    Perfect drive on eight, measured chip, and an accomplished two-putt add up to another par. The young American isn’t going away.

    With a cavernous bunker protecting the front-left pin, it's no surprise the par-three 17th is playing as the second toughest hole round this track.

    Wyndham Clark plays it safe with his tee shot and comfortably posts par.

    Scottie Scheffler gets up and down nicely from a tricky spot to also avoid a slip-up.

    Can either of this pair eke out one more birdie?

    Rory McIlroy hooks his approach shot at the 11th, but gets a fortuitous bounce and will have a good look at birdie...

    A decent effort, but it stays high and McIlroy will have to make do with par.

    Rory McIlroy displays his power game in full at the 10th, finding the fairway off the tee and then smashing a fairway wood onto the green from 270 yards out.

    He throws his head back in frustration as the eagle putt stays out, but it's an easy birdie to take him to nine under.

    And Ludvig Aberg does indeed bounce back.

    A nerveless putt is always in the heart of the hole. Some momentum for the Swede as he makes the turn.

    Chris Gotterup fizzed his blind approach right of the green, then chipped on to eight feet or so. And he makes the putt to stay two clear.

    The American is showing no sign of getting frazzled in the East Lothian sun.
