    Celtic have been given permission by Glasgow City Council to install "safe standing" at Celtic Park.

    The Scottish Premiership champions are proposing to install a rail seating area for 2600 fans, potentially ahead of the 2016/17 season.

    "Across football globally, the reality is that some supporters are choosing to stand at matches," said Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell. "This is something we must accept and manage and also understand the positive effect which these areas have on atmosphere at matches."

    A small but enthusiastic crowd gathering at the picturesque figure-of-eight track in the heart of the Sussex countryside for the Summer Festival meeting, where there are seven races, the first of which is at 14:10 BST.

    Not as much to see as for the Ladies Evening and the legendary best dressed lady competition, which takes place in August, and the weather is a little breezy, but still a lovely spot.

    Veteran Charlie Shreck was the pick of the Leicestershire attack, finishing with figures of 4-67 from 23 overs.

    With Steve McClaren favourite for the Newcastle job, the West Ham fixture will be eagerly anticipated as the former England managed woul be pitted against his old nemesis Slaven Bilic.

    Bilic's Croatia beat England home and away in Euro 2008 qualification, with their 3-2 win at Wembley leading to McClarens' sacking and the iconic "wally with a brolly" pictures.

    • Former West Ham, Everton and Hajduk Split defender

    • Won 44 caps for Croatia, playing at Euro '96 and the 1998 World Cup

    • As Croatia manager his side qualified for Euro 2008 and went on to reach the quarterfinals.

    • They beat England home and away in qualifying for the tournament, inflicting a first loss at the new Wembley for England

    • Failed to reach the 2010 World Cup but qualified for Euro 2012, exiting at the group stage

    • Also managed Lokomotiv Moscow and Beskitas, who he left in May

    Slaven Bilic will become the 15th full-time manager in the West Ham's 120-year history, subject to a work permit being granted.

    "He becomes the second Croatian to manage in the Barclays Premier League, and has an outstanding career win percentage of 55.16%," read a club statement.

    Slaven Bilic has been confirmed as the new manager of West Ham.

    The Croat spent 18 months with the club as a player and last month left his role as Besiktas coach after they finished third in the Turkish top flight.

    The 46-year-old has also coached Hajduk Split, Croatia and Lokomotiv Moscow.
