push and keep getting points."

  6. 'We need to be more streetwise and clinical' - Cleverleypublished at 18:12 British Summer Time

    FT: West Brom 2-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford head coach Tom Cleverley told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It was a good game of football, a high quality game as I knew it would be. We probably had the more control but they had the more clinical moments and that's where we need to get to as a team.

"That is being a bit more streetwise, more clinical, and the extra quality that it takes.

"We have got some exciting young players who will hopefully develop into maybe how much quality they showed in front of goal."

  7. 'A lot of work still to do' - Neilpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time

    FT: Millwall 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Millwall

Millwall manager Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

“Middlesbrough were better than us in the first half, and I was really disappointed with our first half performance.

“Setbacks, not playing well in the first half and things that go against us in games don’t seem to deter us and stop any momentum. We try to find the next solution, which we did.

“I’ve done the play-offs three times and managed to be successful each time, which means I’ve got vast experience of getting into them. We’ve got a lot of work to do, still chasing teams above us, which is tough.

“We’ve got four games against really tough opponents but this week has given us an opportunity that otherwise we wouldn't have had.”

Derby boss John Eustace applauds the fansImage source, Rex Features

Derby County head coach John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

"It was an excellent all-round performance. We have come to a really difficult place and I don’t think many people expected us to get a result here.

"The effort, desire and commitment was there for everyone to see.

"Going into the last five or six minutes while 2-1 up I expect to see it out, but we were under a lot of pressure, they put a lot of good balls into the box, they filled the box. Overall we defended it very well, but it just wasn’t well enough today.

"But to come away with a point in the end is a positive result."

  9. 'It is a huge, huge three points' - Rowettpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time

FT: Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Oxford United

    Oxford United

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Oxford:

"There was lots of the performance I liked, we only had to hang on a little bit at the end.

"The game was reflective of our season, we seem to get a big win, then let ourselves down a bit and then step up and show a bit of character.

"I thought we grew into the game in the second half and that platform allowed us to get the goal, it didn’t feel comfortable on the side but we managed to get there.

"We had a little bit of fortune that they didn’t take one or two moments they had and we rode that part of the game and came back into it which I was really pleased about.

"This team is full of character and we just have to make the best of the tools we have, the players gave everything.

"Today we stepped up and it is a huge, huge three points."

  11. 'Most important is a full, fresh squad' - Le Brispublished at 17:49 British Summer Time

    FT: Sunderland 0-1 Swansea

    Sunderland

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris told BBC Radio Newcastle:

"It's a disappointing result first of all, as we expected to win, especially at home.

"We controlled the possession but it was really difficult to unbalance the opposition. We didn't find the right dynamic to find the flow and create chances.

"It was a little better during the second half with the subs who came in, but it wasn't an easy game.

"We are in a really good place but the most important thing is to manage the squad and have a full, fresh squad through the end of the season."

  12. 'Excellent for a third game in a week' - Sheehanpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time

    FT: Sunderland 0-1 Swansea

    Swansea City

Swansea City interim boss Alan Sheehan told BBC Sport Wales:

"We came out of the blocks really well and we knew we had to. A third game in a week, it's really difficult.

"I think we were excellent and should have been one or two up. They took a bit of control of possession more than creating big chances.

"Second half it was nip and tuck up to about 65 or 70 minutes and then we looked like we had to find a way to dig in and defend the box, and we did that really well, so a bit of everything."

  13. 'It's a setback but we're not done' - Carrickpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time

    FT: Millwall 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick told BBC Radio Tees:

"It’s a tough place to come and you could see that by the 20 minutes they had in the second half - that’s what they can do, make it difficult. They had that spell and made the most of it.

"We did well to defuse the atmosphere and their pressure in the first half, but didn't have enough around the box to create the chance that we should have. That was disappointing and they capitalised when they were on top and had a bit of momentum.

