  1. Hovland holes out!published at 21:12 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hovland -5 (4)

A bit like Scottie Scheffler at the first yesterday, Viktor Hovland holes out from the fairway on the fourth to land a welcome eagle two.

The Norwegian is 76 yards away and his wedge shot takes one bounce and then dives into the cup, to the delight of the fans packed around the ground.

It's an eagle that fires Hovland into contention.

  2. Birdies for Hatton & Finaupublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 17 May

    Finau -7, Theegala -6, Hatton -1 (2)

After Tony Finau's birdie on the first, Tyrrell Hatton grabs one on the second, draining a 20 footer from the right of the dancefloor.

Not to be outdone, Finau, who clipped on to six feet drops his ball into the heart of the cup for a birdie of his own. Two holes, two birdies.

  3. Scheffler's sympathy with tragic fan's familypublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 17 May

    Scheffler -9 (66)

Scottie Scheffler: "First of all, my sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Mills. I can't imagine what they're going through this morning. One day he's heading to the golf course to watch a tournament.

"A few moments later he's trying to cross the street, and now he's no longer with us. I can't imagine what they're going through. My heart - I feel for them. I'm sorry.

"My situation will get handled. It was a chaotic situation and a big misunderstanding. I can't comment on any of the specifics of it."

  4. Rose bounces backpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -1 (4)

Rory McIlroy has his wedge in hand as he spins his second into the pin which is situated on the front left of the fourth green.

It's a decent line but his ball spins back four or five feet further than he'd have liked to leave a mid-range putt for birdie.

He burns the left edge of the cup and looks away almost in disbelief.

Exemplary wedge play from Justin Rose sees him bounce back into the red as he drops in a six footer for birdie.

  5. Postpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose E (3)

Another solid hole for Rory McIlroy, who again lands his tee shot about 35 feet from the pin and then gets down in two.

Former world number one Dustin Johnson, goes closest knocking in to 12 feet but can't sink his birdie putt and it's pars all around.

  6. Hat-trick for JTpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 17 May

    Aberg +2, Schauffele -10, Thomas -5 (4)

Justin Thomas is flying now as he hits his third birdie in a row to get to five under.

Another good lag putt from Xander Schauffele leaves him with another stress-free par - it's pretty important to keep things as easy as possible for yourself in a major.

  7. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose E (2)

That was not far away at all. Rory McIlroy lifts his arm in acknowledgment of the round of applause he gets as his ball trickles past the pin on the second by 18 inches or so. From 40 feet plus that's a very decent result.

Justin Rose ships an early shot after chipping his third 11 feet past.

  8. Unique triple for Woodspublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 17 May

    Woods +4 (2)

Tiger Woods started his round at one over par, knowing he needed to shoot under par to have a chance of making it through to the weekend.

The former world number one opened with a par but he's had his worst ever hole in a US PGA Championship at the second, posting his first triple bogey in almost 1,500 holes in this event.

A wayward drive into the rough started his problems and he left his second in the thick stuff. Woods then duffed his third into a greenside bunker and then flew out of that one through the green into more sand. His fifth made the green and two putts from 20 feet added up to a ruinous seven.

A long way back from here.

  9. Scheffler signs for a 66published at 20:34 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +4, Harman -2, Scheffler -9 (F)

Scottie Scheffler misses the green short left, but stuns the ball in with a low, skippy, chip shot that settles just under four feet away.

And he duly knocks it in to cap an incredible five-under round of 66 that would be a fine round under normal circumstances, but after what happened this morning it's absolutely incredible.

Sadly for US Open champion Wyndham Clark, though, that difficult end to his round means the end of his US PGA Championship this year.

  10. Postpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -1 (1)

Rory McIlroy takes the front greenside bunker out of play with his 200-yard approach into the second as Justin Rose and Dustin Johnson come up short of the green.

    He couldn't, could he?

