  1. Scheffler chargespublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler (15:08 BST)

Our man at Valhalla Iain Carter reports that Scottie Scheffler's lawyer has been on TV in America and confirmed that the world number one is still facing the charges we've mentioned, they've not been dropped.

    Again, they are:

    • Second degree assault of a police officer
    • Third degree criminal mischief
    • Reckless driving
    • Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic
  2. 'If he shoots 65 today just go ahead and give him the trophy'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 17 May

    Graeme McDowellImage source, Getty Images

Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell is another player to comment on Scottie Scheffler on X.

"Most tour players can relate to trying to navigate around traffic getting into courses at massive tournaments (and no, not a problem we have at LIV events much )(yes, because we don’t get large crowds yet). I’d imagine the police were on high alert with the fatality, assuming timing was similar.

"Emotions would have been running high. Crazy stuff. If he shoots 65 today just go ahead and give him the trophy."

  3. Poulter on Scheffler 'chaos'published at 14:47 British Summer Time 17 May

    Ian PoulterImage source, Getty Images

Ian Poulter has taken to X to have his say on the Scottie Scheffler incident, and what players are usually told about traffic around the course.

"So bizarre hearing the Scottie Scheffler Chaos this morning. This is crazy. We as players at multiple tournaments every year are told during traffic around the venue to put Hazard lights on and proceed to the venue.

"This is as simple as a misunderstanding. And clearly all will be dropped. The End. Hope he goes and plays well now today."

  4. Scheffler ready to gopublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 17 May

Amazingly, Scottie Scheffler has got changed and is making his way onto the range for a quick warm-up, via a fist-bump with Rickie Fowler.

All of us amateur golfers have had a hurried arrival and rushed warm-up before a round, maybe not quite for the same reasons though.

"You're not a criminal" shouts who I'm sure is a well meaning fan, not sure that helps though.

  5. PGA statementpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 17 May

We obviously have to keep in mind that someone has tragically lost their life this morning at a golf tournament - with that fatal accident just outside Valhalla - and our thoughts are with those involved.

And the PGA of America have now released this statement:

"This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club.

"This is heart breaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”

  6. How does Scheffler react?published at 14:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler -4 (15:08 BST)

Scottie Scheffler has shown immense mental strength in his game, he's fended off injury before to win tournaments, he had a baby only last week but then hit the ground running yesterday.

However, nothing could have prepared him for a morning in jail, and if he does indeed tee it up in under an hour how in the world will he be able to focus?

  11. Scheffler releasedpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 17 May

The Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections website says Scottie Scheffler has been released, and reports in America say that he's now on his way back to Valhalla.

But will that be to play? Or just to collect his belongings and go home? And can he actually play if he's been charged with a criminal offence under PGA of America rules?

We'll bring you the latest when we get it.

  12. Scheffler chargespublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 17 May

There's a mugshot and charge sheet for Scottie Scheffler now on the local law enforcement website, and the charges don't look great.

    • Second degree assault of a policer officer
    • Third degree criminal mischief
    • Reckless driving
    • Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic
  13. Will taking a walkpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 17 May

There's a lot of chaos around Valhalla right now, with Irish golf journalist Brian Keogh detailing a massive traffic jam at the Louisville course.

So much so, that he caught Will Zalatoris and Cameron Young getting out of their cars and deciding to walk the half a mile remaining to the entrance.

    It's a warm-up of sorts I suppose.

  14. 'Let's just hope sense prevails'published at 13:59 British Summer Time 17 May

Dame Laura Davies on Sky Sports talking about Scottie Scheffler:

"There were police cars everywhere at the gate when we came in on our bus, you wouldn’t have known what you were doing at the time and as golfers you have to try and get there as soon as you can.

"I’m sure he wasn’t giving it the ‘I’m Scottie Scheffler’ card. It seems like a genuine mistake let's just hope sense prevails.

"If Scottie is upset by it enough, he doesn’t have to play. That’s the only way I don’t want to see him playing today."

  15. Will Scottie play?published at 13:48 British Summer Time 17 May

Everyone's scrambling around to see just where Scottie Scheffler is and what the rules are if he misses his tee time.

According to Rule 5.3a players must be "ready to play at the starting time and starting point set by the committee” and in general the punishment is disqualification.

The PGA of America can, though, as organisers rule that Scheffler was unable to make his tee time due to “exceptional circumstances” and allow them to play on.

There's still a lot to get through on this one...

  16. What now for Scheffler?published at 13:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler -4 (67)

The scenes of Scottie Scheffler being led away by police are incredible, and now all the talk is whether he'll be back at Valhalla in time to make his second round start time.

Originally due to tee off at 13:48 BST, due to the delay of an hour and 20 minutes it means that Scheffler's tee time is now 15:08 BST if my maths are right.

That doesn't give him long to sort this out and get back to the course - and who knows what mental state he'll be in even if he does!

Amazingly, ESPN sports journalist Jeff Darlington was right there on the scene when Scottie Scheffler was detained by police - and managed to video the world number one being led away in handcuffs.

"Can you please help me," Scheffler says at one point. But police respond with: "He's going to jail and there ain't nothing you can do about it."