"We gave silly free kicks away, which we knew they wanted to put the ball in our box and we couldn’t get to grips with that for 20 minutes.

"We were really good in the first half but that’s not enough to win games. It gave us the platform to go and make the difference, and we just couldn’t find that.

“It’s a setback. It’s this time of year and results are important but we’re not done, by any stretch. There’s still a lot can happen."

    • Millwall have won nine of their past 15 league games under Alex Neil (D2 L4), no team have won more matches in the Championship in that time.
    • Swansea have won three consecutive league games for the first time since April 2024, also doing so without conceding a single goal.
    • Portsmouth’s Rob Atkinson became the first player to score a brace and an own goal in a single Championship game since Lewis Grabban, for Sunderland against Norwich in August 2017.
    • Oxford have won three of their past five league games (all 1-0, L2), one more victory than in their previous 13 Championship matches combined (2).
  15. 'The almost impossible is possible again'published at 17:33 British Summer Time

FT: Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Sheffield United

    Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth remained just about in touch with the sides above them following their stunning late win against the Blades.

"The message at half-time was we are in this game and we must believe we can turn this," boss Miron Muslic told BBC Radio Devon.

"It's important to start strong but more important to finish strong.

"I knew if we had to do something extraordinary Joe [Edwards] can help us. Joe's first action without touching the ball was to lift the crowd and that was massive. Joe did it today, like a skipper. Magnificent.

"I think Joe himself would have been frustrated at not starting but I think today's decision was the right one and he will start the next game.

"I went with [Muhamed] Tijani because for the last 30 [minutes] because I thought we could win the game. He flicked-on four or five, six headers then rewarded himself with a brilliant goal.

"After the Swansea defeat I predicted the unpredictability of Argyle. It drives me crazy and cost me lots of lost sleep at night. The almost impossible is possible again."

  16. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time

    FT: Plymouth 2-1 Sheff Utd

Chris Wilder's week might be about to get even worse.

There was a big bust up between the two sides in the tunnel at full-time, in which Wilder appeared to be involved.

The Blades have already had big disciplinary problems this season, and were recently fined £120,000 for a melee involving their players against Bristol City.

They might be digging into their purse once again...

Sheffield United's hopes of automatic promotion could well be over after a third straight loss.

"The biggest message was to go and be clinical," boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We did what we needed to do in getting the first goal. We dealt with the throw-ins and set pieces.

"The first goal goes in, and that quietens the home crowd. But to go and get the second goal would have killed the game.

"We never really showed the quality we should be showing at the top end of the pitch. We should have scored when Tyrese [Campbell] was through.

"We couldn't have had a worse week in terms of results. The players have to pick themselves up and that's what I was talking about in the huddle afterwards.

"We have not been good enough in the last three games. I don't think it's pressure or nerves. We are just not finding big enough moments. We need a big week now."

  18. 'We couldn't open them up' - Heckingbottompublished at 17:25 British Summer Time

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Preston

    Preston North End

Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom was pleased with how his side pushed leaders Leeds all the way.

"I'm really disappointed with the two goals we conceded, I thought they were poor on our part," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We were brave with how we passed the ball and tried to take the game to them, I was really pleased with that.

"We knew if we could keep one goal in it then we'd get opportunities but they defended their box well and we couldn't open them up.

"Overall I'm delighted with the effort and commitment of the players but Leeds had the better chances."

Leeds are back on top of the Championship and look almost certain for promotion following their win over Preston.

"It feels pretty good after an exhausting week with three difficult games. It was a priceless three points for us," boss Daniel Farke told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It was a really good performance and we could have made life easier by taking a few of our chances, it must have been one of our highest expected goals of the season. We should have scored six or seven.

"I didn't know the scoreline at Plymouth but you sense the reaction of the supporters. I wanted to make sure that we stayed focused and not thinking about what happened on other pitches.

"I like the balance because we played with fire in the heart but cool in the head."
