  1. Another birdie for Brianpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +1, Harman -2, Scheffler -5 (7*)

That massive putter is starting to heat up for Brian Harman as he rolls in another birdie - it's taken a while for his flat stick to get going, but it is huge to be fair, about the size of a slow cooker so takes about the same time to warm up.

Not to be for Scottie Scheffler though, with a dribble down the slope that ends up with the ball directly behind the hole somehow having jinked off line at the last moment.

  2. Postpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +1, Harman -1, Scheffler -5 (6*)

Scottie Scheffler fires in another beauty to set up a birdie putt on 16 - he's certainly not playing like a man who spent the morning behind bars.

  3. Scheffler in handcuffspublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 17 May

  4. Harman birdiepublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +1, Harman -1, Scheffler -5 (6*)

Brian Harman takes advantage of that lovely approach shot to dip under par for the tournament, but Wyndham Clark drops a shot here to head a shot the wrong way.

A regulation par for Scottie Scheffler.

  5. Day playing his way into contention?published at 17:02 British Summer Time 17 May

    Day -3 (9*)

Jason Day, said he wanted to get himself into contention on Friday after signing for an opening round of 71.

And the 2015 champion has been as good as his word so far, with a birdie on the 10th to open up, a pretty good start.

He's just reached the turn at three under and will hope to pick up another couple of shots in his remaining holes.

  6. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -2 (7*)

Inches from another Jon Rahm birdie and this would have been a monster from 60 feet.

Yesterday all his early putts came up short but his eye seems in today on the greens.

A par keeps the wheels turning.

  7. Another bogey for Fitzpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 17 May

    Fitzpatrick +1 (7*)

A third bogey in seven holes for Matt Fitzpatrick whose round is rapidly going backwards.

He's one over par now and down to a share of 82nd, below the 70th place plus ties for the cut.

The 2022 US Open champion needs to turn this around.

  8. Noren makes his movepublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 17 May

    Noren -6 (9)

Alex Noren looks like he's rediscovered the form that carried him as high as eighth in the world rankings.

The Swede, who was part of Europe's winning Ryder Cup team in 2018, has rolled in three birdies in six holes and reaches the turn just three shots adrift of the lead.

  9. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Young +1 (6*)

Cameron Young clearly didn't feel wet enough in the pouring rain as he has found his way into Brush Run creek down the right side of the 15th.

I say he's in the creek - he's actually on a small rocky plateau in the middle of the water and is going to play from there.

He sprays it out onto the fairway, climbs back up the bank and carries on with his round.

Just another day on the course.

  10. Postpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark E, Harman E, Scheffler -5 (5*)

The 15th is a great hole with the green guarded by that water down the right, but Brian Harman takes it on and lands a sweet iron shot within six feet or so, but Scottie Scheffler is a bit offline with this one.

He's still on the green but in the two-putt for par territory.

  11. Postpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 17 May

    Morikawa -6 (7*)

Another steady par for Collin Morikawa at his seventh, the 16th.

One birdie on the card today for the 2020 US PGA champion as he tries to nudge his way closer to the leader.

  12. Rahm birdies 15published at 16:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -2 (6*)

    Sunk.

Jon Rahm finds the middle of the cup from 11-and-a-half feet to move to two under par.

His shadow in Xander Schauffele's rear-view mirror just got that little bit larger.

  13. Postpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -1 (5*)

It seems like the real Jon Rahm has come to play today.

We saw smatterings on the back nine yesterday and, starting from 10 today, he's begun where he left off.

That's a delicious approach into the par-four 15th and he'll have an inviting birdie chance shortly.

  14. Hubbard continues in same veinpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hubbard -8 (3*)

Mark Hubbard was one of the players in the later wave on Thursday and made three birdies in his final four holes in the first round to finish with a 65.

And the world number 81, whose only finishes inside the top 50 at majors have come in this event in the past two years has started where he left off.

A birdie on the 10th has him nicely placed on seven under and he's got a birdie putt incoming on 12 from 10 feet...which finds the heart of the cup.

  15. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark E, Harman E, Scheffler -5 (5*)

Another majestic recovery from Scottie Scheffler, this time with the putter from miles away just off the front of the 14th green, but he gives his long snaking putt a great roll and almost goes and holes it!

  16. Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 17 May

    Morikawa -6 (6*)

Oof Colin Morikawa was so close to another birdie on the 15th.

Just the 44 feet for birdie and it looks good all the way before nipping off the side of the cup and staying dry.

He remains three back from the lead.

  17. Postpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -1 (5*)

There's the former world number one!

Jon Rahm wizards a chip out of the deep stuff way behind the 14th green and plonks his ball to five feet.

A seeming certain bogey turned into a par save, just like that.

  18. Clark drops a shotpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark E, Harman E, Scheffler -5 (4*)

Scottie Scheffler gets a bit too gung-ho with his birdie putt and leaves himself a nervy five-footer for par. He's faced worst things than that today though I suppose so has no fear when he makes it.

Brian Harman has his second lip-out in two holes, and you can see his frustration as he shakes that massive putter head in anger. Seriously, it's the size of a phone book.

Wyndham Clark drops a shot after a bad error going long with a wedge and ending up in the cabbage.

  19. Fitz drops backpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 17 May

    Fitzpatrick E (5*)

Are we going to be biting our fingernails about Matt Fitzpatrick today?

He needs to keep his head above the cut line - currently projected at level par - and that bogey on 14 is not going to help.

Teetering at the moment, but plenty of time left in his round.

  20. Rahm birdies 13published at 16:12 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -1 (4*)

A bogey at the 12th for Jon Rahm but he has immediately bounced back with a birdie on the 13th.

That'll cool him down. That, and the persistent rain.
