Chelmsford ease through win against Braintree to reach FA Cup second round
Chelmsford ran riot against Braintree to secure a thumping 4-1 win over their local rivals and book their place in the second round of the FA Cup.
The home side, who play in the National League South, opened the scoring after 20 minutes through Jason Adigun before Lyle Taylor's deflected low shot wrong-footed Braintree goalkeeper Jack Thompson.
National League side Braintree hauled themselves back into the contest when John Akinde scored from the penalty spot eight minutes prior to the interval only for debutant Jesurun Uchegbulam to restore Chelmsford's two-goal advantage just four minutes later when he converted Taylor's perfect pass.
Taylor then landed his second of the afternoon, and 12th of the season, shortly after the interval to put the game out of reach for Braintree.