  11. Schauffele has the X-factorpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 17 May

    Aberg +2, Schauffele -10, Thomas -3 (3)

Xander Schauffele gets into double figure in great style on the par-three third, courtesy of finding the bottom of the cup with a huge putt from only just under 40 feet away.

Justin Thomas follows him in, from considerably closer mind you, to make it consecutive birdies for the two-time US PGA winner.

  12. Clark heading homepublished at 20:23 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +4, Harman -2, Scheffler -8 (17*)

Scottie Scheffler just can't convert a birdie putt on eight - although surprise, surprise it was bang on line when it just ran out of steam.

Wyndham Clark drops another shot though, as he goes bogey-double bogey-bogey to tumble down the standings and we won't be seeing the US Open champion contend this weekend.

  13. 'We had no idea what was going on'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 17 May

    English -7 (67*)

    Harris EnglishImage source, Getty Images

Harris English, who is currently seventh has been chatting to the media about the tragic morning at Valhalla, after completing his second round:"I got there right after all the police cars got there. I had no idea what was going on. I knew they weren't letting anybody through from that side I was arriving from, so I had to turn around, go north of the course, took an extra 20 minutes or so, and then I got to turn into the club.

"I's dark, it's raining, police lights everywhere. It was very strange coming into the course this morning. Then news broke that Scottie [Scheffler] had been detained and all that. We had no idea what was going on. That could have been any one of us. We're all taking that same route coming into the club. Very unfortunate.

"You never want to hear about a person losing their life coming to the course. It's just terrible. Our heart goes out to that family. Turn on ESPN and seeing Scottie in handcuffs, getting in a police car, I never would have thought I would have seen that this morning. It was just wild."

  14. Hubbard drops backpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 17 May

    Hubbard -8 (15*)

It's been a rollercoaster few holes for Mark Hubbard, who has gone bogey, birdie and birdie over his last three holes.

He's definitely on a dip here mind as he goes left with his approach into the sixth and only just clips over the bunker to leave a lengthy putt up the slope for par, which veers off from the hole and comes up short.

  15. Rahm on cut linepublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 17 May

    Rahm E (72)

We mentioned Matt Fitzpatrick has an anxious wait and he'll be joined by Ryder Cup team-mate Jon Rahm.

The burly Spaniard finished with four straight pars and ends up level after day two.

That's where we're expecting the cut - it's just which side of the line he will fall.

  16. McIlroy opens with a birdiepublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 17 May

    Johnson +2, McIlroy -6, Rose -1 (1)

Rory McIlroy is up and running and finds the middle of the fairway with his driver. He tugs his second a little left but that'll be on the putting surface.

It is an the Northern Irishman is weighing up a monster birdie putt, which he drains. What a start.

Justin Rose is also on in two and faces a putt from around 20 feet for a three. Ditto for DJ. Neither succeed.

  17. JT from downtownpublished at 20:16 British Summer Time 17 May

    Aberg +1, Schauffele -9, Thomas -3 (2)

Another par for Xander Schauffele but Justin Thomas gives the crowd something to shout about as he cans a bomb from almost 30 feet away to pick up an early birdie.

  18. Scheffler lands a long onepublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 17 May

    Clark +3, Harman -2, Scheffler -9 (16*)

Scottie Scheffler got a bit of a jumper out of the right rough but knocked it on the green, some 20 feet away though with an outside chance of birdie.

BUT it's not an outside chance for him, and the world number one drains it to get to nine under.

  19. Fitz finishes at level parpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 17 May

    Fitzpatrick E (73)

    Matt FitzpatrickImage source, Getty Images

A closing par for Matt Fitzpatrick confirms a two-over 73 for day two.

It leaves him scrambling on the projected cut line of level par - and facing an anxious wait.

  20. Morikawa closes with a bogeypublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 17 May

    Morikawa -11 (65)

Not this time Collin Morikawa as his clean card gets a blemish at the last.

He's not read that distance putt right and it's drifted by so he finishes with a bogey.

    What a round though - a six-under 65 - and he's got himself a two-shot lead.
