    Knapp -10, Penge -9, M Fitzpatrick -9 (2)

Real pressure on Marco Penge to make his six foot par putt, but he sinks it. He did well to regain composure after that woeful second shot.

Matt Fitzpatrick has a shorter par effort, but he's missed a few short ones this week. No mishaps this time.

Jake Knapp does the same. No bother for the penultimate group.

  2. Postpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 13 July

    Schauffele -7 (6)

Xander Schauffele is a previous winner here at The Renaissance Club and he moves to seven under with a birdie at the par-three sixth.

  3. Postpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 13 July

    Aberg -7 (3)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at the Renaissance Club

The pin on three is tucked away on a flat sliver at the back with a bunker lurking right and a slope on the left.

Ludivg Aberg is the latest title hopeful who can only make par here.

  4. Postpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 13 July

    Penge -9, Knapp -10 (1)

Marco Penge drives the second 369 yards.

He's been doing that all week. An unbelievable ball striker, with so much power. Just melts it.

Unfortunately, he really fats his approach and it's miles back from the green. All wrong.

Jake Knapp goes way right from the tee box, and his approach rolls backwards off the front of the green. Suddenly a bit trickier.

  6. McIlroy into solo leadpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -11, Gotterup -10, Clark -9 (1)

Chris Gotterup finds the bunker down the right-hand side of one and has to wedge it out into the fairway. The American can't get up and down for par and drops back to 10 under.

No such trouble for Rory McIlroy, who safely two-putts for his par and now stands alone at the top.

  7. Postpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 13 July

    Scheffler -6 (3)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at the Renaissance Club

    Not to be.

Scottie Scheffler can't take advantage of the par-five third.

His second shot into thick rough short left of the green was his undoing.

  8. Knapp birdies firstpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 13 July

    Knapp -10, Penge -1, Fitzpatrick -1 (1)

A chance for Jake Knapp on the first to get within one of the leaders with a 12 foot putt.

It's measured to perfection, dropping in.

Marco Penge had a great look from three feet, but misjudged it badly. Par will have to do.

  9. And he's off...published at 13:48 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -11

An enormous cheer for Rory McIlroy as he is introduced on the tee box as the Masters champion.

It's a wonderful opening tee shot, 346 yards and dead centre of the fairway.

    A fine start.

Tree trouble off the tee for Kristoffer Reitan at the third.

No such problems for Scottie Scheffler, who is bang centre of the fairway.

Can the world number one bounce back from that bogey?

  12. Early scoring heats up on final daypublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 13 July

Friday afternoon proved tricky for scoring, as did yesterday at times, with wind gusting in off the coast.

Not the case today. Plenty have flown out the traps, but can they build on it to heap pressure on the leaders?

Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup get under way in one minute.

  13. Bogey for Schefflerpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 13 July

    Scheffler -6 (2)

Scottie Scheffler immediately gives back the shot he gained

After driving into a bunker he has a chance to save par from inside five feet but can't take it. Frustration for the American.

  14. Postpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 13 July

    M Fitzpatrick -9, Knapp -9, Penge -9

The penultimate group of the day have just teed off at the first.

Matt Fitzpatrick is down the right-hand side, Jake Knapp is in the middle of the fairway and Marco Penge - the longest driver this week - also finds the short grass.

  15. Postpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 13 July

    Straka -8 (1)

Sepp Straka makes a brilliant start. He birdies the first, like many have already today, with a putt from nine feet.

    He's getting back amongst it.

  16. Postpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 13 July

    Hovland -6 (2)

    Brilliant birdie for Viktor Hovland.

He overshoots the second green but shows a delicate touch to hole the chip.

  17. Head to head between leaderspublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 13 July

    McIlroy -11, Gotterup -11 (13:40)

A little look at this weeks' 'strokes gained' stats between the two leaders, Chris Gotterup and Rory McIlroy. David and Goliath.

Off the tee, Gotterup is ranked third in the field through the 54 holes so far. McIlroy is down at 63.

Around the green and in putting, Gotterup ranks seventh for both.

McIlroy edges both of those, sixth and fourth best respectively.

  18. Early moverspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 13 July

We mentioned that Canada's Nick Taylor had started well and he picks up another birdie at the fifth to get to seven under.

England's Harry Hall, meanwhile, has birdied the first three holes in succession.

    He is at eight under.

  19. Postpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 13 July

    Scheffler -7 (1)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at the Renaissance Club

Sign of intent from Scottie Scheffler?

After a poor day yesterday by his lofty standards, the world number one begins day three with a birdie.

His approach was a thing of beauty, utilising the slope to the left of the green to roll in tight to the back pin.
