Wow. Incredible running by Libby Clegg, who runs the race of her life to break the world record in her T11 category with a time of 11.91 seconds to reach the final.

It has left the BBC Radio 5 Live commentary team struggling for superlatives.

"The ball is in her court, she's going into the final as the world record holder," says Allison Curbishley. "Her and Chris just need to do this one more time in tonight's final."

Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott could barely bring themselves to watch the final heat of the 1000m time trial, knowing there was nothing more they could do.

Arms around one another they looked at the ground only to look up during the final few meters of the Dutch riders run and cue wild celebrations from the British women when they realised they were the champions.

"I can't believe it - gold is something I've dreamt of for so long and we have it," Thornhill said. "The worlds [where they finished second] made us even more fired up and motivated than ever and to win with your best mate is an amazing feeling."

Scott, who finished with silver and bronze medals alongside Aileen McGlynn at London 2012, added: "To complete the set is amazing."

Conte said. "I told you that this transfer market was very difficult for us to reach our targets, but at the last minute, on the last day, there was this situation which was good for me and the club to improve the squad.
