  1. Hot start for Langasquepublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 12 July

    Langasque -5 (6)

The one player to jump into the top 25 on the leaderboard this morning is Frenchman Romain Langasque.

Birdies at one, five and six move him to five under par.

Not the start Tommy Fleetwood was hoping for.

The popular Englishman bogeys the first after failing to get up and down from a greenside bunker.

Harris English opens with a par.

  3. Bounce back Bobpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 12 July

    MacIntyre +1 (17)

Quite the colourful scorecard from Bob MacIntyre today.

Back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th bring him back to just one over for the week.

Just the five birdies, three bogeys, and two double bogeys for Bob with a hole left to play.

  4. Trio of Englishmen well placedpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 12 July

There's plenty of English interest among the later tee times today.

Bunnet-wearing Harry Hall is currently solo second at nine under, just two shots off the leader Chris Gotterup.

A shot back from him are Matt Fitzpatrick and Marco Penge. Swede Ludvig Aberg is also level with them in third.

While Fitzpatrick is a pretty well-known quantity to many fans, Hall and Penge may not be.

Hall's only PGA Tour win actually came a year ago this weekend at the alternate-field event in Kentucky. A win 365 days later on Scottish soil would mark a breakout year for the man from Cornwall.

The Hainan Classic in April of this year is Penge's only triumph on the DP World Tour, but he's enjoying himself on the links this week. Keep an eye out for his driving off the tee, it is, quite simply, sensational.

Fitzpatrick, of course, is a European Ryder Cup stalwart now and the 2022 US Open champ.

    Hovland -3, Rose -3 (3)

European Ryder Cup pals Viktor Hovland and Justin Rose are out together.

Hovland has just pushed an eagle putt past the right edge and tapped in for birdie, while Rose also carded a birdie.

Another fun group to watch if you're arriving at the course and looking to stretch your legs early on.

  6. US Open champ out; McIlroy going wellpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 12 July

US Open winner JJ Spaun missed the cut yesterday after a 72 left the American two over and Collin Morikawa tumbled out on four over following a horror 76.

Rory McIlroy, who benefitted from the benign early conditions, made a charge with a 65 to reach seven under.

"The conditions were so good for us," said McIlroy after round two. "It felt like if you didn't play that first nine in three or four under, you were losing strokes to the field.

"I did a lot of good things today, a couple of loose shots here and there but overall it was a good day. I'm excited for the weekend, right in contention."

  9. Sunny Scotland... again?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 12 July

Yesterday's afternoon wave probably looked on with envy when they saw the morning scores compared to theirs.

The relatively calm conditions that lasted until 13:00(ish) allowed an early flurry of low scores, never mind Chris Gotterup's course-record equalling round.

The BBC weather service reckons that "Today will be another hot and humid day with lots of sunshine and light winds. The Northern Isles and eastern coastal parts of the mainland will see areas of low cloud and haar."

Low scoring should be possible again, but be warned, the flags are furiously fluttering in the lunchtime breeze at present..

  10. MacIntyre struggling early onpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 12 July

Well, for the punters that ventured in early doors, they were treated to a big-name pairing for the first tee time.

Bob MacIntyre and Justin Thomas were out first, but neither player is faring well.

MacIntyre is four over for the day, taking him to three over for the tournament, meaning a title defence is rather implausible for Bob now, sadly.

A pair of double bogeys this morning, coming on the par-four seventh and par-three ninth, put paid to any sort of comeback he may have been hoping for

Thomas is two over today, one over for the week.

  11. What happened yesterday?published at 12:09 British Summer Time 12 July

Bob MacIntyre scraped into the weekend at the Scottish Open to narrowly avoid an early end to his title defence.

The Oban left-hander feared it was "curtains" for his hopes after a lost ball led to double bogey on 13 and left him two shots outside the cut line.

But he conjured birdies on the remaining par threes - the 14th and 17th, where he almost holed his tee shot - to post a one-over 71 and finish one under.

That allowed the home favourite to survive by the skin of his teeth at the Renaissance Club, where American Chris Gotterup holds a two-stroke lead at 11 under after equalling the course record with a blistering 61.
