    Clark -1, Harman E, Scheffler -5 (3*)

It's a birdie hole the 13th as a short par four, and Scottie Scheffler with a wedge hitting onto rain soften receptive greens usually ends in a birdie.

He's nipped in a nice one pin high, no gimme by any means but makeable.

I'm running out of words for Scottie Scheffler! He's just drained a 25-footer on the 12th to secure a second birdie of the day and get back to five under.

"Scottie, Scottie, Scottie!" chant the crowd who are backing their man all the way.

  3. Birdie for Detrypublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 17 May

    Detry -6 (4)

Belgium's Thomas Detry is playing the course the right way round and has just birdied the fourth to join the growing group on six under.

It's raining in Valhalla. It's all about keeping the sticks dry for the caddies.

  4. Birdie for Morikawapublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Morikawa -6, Mickelson +2 (4*)

Collin Morikawa is up to within three of the lead. Textbook playing of the 13th. Iron off the tee for position, wedge to the green and hole a 10-foot putt. Simple game.

Phil Mickelson from about one-third of that range for his birdie... oh, that's poor. His effort grazes the left edge and goes about the same distance the other side. He could have done with that given he's the wrong side of par.

  5. Bogey for Rahmpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm E (3*)

Jon Rahm is simmering again. He had a poor start yesterday and was four over after six holes. He's scrambled a par at the 11th but is dropping at least one on the par-four 12th. He holes from four feet to make sure it's just one.

  6. Scheffler bogeypublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark -1, Harman E, Scheffler -4 (2*)

If there is any mental issues for Scottie Scheffler, they'll come out on the greens, and there may have been some on the 11th green as he's missed a par putt from only about four feet.

    It wasn't even close either.

  7. 'Just a bad scene'published at 15:41 British Summer Time 17 May

    Brian HarmanImage source, Getty Images

Brian Harman is playing alongside Scottie Scheffler and is delighted that he's able to take part in today's second round:

"It’s a wild morning man, I don’t know all the details but knowing Scottie, he's one hell of a dude, and I sure am glad he's going to be out here to play.

Harman also talked about the chaotic scenes outside Valhalla this morning:

"I got the text early enough so I got to sleep in and by the time I got here everything wax cleared up but it was so congested there at the front. Just a bad scene."

  8. Ace alert!published at 15:38 British Summer Time 17 May

    Soderberg E (8)

We've had our first hole-in-one of the 2024 US PGA Championship and it's come from Sweden's Sebastian Soderberg on the eighth hole.

He's not had the best of tournaments so far, but he's found the cup from 175 yards to get himself back into it and thrill the crowd - before taking the best walk in golf down to the green, with no putter needed.

That takes him back to level par for the tournament and in with a shout of making the cut.

Four years ago Soderberg recorded the fastest round in DP World Tour history - 75 shots in 97 minutes and now he makes the first hole-in-one at Valhalla since 1996.

  9. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark -1, Harman E, Scheffler -4 (1*)

No particularl stand-out shots from this group on the par-three 11th with none of them finding the green - Brian Harman goes left into the sand, and Wyndham Clark goes even further left into the crowd.

Scottie Scheffler is closest, just on the fridge of the green, pin high to the right.

  10. Rahm saves parpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -1, Fowler E (2*)

Jon Rahm finds the green on the 212-yard par-three 11th, his second hole of the day. But he's a good 45 feet from the hole. He gives his effort a rattle but he's not quite got the spped of the greens sorted and his ball whistles six feet past.

But that's a solid return putt. Right into the heart of the hole and a good par.

Playing partner Rickie Fowler also knocks in for par, to follow his opening birdie. Early indications are suggesting the cut mark may come around level par and both these players will be keeping tabs on that.

  11. Scheffler starts with a birdiepublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark -1, Harman E, Scheffler -5 (1*)

You just knew it didn't you. Literally nothing can putt Scottie Scheffler off when he's playing golf as he starts his second round with a birdie four.

After the morning he's had, to rock up and do that is just incredible.

  12. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 17 May

    Kim -6 (3*)

Tom Kim is the first of those near the top of the leaderboard to make a leap forwards. The South Korean has birdied the par-three second to get to six under.

But he's in a spot of bother on the 12th, missing the green with his second shot and finding himself in shin-deep rough. He can only hack out to about 15 feet.

Testing par putt coming up. In it goes, creeps in the left edge.

  13. Postpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark E, Harman +1, Scheffler -4

Well there's nothing too wrong with Scottie Scheffler's game so far, he has to hack out of the rough but he's then sent a spinny wedge onto the green that's jumped and danced back towards the hole to set up a birdie chance.

  14. Missed chance for Rahmpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm -1 (1*)

Jon Rahm is in the group ahead of Scottie Scheffler and is playing his third shot on the par-five 10th, chipping up to around five feet to give himself a decent look at an opening birdie.

The Spaniard can't convert the chance though, so starts with a par.

  15. Lowry birdiepublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lowry -3 (4*)

Ireland's Shane Lowry is another player starting on the back nine today and he's just taken advantage of the short par-four 13th, knocking in what I suspect will be one of many many birdies on that hole today.

  16. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Morikawa -5 (2*)

Collin Morikawa bounced back from a poor start to post a five-under 66 on day and the American is off to a solid start with pars on his opening two holes.

You can only imagine what's racing through Scottie Scheffler's mind as he steps up onto the 10th tee to start his second round.

In some way this might be just what he needs, no time to dwell on things and get back into his safe space inside the ropes.

His opening drive isn't great, understandably, as it's leaked into the right rough.

  19. Scottie on the teepublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler -4 (15:08 BST)

Right then, here comes Scottie Scheffler walking in the Kentucky rain, under an umbrella, and he gets a great reception from the fans gathered there.

He's known as one of golf's good guys so it's not surprising the supporters have given him that welcome.

  20. Scheffler statementpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 17 May

ESPN's Jeff Darlington has posted on X to report a statement he's received from Scottie Scheffler:

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.

"I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”
