    Former Australian Rugby League star Jarryd Hayne has announced he has secured a deal to play American football with the San Francisco 49ers.

    The 27-year-old played 176 games for the Parramatta Eels in Sydney, scoring 103 tries, before announcing an unprecedented code swap late last year.

    He said he had agreed to a rookie contract with the 49ers, which guarantees him a spot at the organisation for 15-20 weeks, but he will need to impress in the lead-up to the next NFL season, when the 49ers cut their roster to 53 players in August.

    It had ruled out such a move but has now written to its counterparts in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales to ask them if they want to take part.

    Incidents of discrimination in English professional and grassroots football have increased, according to the anti-discrimination body Kick It Out.

    The organisation says 184 reports of discrimination were submitted to them from August to 28 December 2014.

    That is 48 more than the 136 grievances received by Kick it Out in the same period during the 2013-14 season.

    Tributes have been paid to former Tottenham, Derby, Hearts and Scotland midfielder Dave Mackay who has died, aged 80.

    The Edinburgh-born player won 10 major honours as a player in British and European football as well as 22 caps for his country and was named 'Footballer of the Year' in both Scotland and England.

    He later managed Nottingham Forest before succeeding Brian Clough at Derby and leading the Rams to the First Division crown in 1975.

    First, some of the stories you may have missed last night and Sunderland midfielder Adam Johnson, 27, has been released on bail after he was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under 16.

    The England international was questioned by police on Monday following the allegation involving a girl who is believed to be 15 years old.

    He has been suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
