  1. Schauffele makes first bogeypublished at 22:45 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (11)

Searing concentration from Xander Schauffele as he weighs up this five footer.

He knows a first bogey of the tournament would be quite the momentum sapper.

On its way and slightly right, it rolls round the edge and lips out.

A chink in the Californian's armour.

  2. Postpublished at 22:42 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -8, Hatton -1 (6)

Tony Finau was out of position off the tee but his wedge in towards the seventh pin, sees his ball screech back nicely to leave a birdie chance.

Tyrell Hatton finds the native area with his second off the back of the green. Ouch.

  3. Postpublished at 22:42 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -13 (10)

A little tentative from Xander Schauffele as he putts from the fringe at 11.

He's left it four feet short so it'll be a niggler to save par.

  4. Postpublished at 22:40 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -7 (9*)

Shame for Bob MacIntyre who only needed a couple more rolls of his ball to sink a birdie at 18.

He rounds off his front nine two under for the day.

  5. Postpublished at 22:39 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -2 (9)

Rory McIlroy takes a 'what the heck' approach with his putt and drains it. What a oar save that could be.

DJ readies himself for a birdie putt from six feet as the Northern Irishman strides purposefully off the dancefloor, like a man heading for his next pint at the bar.

  6. Postpublished at 22:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -2 (8)

One mistake after another for Rory McIlroy, whose arms come up in pure disgust as his chip from the rough lands woefully short.

The world number two will be putting from 25 feet for par.

  7. Birdie for Schauffelepublished at 22:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -13 (10)

    Too easy.

Xander Schauffele polishes up on 10 and moves to 13 under par.

The highest score after 36 holes at this tournament is -12 from Brooks Koepka in 2019... Schauffele is chasing more records.

  8. Postpublished at 22:34 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -8, Hatton -1 (6)

This trio all take the trip left off the seventh tee trying to cut the corner off the 589-yard par five.

Tony Finau looks like he's in the thicker stuff, surely the green will be out of reach from there.

  9. Do we like Viktor's attire?published at 22:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -6 (8)

    Viktor HovlandImage source, Getty Images

While we're on Viktor, we should probably highlight his shirt, which is giving me washing up liquid vibes.

And I'm not sure if that's a bad thing or not.

  10. Postpublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -6 (8)

A tidy little run from Viktor Hovland as he makes back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh.

His tee shot on eight finds the green but it's a little short and he'll have 22 feet to keep his birdie charge going.

It just comes up short so he takes a par.

  11. Postpublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -2 (8)

That's not going to hold. Rory McIlroy surprisingly takes an eight iron for the 143-yard trip into the green with his second on the ninth.

But his ball catches the front edge of the green and then trundles back and right into the thicker stuff. He could have done with watching Tiger here a little earlier.

  12. Postpublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (9)

It is indeed all trampled down out left of the green for Xander Schauffele so his ball is readily accessible.

Does he have the skill to spin it down onto the putting surface? You bet. That’s a delicate waft that swishes past the flag and comes to a halt five feet away for birdie.

  13. Birdie for Rosepublished at 22:26 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -2 (8)

No drama for Rory McIlroy on the eighth who makes a solid enough par as his playing partners cash in from 20 and 11 feet respectively.

  14. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (9)

Unlike Xander Schauffele as he over-cuts his shot from the middle of the 10th fairway.

He's found himself in the spectators out left when we would have probably expected to see his ball threatening the green.

Still, it's probably pretty trampled down over there so it could be a decent lie for the leader.

  15. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -7 (8*)

Another tidily played hole on the 17th from Bob MacIntyre who rolls a birdie look just past the cup.

Par five coming up to close out his front nine.

  16. Postpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Woods +6 (8)

Back to back birdies for Tiger Woods but he'll struggle to dig another out on the ninth.

His second into the green has stopped on the lip and started sliding backwards down that deceptive slope.

Still a very long way back for the four-time champion.

  17. Schauffele takes solo leadpublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 17 May

    Aberg +1, Schauffele -12, Thomas -5 (9)

No pace worries down the hill at nine for Xander Schauffele and just the sheer pull of gravity sees his ball tumble into the cup for a birdie to finish his front nine.

And it's been flawless from the overnight leader, who still hasn't dropped a shot and has added three birdies to take the outright lead on his own as he makes the turn.

  18. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +3, McIlroy -6, Rose -1 (7)

No joy for Justin Rose at the seventh. The 2013 US Open champion looks disgusted as his birdie putt lips out.

The smile is back on Rory McIlroy's face though as he tickles in his birdie putt.

DJ, who had to hoik his ball out of the thick stuff down the left of the left fairway drops further back. It'll be a battle for the two-time major winner to make the cut from here.

  19. Postpublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -8, Hatton E (5)

Tyrrell Hatton goes flag hunting on the sixth and stiffs his iron shot to gimme range. That was an absolute bullet and should put the Englishman back in the red.

  20. MacIntyre finds third birdie of the daypublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -7 (7*)

Lovely work from Bob MacIntyre who navigates the tricky 16th hole by rolling in a birdie putt.

He's up to -7 now and keeping himself interested.
