Well, what a rollercoaster ride that was.

Bob MacIntyre played the last five holes of the final round four under par to beat Adam Scott by one shot and claim his home Open.

The scenes on the 18th green will live with anyone that was here for a long, long time.

  2. 'I'll be trying to win The Open'published at 21:14 British Summer Time 14 July

And finally, on the celebrations that lie ahead before next week's Open Championship:

"I don't think I will [come down from this]. I'll just try and ride the wave.

"The Open means a lot but you have to celebrate the good times. This is the one I wanted and it'll be celebrated hard.

"Whatever time I tee off on Thursday, I'll be trying to win the Open Championship. There might be some alcohol still in the system."

  3. 'I thanked my parents'published at 21:11 British Summer Time 14 July

And what he said to his friends and family when he walked off 18 green:

"A couple of swear words out of shock. I just thanked them.

"All the boys were there, we had a laugh. But I thanked my mum and dad. It's incredible to be able to do this, them still being here and supporting me.

"My dad came down on Friday when I made the cut because he's a negative man.

"To have the support from my parents, friends, sisters, Shannon my girlfriend, the coaches and management is incredible."

  4. 'I've got fight and that's all I need'published at 21:05 British Summer Time 14 July

Some really candid stuff from MacIntyre on his upbringing and the journey he's taken to get to this point:

"I'm from a working class background. I've got two older sisters, my parents foster. We've got a foster boy just now who's been with us for six or seven years.

"I was given a great opportunity by my whole family. We used to have a horse for my sisters, couldn't afford to do both and my sisters gave up the horse to give me a chance to travel within Britain. I was out rain, hail or shine, grafting, practicing.

"I'm from the West coast. It's been different weather wise but your face doesn't fit because you're not a central-belt guy.

"I just had to graft and the biggest thing for me was never give up. A lot of people might say 'he doesn't have this or that'.

"I've got fight and that's all I need."

  5. 'Tear in my eye before I hit the putt'published at 21:02 British Summer Time 14 July

On arriving on 18 green, and the tournament-winning putt:

"Winning in Canada was emotional. My dad was on the bag, never thought it would happen. Normally I get shaky on the hands, it's natural and everyone gets it.

"The putter felt heavy, my hands were calm. When that putt went in, I had so much emotion I had to let out. This is the one I wanted.

"Now there's some more to go.

"I had a tear in my eye before I hit the putt. I was getting emotional before I read the putt. I still I had a job to do."

  6. 'The one kiss I needed'published at 20:57 British Summer Time 14 July

More from MacIntyre, on his free drop at 16:

"I'm shouting and swearing getting up to the ball because I knew it was my one chance to make birdie.

"I'm over the ball thinking I'm in trouble. Just as I took a step back, I took my practice swing a foot and a half from the ball, I heard the clunk of my spikes - the front three metal studs.

"I thought 'no way', I've got a sprinkler underneath my foot. I said to Mike, 'am I standing on that sprinkler?' He laughed and said 'yes you are'.

"You use the rules to your advantage. It was the one kiss [of luck] I needed."

  7. Postpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 14 July

The champ is asked about how his approach shot to 18 differed to last year, when he was faced with a 20mph wind into.

"Three wood last time; pitching wedge this time.

    "So it was slightly easier."

    Understated as ever.

  8. 'Can't believe it'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 14 July

    Here's Bob.

"It was the one I wanted, and it was the one I got," he said.

    "I can't believe it's happened."

  11. Open qualifiers confirmedpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 14 July

Amid all that madness, we also need to look at who qualified for The Open next week.

Aaron Rai (-14), Alex Noren (-13) and Richard Mansell (-13) all got out early and secured their places with magnificent rounds.

Rai went from 29th to joint fourth after a round of 63, while Noren's 65 put him joint 11th alongside Mansell - whose 61 was a joint course record.

All three were out nice and early today, and were maybe helped as the wind picked up later on. They won't care, they're off to Troon.

  12. 'This is what you do, Bob' - MacIntyre on self-pep talkpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 14 July

More reaction from an emotional Bob MacIntyre:

"I think I lost my voice after the scream on that hole. I thought I was short. Look, I've put a lot of work into this. I've changed a lot within the team and I've just worked hard. I wanted the Scottish Open. The crowd has been unbelievable.

"I just gave myself a chance. That was the job, give yourself a chance. I knew it was level pin-high because it was underneath the slope, and in my head I just kept saying to myself, 'this is what you do, Bob'.

"The support of the Scottish people, from 2017, 2018, 2019 - the support has been unbelievable. I was close last year but I had my chance here at the end and I just kept saying to myself, just take a chance and I took it. I can't believe it."

  13. 'It was meant to be' - MacIntyre on that droppublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 14 July

The winner also addresses the mild controversy about his drop on the 16th - "Look, I got a bit of luck on 16 - you need a bit of luck to win golf tournaments.

"I couldn't believe when I heard a spring under my foot where my spike is at and I'm like 'no way'. It was covered. I got lucky; it was meant to be."

The Scottish Open champion also revealed his plans for the next week:

"It's incredible. Next week is a new week but I tell you, I'm going to celebrate this with my family, friends, and everyone here. I'm going to celebrate this one hard.

"We'll pitch up to The Open when we pitch up to The Open."

  16. Scott magnanimous in defeatpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 14 July

Adam Scott admitted he was happy for Bob MacIntyre, despite being beaten on the final hole.

"I'm pleased for Bob," he said. "This is a big win. I played with him yesterday, and you can hear them singing over there. I think that's awesome for him and hopefully I can take some good form into next week."

The Australian didn't have any complaints, and was happy with how he played all week.

"There was a lot of good stuff for me this week. It's hard to complain about anything. It's the first time I've been in contention this year. I like where my game is headed in the last week or so, going into next week. I feel like I'm playing at a high level.

"It was an interesting day. Sitting around all morning, I thought I was going to have to shoot 8-under to have a chance and then it got quite tricky out there. I played mostly really good golf."

"A shame to come up short but Bob did what he had to do to win. Eagle, par, birdie, that's great stuff."
