Tottenham have leaked goals left, right and centre this season.

In Germany, with their backs to the wall, it was a different story as Ange Postecoglou's side produced a gutsy, determined and defiant rearguard performance.

Eintracht Frankfurt had scored in every home game since 31 March 2024.

But they could find no way past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario who was well protected by the likes of Pedro Porro, skipper Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie in Germany.

Vicario faced five shots and made five saves, while Van de Ven and Romero made 20 clearances between them.

  2. 'For Tottenham...everything is on the Europa League'published at 10:28 British Summer Time 18 April

    Sebastien Bassong
Former Spurs defender on BBC 5 Live

On winning the Europa League: "I think for Tottenham, at this moment, everything is on the Europa League.

"For Ange Postecoglou, a lot of noise has been made regarding him being sacked but nonetheless they are still in the race and have a chance of silverware."

On saying he always wins a trophy in his second season: "It's a narrative that he is going to have to back.

"I think every manager has their own special thing, but now, as the season has gone as badly as Tottenham's, it's difficult to back that one up.

"Right now though, whether we like it or not, he's still in the race.

"So let's give him the benefit of the doubt and hopefully there will be some silverware coming back to Tottenham."

While we're on Tottenham though, let's finish up with the reaction of their big win last night.

    We do care, Spurs fans!

Gritty, brilliant play from Spurs in a hostile environment, but sadly overshadowed by the theatrics at Man United.

Man Utd 5-4 Lyon: Moments like this make it worth it

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says "moments like this make it worth it" as his team scored twice in the final minute of extra time to beat Lyon 5-4, completing a staggering comeback for a place in the Europa League semi-finals.

Man Utd , have conceded 4 goals to the worst team left in the competition, and scraped a win , calm down, OTT

    Derek, Norfolk

The comeback was incredible of course, But it doesn't mask the failing of letting a 2-0 lead slip and then being in that position in the first place, 99% of times they would now be out, A miracle rescue job doesn't cover how they lost that lead to an average side. Play like that again and they won't make the final, The comeback was only required as they bottled the lead in the first place. Spurs v Bilbao final is the likeliest outcome

    Mark, Cambridge

The final could well be between two teams currently sitting 14th and 15th in the premier league. That, more than anything, shows the huge gulf in class between the Europa league and the Champions league.

How many emotions do you have to go through?

Manchester United were down and out. Credit where credit is due with Ruben Amorim.

He puts Harry Maguire up front, against the run of play Lyon go 4-2 up and with the penalty you think that's it.

You could see Lyon crumbling, but credit to the way Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire took their goals. Amazing.

Everybody walks away in disbelief. Ruben Amorim couldn't get into the dressing room quickly enough.

The Stretford end was absolutely magical from Mainoo's goal to the final whistle, if you bothered to stay. If this doesn't teach people to stay until the end nothing will. The guy next to me left with his daughter before even seeing the Lyon penalty go in. It saddened me that his daughter could have witnessed Old Trafford like she'd probably never seen before.

Best Atmosphere at Old Trafford since Fergie Left. Loads of people left around me at 4-2 and I nearly joined them but so glad I didn't. Watched the highlights last night and twice again this morning to make sure it wasn't a dream. Massive respect for Harry Maguire. He's been written off so many times, never once moaned, complained or written cryptic messages on social media. Just got his head down and worked hard. Bring on Bilbao. GGMU.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Jesper Blomqvist started the 1999 Champions League final for Manchester United against Bayern Munich, but after being substituted in the second half he watched their late comeback from the touchlines.

He told 5 Live Breakfast that he was taken back to that moment when watching events at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

“You couldn’t really believe your eyes", he said. "It was such an amazing game to watch.

“When they fell two goals behind, I thought it was all over because they looked really tired and a bit depressed, but when they scored that 4-3 goal, it looked like they could come back again and when they made it 4-4 I really did believe. But wow, what a game."

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro was asked to sum up the comeback on TNT Sports: "Honestly, I don't understand what happened. It was crazy. The fans really helped us.

"A lot of things were going through our minds, it was difficult, but when we heard the fans at 4-2, we knew we could do it, and when we scored the penalty, I was sure.

"I want to say thank you to the fans - because of them we won the game."

Kobbie Mainoo talking to TNT Sports on the game: "It was an amazing comeback, but we put ourselves in that situation. When I came on, I was just trying to bring energy and contribute to the team who were doing so well."

Mainoo on scoring Manchester United's late equaliser in extra-time: "When the ball drops to you in there, a yard feels like a mile, so you just have to keep calm and slot it in. That's what I did."

I flew in from Montreal the day before, went with my brother and nephews for my first game at Old Trafford since Arsene got sent to the stands! What a night. Saw so many people leaving before Lacazette even took his pen! They just gave us an even better view of the goals as they went in at our end, so not complaining at all! Time to relax the rest of this trip, can’t take this kind of stress! Unforgettable night…

  14. Maguire - 'It was an amazing feeling'published at 09:45 British Summer Time 18 April

Man Utd 5-4 Lyon (agg 7-6)

    Manchester United

Manchester United match-winner Harry Maguire, speaking to TNT Sports: "Obviously it's an incredible game, we made really hard work of it. We had full control in the second half, had chances to score a third, then they scored out of nowhere. It put us on the back foot.

"To go down 4-2 in extra-time against 10 men is not good enough, we opened ourselves up too much. But we dug in and showed great spirit, that's what this stadium does."

On his goal: "I felt like the fourth goal for them was a sucker punch but that we'd get chances to get back into it. It fell to myself and thankfully I scored, it was an amazing feeling."

On if he fouled the defender: "He was back-pedalling but I just held him there, with my hand, there was nowhere near enough for a foul."

My daughter and I were at Old Trafford last night. What a night. Great first half, rubbish second half. But they are down to 10 men, surely we can’t lose, they then score two. That’s it - season over, how rubbish are we. The next seven minutes are a blur - we jumped, screamed, cheered, my watch flew off. No idea who even scored at the end we just couldn’t believe it. How had we actually done that? Football eh. Madness.

A special night at Old Trafford. I don't think I have ever seen a game like that.

Ruben Amorim coolly making his way off. They looked dead and buried. I have not seen that character from them all season.

Superlatives, you run out of them - wow, wow, wow for what we've just seen.

"Some people collect shirts, scarves, but I want to keep that sound, it's the best sound in the world.

"I feel for the people who had to leave at 4-2 because of the traffic, they will be gutted.

"We know we are underperforming and deserve all the critics, but we have time to make something special of this season."
