  4. New signing Norman starts for 49erspublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

San Francisco 49ers 0-0 Philadelphia Eagles

Former All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman has started for the 49ers after joining them on a one-year deal just before the season started.

The 49ers were already thin at the position before losing Jason Verrett to a torn ACL in last week's win over Detroit and Emmanuel Moseley has been listed as inactive due to a knee injury that also kept him out in week one.

Norman, 33, has played nine seasons in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers (2012-15), Washington Football Team (2016-19) and Buffalo Bills (2020).

  5. touchdown

Bills Touchdownpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

    Buffalo Bills 7-0 Miami Dolphins

That can't stop Devin Singletary in Miami as the Bills running back rumbles 46 yards for the opening score of the game. Buffalo have a great recent record against the Dolphins and have started how they left off last season.

  6. touchdown

Panthers Touchdownpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

New Orleans Saints 0-7 Carolina Panthers

If you had Brandon Zylstra down as the first TD scorer of this Sunday then, well, you're a bit mad, but you're right!

Sam Darnold fired a 20-yard strike to the wide-open wide receiver and the Panthers take an early lead against the Saints on their opening drive.

And the early games are under way...

Jimmy G has started for the 49ers, but the Eagles have forced them to go three-and-out on the opening possession in Philadelphia.

  8. 49ers face Eagles in main game from early kick-offspublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles (18:00 BST)

There was talk of the San Francisco 49ers running a two-quarterback system this season, and they brought in rookie Trey Lance during the first quarter last week to throw for a touchdown with his very first NFL pass.

That proved to be his one and only pass of the day as Jimmy Garoppolo came back in to steer the 49ers to victory over the Detroit Lions.

This week we'll be focusing on their game with the Philadelphia Eagles, who enjoyed a comfortable win over the Atlanta Falcons last week with second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts now their starter.

Here are his and Jimmy G's stats from week one...

  10. Landmark game for Carroll, maybe Wilson toopublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

Tennessee Titans @ Seattle Seahawks (21:25 BST)

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will become the fourth man to take charge of a team in an NFL game aged 70 or over when they host the Titans later.

Carroll's quarterback Russell Wilson can become just the second QB in NFL history to record 100 regular season wins in his first 10 seasons. Only Peyton Manning has managed it so far (105 wins in first 10 seasons).

Wilson had his 11th game with four TDs and zero interceptions last week, and that's an NFL record for a QB's first 10 seasons as he's beaten Manning, Tom Brady AND Aaron Rodgers.

  11. More records for Bradypublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21:05 BST)

Tampa Bay beat Kansas City in last season's Super Bowl and have now won nine straight games, with the last eight seeing them score 30-plus points each game.

Only two other teams in NFL history have won eight consecutive games scoring 30 points or more - and both of them had Tom Brady at QB (Patriots of 2007 & 2010).

Brady needs 417 yards to join Drew Brees as the only players to reach 80,000 passing yards.

Last week was Brady's 300th regular season start, his 100th career game with 300 passing yards and his 40th career comeback in the fourth quarter.

  12. 'Mayfield can't take his team to the next level, Mahomes can'published at 17:56 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

Cleveland Browns 29-33 Kansas City Chiefs

Osi Umenyiora felt last week's thriller between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns showed the difference between young quarterback stars Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield will aim to bounce back as the Browns host the Houston Texans today, while the Chiefs have a mouth-watering game at the Baltimore Ravens (01:20 BST).

  13. Can 0-2 teams win the Super Bowl?published at 17:54 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

The Lombardi trophyImage source, Getty Images

It's only early in the season, but there are some big teams who will be desperate not to slip to 0-2 tonight, as it greatly reduces your chances of going all the way.

Just THREE teams in the last 30 years have started 0-2 and gone on to win the Super Bowl - and all three of those had major reasons why and minor miracles to get them there.

Nine teams have started 1-1 and lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

In terms of making the play-offs then statistically it's important not to go 0-2 - here's the percentage of teams that made the post-season after their respective starts in the last 30 years.

That one game makes a big difference...

    • 2-0 (62.7%)
    • 1-1 (41.6 %)
    • 0-2 (11.6%)

Big names on 0-1 from last week: Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys.

  15. Week two opener - Washington win at the deathpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

New York Giants 29-30 Washington Football Team

Week two kicked off with Thursday Night Football and saw another game go down to the wire, with Dustin Hopkins kicking a 43-yard field goal with no time remaining to give the Washington Football Team victory over the New York Giants.

Hopkins first missed wide right from 48 yards, but the Giants' Dexter Lawrence was called offside to give the kicker a second chance, from which he made no mistake as Washington (1-1) ended a run of five straight losses to their divisional rivals, the Giants (0-2).

  16. Why are divisional games so important?published at 17:47 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

For any of you NFL newbies out there, the league's 32 teams are split into two Conferences (AFC and NFC), with each Conference split into four divisions of four.

Each team plays their three divisional rivals twice a season, and the winner of each division at the end of the regular season (17 games) is guaranteed a play-off spot.

So beating one of your divisional rivals doesn't just mean you boost your win column, it nudges your opponents a step closer to missing out on the post-season.

  17. Rookie QBs go head-to-headpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

New England Patriots @ New York Jets (18:00 BST)

Five quarterbacks were selected in the first round of this year's draft and all saw game time in week one.

Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), Zach Wilson (New York Jets) and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) all started but suffered defeat.

BBC pundits Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora felt Jones had the most impressive debut, and he goes up against fellow rookie Wilson today.

That's one of two divisional match-ups in the AFC East today, with the Buffalo Bills also visiting the Miami Dolphins.

  20. Week one highlightspublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 19 September 2021

The game of the day last Sunday saw the Kansas City Chiefs, aiming to reach a third straight Super Bowl, fight back to beat the Cleveland Browns, who are expected to be one of their rivals for the AFC Conference title.

Last year's number one draft pick Joe Burrow marked his return from injury by leading the Cincinnati Bengals to an overtime win over the Minnesota Vikings.

The New Orleans Saints stunned the Green Bay Packers and last season's MVP Aaron Rodgers by romping to a 38-3 victory.

And Kyler Murray was in scintillating form as the Arizona Cardinals quarterback rushed for one touchdown and threw for four more, with team-mate Chandler Jones claiming a whopping five sacks all on his own in a 38-13 win over the Tennessee Titans.
