  1. Fitz and Ferg going backwardspublished at 13:24 BST

    Fitzpatrick -12, Ferguson -12 (9)

Here's Matt Fitzpatrick studying a five-footer for par. He could do with knocking this in to round off an excellent front nine. Oof. A slightly tugged putt. And that's a bogey. A first dropped shot of the round and he wanders off chuntering to himself.

Ewen Ferguson also misses his par putt.

  2. Rose closes difficult weekendpublished at 13:20 BST

    Rose -6 (73)

We've just seen Justin Rose closing out at the 18th.

The wily veteran has had a very tough weekend having been one off the lead after two rounds.

    He's finished with a one-over 73, 10 shots back as things stand.

  3. Reed two off the leadpublished at 13:19 BST

    Fitzpatrick -13, Ferguson -13, Reed -14 (8)

We've not seen much of Ewen Ferguson recently but here's the Scot on the par-four ninth. He's come up short of the green and is looking at a low chip-and-run through a swale. Decent effort but he's left himself with an eight-footer for par.

Matt Fitzpatrick is also chipping onto the ninth green and his effort is half that distance away.

Meanwhile, Patrick Reed is staring down a 20-footer from the edge of the green and the American drains it. Four birdies and 31 strokes for his first nine holes.

  4. Win it on the back ninepublished at 13:18 BST

Graph showing nine holes, only two of which are playing above par

It's a good day to be playing the back nine so far.

Only one hole is scoring above par - the 15th - and there are oodles of opportunities to make a move.

That's where our leaders are heading.

  5. Missed birdies all roundpublished at 13:15 BST

    Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -14 (8)

Adrien Saddier is up first. about 20 feet, slight left-to-right, and he's tentative again.

Alex Noren from a fraction closer, different angle, down the hill and his ball pulls up two rotations short of dropping.

Has Tyrrell Hatton learned anything? He's got about 15 feet, also left-to-right. Ooooh... he doesn't like that. Tyrrell is up and walking after his ball almost as soon as he hits it. He jabs in the par putt from a couple of feet and then flicks his ball into the pond. Not a happy bunny.

  6. Couvra up to thirdpublished at 13:14 BST

    Couvra -14 (14)

I mentioned Martin Couvra a while back and the French rookie has found another birdie to move to -6 for today and within two shots of Alex Noren.

The world 136 has seven birdies on his card today - three in a row!

  7. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 13:12 BST

    Rahm -13 (17)

The 17th is Jon Rahm's penultimate opportunity to put his foot down and he's chipping from the rough for eagle.

Fine attempt from the Spaniard as he rolls it close.

A birdie and back to -13.

Can he find an eagle at the last to set a target?

  8. Postpublished at 13:11 BST

    Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -14 (7)

The eighth at Wentworth is the stuff of nightmares for us amateurs, with a huge pond defending the green.

Of course, it's no bother for the pros and Noren, Hatton and Saddier all flick wedges over the wet stuff to set up birdie looks.

  9. Postpublished at 13:09 BST

    Fichardt -13, Hall -11, Hovland -12 (8)

Thirteen under is a spot Viktor Hovland is eyeing at the eighth green.

Eighteen feet is the opportunity and it's not dropped. He stays at -12.

Harry Hall does cash in though and moves up to -11.

  10. Postpublished at 13:08 BST

There are so many players making moves today - and with the leaders not separating themselves, it's a real scramble for position.

Darius van Driel of the Netherlands and Martin Couvra of France are both five under today and three back.

Oliver Lindell from Finland is four under and also at -13.

Not stellar names, but in the mix!

  11. Lee into thirdpublished at 13:00 BST

    Lee MW -14 (12)

Five under in his past five holes - that's the scorecard of Lee Min-woo who is motoring around the turn.

    He's suddenly up to third!

The Australian has been totally under the radar, but is on the charge.

  12. Hatton drops shotpublished at 13:00 BST

    Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -14 (7)

The obligatory expletive follows a slightly errant shot by Tyrrell Hatton out of the sand, short of the seventh green. His ball catches the rough and that kills its momentum.

Adrien Saddier is next up with his lengthy putt and he steams his ball up the hill. Thankfully, for him, it catches a piece of the hole, which helps slow it down.

Back to Hatton who stabs his chip for par and the ball pulls up six feet short. A straight putt though and it's just one shot gone.

Alex Noren hits a super lag putt for a kick-in par.

Saddier to tidy up? Five feet for par. Holed.

  13. Par for Hovlandpublished at 12:54 BST

    Fichardt -13, Hall -10, Hovland -12 (7)

Update on Viktor Hovland after that fine approach. He's got 11 and a half feet, and it misses.

He'll stay at 12 under and in neutral.

Pars too for Darren Fichardt and Harry Hall.

  14. Postpublished at 12:53 BST

    Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -15

Adrien Saddier comes up a fraction short with his second on the seventh. His ball thuds into the green but he's landed on a huge slope and his ball trundles back down to the front edge. A super slow putt coming up.

Alex Noren fires his to the right level, although he's 25-feet to the left of the hole. Tyrrell Hatton is gouging a wedge out of deep rough and his ball plunges into a greenside bunker. All about the lie.

  15. Postpublished at 12:52 BST

    Rahm -12 (16)

The wind has slightly gone out of Jon Rahm's sails as he plots his way towards the finish line.

He's made par at the 16 but you feel it'll need to be something spectacular over the closing two par-fives if he's going to set an insurmountable total.

  16. 'Hopefully some putts will drop!' - Hattonpublished at 12:51 BST

    Hatton -15 (6)

Tyrrell Hatton is looking pretty serene as he wanders down the seventh hole, chatting to Sky Sports.

"I'm just trying to get myself opportunities on every hole - I've basically had a birdie putt for the first six holes but unfortunately only two have gone in so far," he laughs.

"It's going fine. I have a moan and then by the next shot I'm getting really focused and know what I'm trying to do.

"I feel fairly good, somewhat comfortable with my swing. I'm just trying to keep hitting good golf shots. Hopefully some putts will drop."

  17. Pars for leading triopublished at 12:47 BST

    Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -15 (6)

Over on the sixth and Adrien Saddier finally has a look at a birdie but the Frenchman slides his effort past the hole.

Tyrrell Hatton also has a presentable chance, from around 15 feet, but his ball stays on the green.

Alex Noren scrambles well after being out of shape of the tee, two-putting for par from 35 feet.

  18. Postpublished at 12:45 BST

    Hovland -12 (6)

I mean, wow. Majestic from Viktor Hovland whose view of the green is completely blocked by some of the giant trees that flank Wentworth.

No bother, he flops it over the foliage and kills it dead, seven feet from the pin. Terrific.

  19. Fitz chip-in birdiepublished at 12:42 BST

    Fitzpatrick -13, Ferguson -13, Reed -13 (7)

A smile from Matt Fitzpatrick follows a chip-in birdie on the seventh and he moves alongside playing partner Ewen Ferguson, who narrowly misses doing similar from the greenside rough.

Patrick Reed has a great chance to move a shot clear of them after knocking his approach to three feet. But that's an awful putt. Wow. Big miss. Par.

  20. Rai moving on uppublished at 12:38 BST

    Rai -14 (7)

Aaron Rai's terrific start continues - a fourth birdie in his opening seven holes sees the Englishman move two off the lead.

His latest is a four-footer after another pin-seeking wedge from 140 yards.
