    Koepka +3, SW Kim +2 (2)

These greens do seem a touch slower today as Brooks Koepka discovers when his birdie putt holds up on the second green.

He'll have to be satisfied with par alongside playing partner Kim Si-woo who also makes a four.

    MacIntyre +2 (11)

Ohhh, magnificent from Robert MacIntyre on the par-five 12th.

More than 300 yards from the pin, he launches his second shot to the front of the green. Yes, it trundles on past the flag and probably 30 feet past the hole, but there's every chance he'll be adding another birdie to his scorecard imminently.

  3. Greenkeeping updatepublished at 20:12 British Summer Time 14 June

    News from the USGA...

Putting green speeds ranged from the mid to upper 14s on the Stimpmeter and will settle to low 14s as the day goes on. We triple cut all greens this morning and a fourth cut was performed on any green that was unable to be cut last night due to the suspension of play. All greens will have been triple rolled prior to the start of round three in an effort to maintain targeted speeds.

Due to the rain and soft conditions, tees and fairways were not mowed prior to round three.

Total rainfall yesterday and overnight was one inch.

    Today’s yardage:

    • Front 9 - 3,737
    • Back 9 - 3,594
    • Total - 7,331

Rough was topped off last night and this morning at 5.25 inches.

Perez makes ace in US Open round two

A level-par second-round score of 70 doesn't quite tell the full story of the Friday that Victor Perez had at Oakmont.

He made a hole-in-one on the sixth (watch that magic moment above), but he also carded a triple-bogey eight on the 12th.

The Frenchman is about to get his third round under way alongside Ben Griffin, one of the form players on the PGA Tour in recent weeks.

  5. Birdie for Detrypublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 14 June

    Detry +1 (2)

Tidy work from Thomas Detry at the second, downing a 12-foot birdie putt to inch closer to the leaders.

    Confident start for the Belgian.

  6. Starting bogey for Koepkapublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 14 June

    Koepka +3, SW Kim +2 (1)

Anyone predicting Brooks Koepka to make an early statement can count themselves correct...

But maybe not how he intended.

His putting woes from day two continue as he takes three on the first green and immediately drops a shot.

  8. Dark horse Henley in contentionpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 14 June

    Henley +2, Lawrence +1 (20:02 BST)

Russell Henley was a popular dark horse this week (if there is such a thing?) as he's been trending towards a big performance.

He arrived with the seventh best US Open scoring average (70.5) over the past five years and has had some decent finishes of 7-14-MC-13 over his past four appearances in his national open.

And he's not far off here either, but a shot behind playing partner Thriston Lawrence, who missed the cut in his US Open debut last year but seems to have found the key to the event already.

  9. Scheffler's putting woespublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 14 June

    Scheffler +4 (8)

He three-putted for an opening bogey on the first, but Scottie Scheffler then responded with two birdies to get under par for the round.

However, he's just missed a tiddler on the eighth for another bogey as his hard work is again undone by his putter.

Scheffler has now missed putts from four and three feet today...

    Hatton +3 (3), Rahm +4 (6)

    Jon RahmImage source, Getty Images

LIV Tour duo and European Ryder Cup team-mates Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm are on the fringes of things at the moment - put together a solid round today and they may well be in one of the later groups on Sunday.

Hatton has started with three straight pars, while Spaniard Rahm is level par through six.

  11. McIlroy ends with a bogeypublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy +10 (74), Schauffele +7 (71)

Par at 18 secures a best round of the week for Xander Schauffele, a one-over 71, but he is unlikely to feature too much in our coverage tomorrow.

Playing partner Rory McIlroy will be going out even earlier, he's finished with a bogey to reach double digits over par.

  12. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +2 (11)

Bob MacIntyre leaves himself a long birdie putt on 11 but he negotiates it very well, before knocking in a five-footer for par.

Still no bogeys on the Scot's card today.

  13. Postpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 14 June

    Detry +2 (1)

I gave the big entertainer Thomas Detry a huge send-up earlier (see post at 19:34 BST).

So obviously he's kicked off with a drama-free par.

  14. Postpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 14 June

    McIlroy +9, Schauffele +7 (17)

Rory McIlroy is chunking his way down the 18th after burying his tee shot in some gnarly native stuff down the right hand side.

He's forced to clip out and will have to get up and down from about 50 yards to close round three with a par.

    Brooks KoepkaImage source, Getty Images

Before we get too excited about Brooks Koepka's return, he's not excelled in any metric over the first two days.

Indeed, he was much better on Thursday when he shot two under par. A six-shot swing in his performance in round two was due mainly to an ice-cold putter and a ragged display off the tee.

You just can't afford those weaknesses at the US Open.

Which Koepka will turn up today?

  17. The return of Koepka?published at 19:44 British Summer Time 14 June

    Koepka +2, SW Kim +2 (19:51 BST)

Brooks Koepka graphic showing patchy major record

The top of the leaderboard is remiss of the game's biggest champions, bar one.

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka remains an enigma but has the most pedigree among those in the mix here at Oakmont.

His record at majors since a 2021 decorated with three top-six finishes isn't pretty (bar two notable exceptions in 2023).

If he keeps his form up today though, certainly worth keeping an eye on.

  18. The key to victory at Oakmontpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 14 June

US Open at OakmontImage source, Getty Images

Hit the green! The last three US Open winners are Oakmont finished first, third and first in greens in regulation during the tournament - with that being the one common stat between Dustin Johnson, Angel Cabrera and Ernie Els.

And among the players leading the greens in regulation stats after two rounds are all these leading contenders:

    • Adam Scott
    • Victor Perez
    • Victor Hovland
    • Thomas Detry
    • JJ Spaun
    • Sam Burns

So it again looks like a huge factor at Oakmont.

    Schauffele +7 (17)

    Xander SchauffeleImage source, Getty Images

No player in the field shows more consistency at US Opens than Xander Schauffele.

The 2024 US PGA and Open champion has never finished below 15th in eight appearances.

He has generally played a tidy round today alongside McIlroy but two late bogeys have left him one over for the day and stranded at seven over par.

He'll need a riproaring Sunday - or the field to come back to him - if he's to keep his proud record going.

  20. MacIntyre starts wellpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 14 June

    MacIntyre +2 (10)

    Robert MacIntyreImage source, Getty Images

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre is one of the earlier starters to have made upward progress on day three.

Birdies on the second and sixth helped the left-hander go out in 33 and he's just missed a tricky eight-footer for another birdie on the par-four 10th.

Bob's into the top 10 as it stands on two over par, five shots off the lead.
