So Mauricio Pochettino is hoping to lift his Spurs players after the Wembley defeat - but admits there was a black cloud hanging over Monday's training session.

"It was difficult - that is the reality," says the Argentine. "Because we get two feelings, one a bad feeling but also you feel good because you did your best and performance was good.

"I spoke about the final to improve, this is a good game for growing, I think this is a very, very good opportunity to improve."

There is no time for moping about at White Hart Lane. That's the message from Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as his side look to bounce back from their Wembley woe.

Spurs entertain Premier League rivals Swansea tomorrow, three days after losing the League Cup final against Chelsea.

"We need to lift the players," says Pochettino. "We need to put the idea into the team that tomorrow is the most important game.

"We know that is difficult because the expectation was so high for Wembley. But we need to forget that."

  3. John Carver news conferencepublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

But John Carver's smile soon disappears when he is informed by one member of the press pack that Newcastle have won just two of their past 24 matches against Manchester United.

However, the Toon boss is taking inspiration from December 2013 - when Newcastle recorded their first win at Old Trafford since 1972.

"We're confident," he says resolutely. "Remember the sequence when we went to Old Trafford? Hadn't won there for how long? Why not."

  4. John Carver news conferencepublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

"You have to find a way of breaking them down. We have looked at them, we understand how we can do that - and I'm keeping that right inside," says a grinning Carver.

  5. John Carver news conferencepublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Newcastle manager John Carver understands it is "difficult" for Manchester United supporters to become used to their team's more patient style under Louis van Gaal.

"They have seen how entertaining they have been, they have always been on the front foot going forward, lots of crosses, exciting football," says the Geordie boss.

"Now it has changed slightly because the new manager has come in with a different style - patient build up, lots of possession, lots of different systems which can be confusing.

"But the principles are the same - they like to keep possession, work balls into wide areas and get the ball into box. But it takes longer because he likes to go from back to front. I can see why the fans get frustrated with it."
