  1. Postpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -10, Hatton -2 (9)

Sahith Theegala has not dropped a shot yet today but he surely must here. His tee shot off the 10th is accompanied by a loud shot of 'fore left' and he ends up clipping a tree with his second from the cart path.

His ball seemingly has found a hospitality area and looks pretty unplayable near a bin, he'll surely be taking a free drop from somewhere closer to the fairway.

Meanwhile, Tony Finau goes from fairway bunker to the rather deep front bunker protecting the front of the 10th.

  2. Postpublished at 23:31 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (14)

You wonder if these opportunities will come back to haunt Xander Schauffele.

A cracking tee shot on 14 sets him up nicely for birdie but he's dragged it wide.

Yet to get going on the back nine and still only one shot clear.

  3. McIlroy's double troublepublished at 23:29 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -4, Rose -3 (12)

Rory McIlroy is playing his third out of the sand on the 12th after tugging his approach right. The Northern Irishman flies out of the greenside bunker but straight across the dancefloor into the thicker cut. That was always going to be tough to control.

He then duffs his chip well short and misses a bogey putt to end up with a double. Very messy from the world number two, who is wobbling here.

  4. Double bogey for Koepkapublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 17 May

    Koepka -5 (10)

Remember at 23:03 when Brooks Koepka looked ready to turn it on?

He's well and truly turned it off at 10 after flinging his ball wildly into the rough to the left of the green.

A drop, a three-putt, a frustrated grimace. He's double bogeyed and is back to five under par.

  5. Successive birdies for Rosepublished at 23:23 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +3, McIlroy -6, Rose -3 (11)

Rory McIlroy just has not got going at all today despite having made the perfect start. His tee shot on the 11th is left and leaves him with too much to do with putter in hand. Just a par for McIlroy.

Justin Rose is starting to bubble and makes back-to-back birdies to make light of a bogey on the ninth.

  6. Postpublished at 23:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (13)

Xander Schauffele is putting from the back of the 13th green but it's not as far from the cup as I thought.

He sends it on its way but it never turns quite enough and skims the side of the hole.

    Stays at 12 under.

  7. More joy for Hovlandpublished at 23:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -8 (11)

Howdy Viktor Hovland! He's drained another birdie putt, this time on the 11th green from 18 feet.

Looks totally dialled in at the moment and he's not that far back at eight under par.

  8. Woods slides further backpublished at 23:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Woods +8 (12)

Not the round Tiger Woods had in mind.

His third shot into the 12th green nearly lands plumb in the hole but scoots five feet by. Then he misses the par putt.

A shrug as he bends down gingerly to collect his ball from the hole.

  9. Birdie for Theegalapublished at 23:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -10, Hatton -2 (9)

Sahith Theegala and Tony Finau are really spurring each other on here. The American have similarish approaches into the ninth green from around 145 yards and knock them to 16 and 13 feet respectively. A case of whatever you can do eh.

Theegala, who turned professional four years ago, putts first down the slope and slides it in for birdie. He reaches the turn on 31.

    Finau can't follow suit.

  10. Postpublished at 23:16 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (12)

Time to put your foot down Xander Schauffele?

Wedge in hand, he eyes up the 13th green from 120 yards and lands it there - just - but it's at the back. Not pressing the accelerator yet.

A wry smile as he hands his club back to his caddie.

  11. Hovland finds another birdiepublished at 23:14 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -7 (10)

It's great to see Viktor Hovland finding his feet again and he's helped himself to another birdie.

He earned that with a delicious wedge that landed two feet from the pin.

A rocky 2024 so far but at seven under par, he's moving himself into position.

  12. Postpublished at 23:11 British Summer Time 17 May

    Schauffele -12 (12)

After bogeying the 11th, Xander Schauffele takes a steady par on the 12th.

He'll keep his lead and mosey on to the 13th. At the moment, he is level with Brooks Koepka's 36-hole record at the US PGA Championship of -12.

  13. Postpublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 17 May

Players currently outside the projected cut line include...Jon Rahm, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sepp Straka, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, Sam Burns, Dustin Johnson, Wyndham Clark, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Tiger Woods.

A stellar cast that could spend the weekend at home.

  14. Birdie for MacIntyrepublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 17 May

    MacIntyre -8 (10*)

After spurning some chances over the past couple of holes, Bob MacIntyre makes it count at the first with a fine birdie putt.

Just reward for an outstanding second shot that stiffed six feet from the pin.

    Into the top 10.

  15. Koepka creeps up the boardpublished at 23:03 British Summer Time 17 May

    Koepka -7 (9)

    What's Brooks Koepka up to?

Well, he's having a round that looks a bit like Rory McIroy's - flickering but yet to ignite.

As I'm writing that, he goes and rolls in his fourth birdie of the day.

He makes the turn three under and up to -7 for the tournament.

Five off the lead is nothing for a man who gobbles up majors for breakfast.

  16. Postpublished at 23:01 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -9, Hatton -2 (8)

Another hole ticked off the list for this trio, who are a combined seven under for today.

  17. Postpublished at 22:58 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +3, McIlroy -6, Rose -2 (10)

Rory McIlroy looks to the heavens...his pitch on actually ran on another seven or eight feet after skipping over the cup and the world number two can't drain the return for a birdie.

A wayward tee shot sends DJ into the right rough and he then shoots out left to the native area before taking his medicine. It costs him a stroke. How crucial might that be given the projected cut of one under.

  18. Woods bogeys 11published at 22:58 British Summer Time 17 May

    Woods +7 (11)

Sighs of frustration at the 11th as Tiger Woods' par putt scoots round the lip of the hole and stays up.

Another bogey for the embattled former champion who is now eight shots behind the projected cut line of one under par.

  19. Wallace climbs the leaderboardpublished at 22:56 British Summer Time 17 May

    Wallace -6 (13*)

Englishman Matt Wallace is putting together an impressive round, quietly advancing up towards the top 10.

He's birdied his past two holes to make that five so far today on an unblemished card.

That moves him alongside Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy at six under par.

  20. Theegala & Hatton make birdiespublished at 22:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -8, Theegala -9, Hatton -2 (7)

The bend of the knees always betray a missed putt don't they and Tony Finau is at it again on the seventh. Just a par for the American, who slides his opportunity of a four right.

Sahith Theegala makes no mistake, sinking his birdie putt in from nine feet.

And despite his trek into the long stuff Tyrrell Hatton also claims a four, with a sensational third shot to three ensuring there are no profanities from the Englishman.
