  1. Postpublished at 00:22 British Summer Time 18 May

    Schauffele -12, Thomas -6 (17)

Justin Thomas' birdie try tracks nicely on the 17th but stays up, missing on the right.

What has Xander Schauffele learnt? Plenty. His ball is in all the way... but no... inches right at the very end and grazes the cup. As you were.

  2. Postpublished at 00:20 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -8 (11)

Bryson DeChambeau is enjoying a bogey-free round today but the big-hitter has a little work to do on the 12th to keep that going after coming up short of the green with his second shot and then being unable to control his chip, which trundles through to the back of the green and into the first cut of rough.

  3. Johnson charging towards cut linepublished at 00:20 British Summer Time 18 May

    Johnson E, McIlroy -4, Rose -3 (15)

Absolutely nothing happening for Rory McIlroy at all at present who looks very flat.

In total contrast Dustin Johnson makes his third birdie in four holes and the cut is now looking a very realistic proposition for the American.

  4. Leaderboardpublished at 00:17 British Summer Time 18 May

    -11 Morikawa (65)

    -10 Theegala (12)

    -9 Detry (67), Scheffler (66), Hubbard (68), MacIntyre (14*)

    Selected others:

    -8 DeChambeau

    -7 Koepka, Hovland (14), Wallace (16*)

    -6 Rai (68), Thomas (16)

    -4 Lowry (69), McIlroy (14)

  5. Postpublished at 00:17 British Summer Time 18 May

    Schauffele -12, Thomas -6 (16)

Xander Schauffele might well be leading but he'd probably welcome a couple of birdies to finish. He's done the hard part on 17 by finding the green with his second shot to leave himself a good look from 12 feet.

Playing partner Justin Thomas definitely needs a birdie-birdie finish, or better. He finds the middle of the green, about twice as far away as Xander and will show the leader the line to the hole.

  6. Birdie for Theegala as Finaua cards a doublepublished at 00:12 British Summer Time 18 May

    Finau -7, Theegala -10, Hatton -1 (12)

Sahith Theegala is back in business on the tough 12th hole. The American spirals his approach in to 16 feet and then knocks in a far from easy birdie putt.

Tony Finau makes a right hash of it mind hacking his way down the left to drop in a very untidy double as he undoes his good work on the 11th.

  7. Par save from Hovlandpublished at 00:10 British Summer Time 18 May

    Hovland -7 (14)

    Very well played Viktor Hovland.

Scrunched out in the rough, his chip onto the green would not hold back as it rolled past the hole.

No matter though as he converts the putt coming back to save par.

  8. Postpublished at 00:04 British Summer Time 18 May

    Schauffele -12 (16)

Immaculate pace from Xander Schauffele on the 16th green but 23-and-a-half feet always seemed ambitious for birdie and so it proves.

Make that five straight pars for the leader.

  9. Johnson edges closer to cut linepublished at 00:02 British Summer Time 18 May

    Johnson +1, McIlroy -4, Rose -3 (14)

Another hole, another par for Rory McIlroy, who yet again has a look at birdie from over 20 feet on the putting surface.

After heading right and tackling a 25 footer, Justin Rose scrambles a par but there is a much needed birdie for DJ who nailed his approach.

  10. DeChambeau makes a movepublished at 00:00 British Summer Time 18 May

    DeChambeau -8 (11)

Valhalla promised to be a tasty course for Bryson DeChambeau and he's living up to those expectations.Five under today through 11 and he does not look finished.

    Woods +8 (15)

Ah, almost some late joy for Tiger Woods as his 21-foot birdie attempt looks bang in line at 15 only to lip out.

    Just not happening.

  12. Birdie for Finaupublished at 23:55 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -9, Theegala -9, Hatton -2 (11)

Oh hello...Tony Finau hits a looping draw into the 11th and his eyes light up when he realises that'll give him a bona-fide birdie putt from 10 feet or under.

I can't remember the last Tyrrell Hatton shot I saw but apparently he's in the left bunker.

Meanwhile Sahith Theegala's ball comes to a rest just outside his American compatriot but there's no birdie bounceback with his putt drifting from right to left.

Finau's first birdie since the second hole puts him amongst a sextet of players on nine under.

  13. MacIntyre into the top threepublished at 23:50 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -9 (13*)

If I'm saying Brooks Koepka is in the mix, how about Bob MacIntyre?

He's on the opposite side of the golf course to most of these protagonists but every time we see him he is putting for birdie.

And another one has just dropped. Nine under now for his tournament and into a share of third.

  14. Postpublished at 23:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -4, Rose -3 (13)

Rory McIlroy really could do with a big finish down this closing stretch but are there any signs of one arriving? Not yet.

The four-time major winner finds the 13th green but crikey could you even call that a birdie chance from 26 feet? It'll be another par and he remains a stroke worse off than when he started the day.

  15. Another birdie for Koepkapublished at 23:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Koepka -7 (12)

Stones from Brooks Koepka who has birdied two in a row after that ugly double bogey on 10.

Back up to seven under and, with Xander Schauffele not stretching away, perhaps Koepka can get up among it.

  16. Postpublished at 23:48 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (15)

Four pars in a row for Xander Schauffele as another birdie putt does not threaten the hole.

He's got three left to extend his lead before he has to play alongside his competitors tomorrow.

  17. Postpublished at 23:47 British Summer Time 17 May

    Woods +8 (14)

There are still plenty of people in the galleries watching Tiger Woods - he remains the biggest draw even if he is a long way off the pace.

Two well-taken putts on 13 and 14 at least keep his score somewhat under control.

  18. Theegala punished for errors on 10thpublished at 23:45 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -9, Hatton -2 (10)

A first bogey of the day for Sahith Theegala, who is punished for his errors coming down the 10th. To end up next to a recycling bin from the cart path takes some doing.

To be honest he does well to even get a par putt out of that, which obviously doesn't drop.

  19. Unforced mistake from Hovlandpublished at 23:39 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -7 (13)

Viktor Hovland shakes his head as he contemplates dropping a shot on 13.

Six feet to save par after a poor second shot from 169 yards that found greenside rough and he's lagged it.

  20. Koepka immediately bounces backpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Koepka -6 (11)

Stunning from Brooks Koepka as he consigns that double bogey to history with an outrageous tee shot on 11.

Zoomed in to within three feet and tapped home.

    Back on the birdie train.
