A brilliant approach to the third green leaves Nelly Korda a chance from close range for a first birdie of the day.

But that's a chance that slips by.

There were a couple of those yesterday, too, for the world number one.

  2. Yamashita remains at six underpublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 1 August

    Yamashita -6, Takeda -5, Tavatanakit E (8)

It's pars all round for Japanese pair Miyu Yamashita and Rio Takeda plus Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit at the eighth as the trio get through the hole in the requisite three shots.

Yamashita has made six back-to-back pars now.

If the halfway cut was to happen right now, those on level par and better would make it. It probably won't move too far either side of that, to be honest.

Lilia Vu, the 2023 champion, needs to turn things around - and quickly - if she's going to make the weekend.

I’m on the fourth, the last of these early holes that cling to the coastline and the breeze has picked up a touch.

Lottie Woad has a long uphill putt for birdie, can she kick on and take advantage of the conditions? Sadly not.

Another par for Woad and defending champion Lydia Ko.

Meanwhile, it’s a third bogey in four holes for the 2023 champion Lilia Vu, who slips to five over.

  5. Woad settles for parpublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 1 August

    Woad E, Ko +1, Vu +5 (4)

Lottie Woad with a cautious iron shot to the fourth hole and a lengthy putt means a birdie remains just out of reach. She taps in from about 18 inches to pick up par.

Lydia Ko also taps in for par but Lilia Vu is struggling this morning and makes another bogey.

    Back-to-back birdies for Darcey Harry!

Harry finds the rough with her tee shot and second shot on the par-five six, but still manages to pick up a shot thanks to a good approach and a lengthy putt.

    She moves to three under.

Georgia Hall saves par to remain one under.

  7. Takeda bounces backpublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 1 August

    Yamashita -6, Takeda -5, Tavatanakit E (7)

Another efficient par from Miyu Yamashita at the seventh hole while Japanese compatriot Rio Takeda bounces back from that bogey at the sixth with a birdie to move within a shot of the leader.

  8. Par-par start for Kordapublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 1 August

A steady start for Nelly Korda, who has made her par fours on the first two holes.

The world number one lagged a long birdie putt about five feet short on the second, but confidently knocked in the par putt to stay two under for the tournament.

  9. Another par for Woadpublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 1 August

    Woad E, Ko +1, Vu +4 (3)

Nice pace and control from Lottie Woad but she just misses a lengthy birdie putt at the third and she duly taps in for bar.

Par for Lydia Ko as well but Lilia Vu notches up her second bogey of the day and goes four over.

Many were expecting Lottie Woad to lead the British charge for success at Royal Porthcawl this week, but it was another young English hope - 23-year-old Mimi Rhodes - who ended round one as the leading British player.

Her three-under-par round of 69 put her two shots off the lead.

"I had to really concentrate on the tee shots and pick smaller targets and just not get ahead of myself," said Rhodes, who has won three times on the LET in 2025.

"I was just trying to stay in the moment, soak it all in and have loads of fun."

Lottie Woad’s approach to the par-four third hole flirts with the bunker that she ended up in yesterday but manages to stay on the green.

She made bogey here in her first round but has about 40 feet for birdie today.

  12. Takeda bogeys the sixthpublished at 08:57 British Summer Time 1 August

    Yamashita -6, Takeda -4, Tavatanakit E (6)

Miyu Yamashita makes par at the sixth to maintain her place at the top of the leaderboard at six under. After opening up her round with a couple of birdies it's been four consecutive pars from the Japanese player.

Compatriot Rio Takeda picks up her first bogey of the day on the hole, though, and drops to four under. It's been a bit of an untidy round from Takeda so far.

Benign is the word for the conditions right now at Royal Porthcawl.

With barely a breath of wind, this is the time to score.

I have just caught up with local hero Darcey Harry on the short fifth - and watched her hole a birdie putt after a fine tee shot.

That takes her back to two under after a bogey on the third.

America’s Jennifer Kupcho also makes birdie after a fabulous tee shot, while Georgia Hall settles for par.

  14. Kim, Duncan and Furue make early movespublished at 08:53 British Summer Time 1 August

Former US Women's Open winner A Lim Kim has moved to within one shot of leader Miyu Yamashita, thanks to three birdies in the first five holes. She's now five under par for the tournament.

Meanwhile, American Lindy Duncan is a shot further back. She posted a double-bogey six on the opening hole, but has recovered with four birdies on the rest of her front nine.

Duncan is joined at four under by Japan's Ayaka Furue, who has made birdies at the first and third holes today.

A good pro par from Lottie Woad. I think Lydia Ko, however, will be frustrated to only come away with par from the second after such a good approach shot.

  16. Woad makes parpublished at 08:43 British Summer Time 1 August

The birdie putt from Lottie Woad is about four feet short.

It’s a little tester for par but Woad passes with flying colours to applause from the ever growing gallery.

Lottie Woad with a 40-foot putt for birdie at the second, but she cannot generate quite the pace needed and comes up a touch short. She's left herself with a slightly tricky one for par.

Lottie Woad’s drive on the second finds the right hand side of the fairway.

Her approach is a touch long with the pin towards the front of the green.

She has a long putt on an undulating green.

  19. Korda under waypublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 1 August

    Jutanugarn E, Korda -2, Yin -1

Nelly Korda hits her opening tee shot of the second round and she starts four shots off the lead.

The world number one didn't have the most amazing day with the putter on Thursday.

If she can get that right today, and with weather conditions playing ball this morning, there could be a good score out there for the American.

  20. Postpublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 1 August

    Yamashita -6, Takeda -5 (5)

Leader Miyu Yamashita has made pars at holes three, four and five after that storming start and the Japanese player remains one shot in front.

In the same three-ball, it's five straight pars this morning for Rio Takeda, the co-leader overnight.
