  1. Birdie for Bobpublished at 21:31 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +2 (17)

We said if Robert MacIntyre played the last two holes in level par, he'd be happy with that. Well how's about a birdie to kick things off?!

A great drive reaches the green on the par-four 17th and he two-putts from there for a three.

The 18th is a brute, though, it's been one of the toughest holes on the golf course this week.

  2. Spaun drops backpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 14 June

    Burns -2, Spaun -2 (3)

A bogey for JJ Spaun drags him back to two under alongside Sam Burns, who was unable to make the most of that birdie opportunity.

  3. Postpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 14 June

    Koepka +4, Kim Si-woo +4 (7)

Aggressive putt from Brooks Koepka who fancies himself a birdie at the seventh after a terrific approach into the green.

He's given it some wellie but it clips the side of the cup and carries on.

    Four pars in a row.

  4. Scheffler struggling on the greenspublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 14 June

    Scheffler +4 (14)

Wonderful approach to 14 from Scottie Scheffler, but he's having a really bad putting day today and his birdie effort never stands a chance of finding the cup.

This has happened before to Scheffler, despite being world number one his putter has often been pretty woeful - he'd likely have another couple of majors if he'd been merely average on the greens.

  5. Birdie for Griffinpublished at 21:25 British Summer Time 14 June

    Perez +3, B Griffin E (4)

Ben Griffin sinks another lengthy putt, this time for birdie, to get back to level par for the tournament.

He's making his US Open debut this week, a month after finishing in a tie for eighth in the US PGA at Quail Hollow.

  6. Another bogey for Hovlandpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hovland +1, Scott +1 (3)

Two bogeys in three holes for Viktor Hovland, who smoked his drive down the third fairway but then hit his approach off the back and was short sided.

He got it out to 10 feet, but unlike Adam Scott on the last hole he couldn;t find the hole with his par putt. Work to do Viktor.

  7. Par for MacIntyrepublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +3 (16)

Another hole chalked off for Robert MacIntyre, who is one under for his round at the moment.

If he can play the final two holes in level par, he'll be right in the mix by the end of the day.

  8. Postpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 14 June

    Burns -2, Spaun -3 (2)

Sam Burns is playing the third hole but his tee shot is so far left that it lands on the fourth fairway, evading the fabled Church Pews bunker.

If it was intentional, it's turned into a 200 IQ play - his approach ends up about 15 feet from the flag.

JJ Spaun, meanwhile, has found trouble and will have a long putt for par in a couple of moments.

  9. Bogey for Bradleypublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 14 June

    Bradley +4 (10)

Keegan Bradley starts his back nine with his first bogey of the day - after recording nine straight pars on his front nine.

The USA Ryder Cup captain is T15 on four over so still well in this tournament, where another big finish will further his claims to make his own team at Bethpage later this year!

  10. Scottie up and downpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 14 June

    Scheffler +4 (13)

It's a topsy-turvy round for Scottie Scheffler today, who managed to birdie the 12th to get back to level par for the day and four over for the tournament.

It's been unusually scrappy from the world number one, who is the model of consistency on the PGA Tour, but is just struggling to deal with Oakmont's challenges.

  11. Postpublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 14 June

    Koepka +4, SW Kim +4 (6)

An outstanding effort from 50 feet for birdie at the sixth from Brooks Koepka.

It gives him a tap-in par. Feels like he's stabilising.

A birdie for Kim Si-woo injects a bit of life into this pairing.

  12. Birdies at fourpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 14 June

    Henley +1, Lawrence E (4)

Thriston Lawrence lands a nice birdie putt on the fourth despite visiting the Church Pews bunker off the tee, as he plays a lovely recovery and then gets down to withinin 12 feet with his third.

Nice hole to birdie that, and gets Lawrence back to level par.

Russell Henley matches the birdie after hitting a nice drive to find the fairway and he improves to one over.

  13. 'I was thinking do I want two more days here' - McIlroy on making the cutpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy +10 (74)

It's fair to say Rory McIlroy is not in the best of moods with the golfing media, in general, but he has stopped to say a few words after his round today.

He talks of his "frustration", part of which has stemmed from the leak of the non-conforming driver news at last month's US PGA and adds he feels he's "earned the right to do whatever I want" when it comes to speaking to the media.

When asked for his assessment of his US Open so far, he replied: "Pretty average."

On playing the last 15 holes of round two in two under par to make the halfway cut, he said: "It's much easier being on the cut line when you don't really care if you're here for the weekend or not. (Laughing.) I was sort of thinking, do I really want two more days here or not. So it makes it easier to play better when you're in that mindset."

And on his hopes for the final round... "Hopefully a round in under four and a half hours and get out of here."

    It's absolutely hosing down now.

Like a Bank Holiday Monday in the UK.

Makes me feel like we're watching last year's Open at Royal Troon.

  15. Bogey for MacIntyrepublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +3 (15)

    Robert MacIntyreImage source, Getty Images

Robert MacIntyre is definitely not happy after three-putting from distance on the 15th green.

There's a rude word or two and a gesture towards his ball as his 10-footer for par slides by the hole.

    Back to three over.

  16. Spaun in outright leadpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 14 June

    Burns -2, Spaun -3 (2)

Sam Burns pays the price for that visit to the sand off the tee, making five on the par-four second.

Fellow American JJ Spaun makes his par putt from five feet and now leads the US Open on his own.

  17. Postpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 14 June

    Koepka +4, SW Kim +5 (5)

    Fairway. Green. Two putts.

Par for Brooks Koepka at the fifth.

Another bogey for Kim Si-woo sends him further off the pace.

  18. Par settler for Hovlandpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 14 June

    Hovland E, Scott +1 (2)

Viktor Hovland has a chance to get his dropped shot right back on the second as he has a birdie putt from 10 feet, but he can't roll this one in and he stays at level par.

That's a nice way to settle down though after that eventful opening hole.

Adam Scott also gets a par but has to work a lot harder after finding the rough around the green and short siding himself, but his chip out was excellent.

  19. Postpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 14 June

    Perez +3, B Griffin +1 (3)

A very good putt to save par by Ben Griffin keeps him at one over, but Victor Perez registers a second bogey in three holes and he drops further back.

  20. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 14 June

    Burns -3, Spaun -3 (1)

Earlier, we asked whether you thought one of the final group would be in the lead at the end of today's play.

Here are the numbers from a short time ago...

    Thumbs response

Spaun finds the fairway on the second, while Burns goes with driver and plonks himself in an awful spot in a bunker.
