Philadelphia Eagles Haason Reddick speaking to Fox: "We knew what this game meant, they were our opponents in our way to get to the Super Bowl. We played a complete game in all phases, got the job done and we are on our way to the Super Bowl.

"It means everything to me, it took me a long time to get to the play-offs, I have come home and I can't put in words how much it means to me.

"We are on a mission, it starts with belief in each other, everyone who comes through the door believes in in ourselves."

The Chiefs and the Eagles had the best records in the NFL (14-3) to secure the top seed in each Conference and a bye for week one of the play-offs. The Jacksonville Jaguars made a fist of it at Arrowhead during the divisional round and although Patrick Mahomes missed most of the second quarter because of an ankle injury, he returned to steer Kansas City to a 27-20 victory.

After finishing the season with a 12-4 record to win the AFC North, the Bengals ground out a 24-17 win at home to the Baltimore Ravens on wildcard weekend. They then travelled to a snowy Buffalo during the divisional round and enjoyed a dominant 27-10 win over the Bills to dump out the pre-season Super Bowl favourites and set up a repeat of last season's AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead.

Despite losing star receiver Tyreek Hill to Miami, the Kansas City Chiefs continued to dominate the AFC West this season, winning the division for a seventh straight year and claiming the AFC's top seed with a 14-3 record.

They brought in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to fill the void and they've both chipped in as Patrick Mahomes spread the load. Travis Kelce remains his go-to man, though, with the tight end claiming a whopping 1,338 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns.

Mahomes led the NFL with 41 touchdown passes and a career-high 5,250 passing yards this season and is the favourite to be named Most Valuable Player for a second time. But he gave the Chiefs a scare as he picked up an ankle injury last week and although he's practiced this week, will it stand up to the rigours of an AFC Championship Game?

  8. 'We have a special group of guys'published at 23:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-31 Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie: "Feels great we have got a special group of guys all lead by Nick [Sirianni] Howie [Roseman] and Don [Somlenski], it is so special because they are quietly confident they are always team oriented and very humble and they grind."

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni: "This defence just keeps coming to work every day and killing it. This is the most physical defence in this league. Jonathan Gannon did a wonderful job and the whole defence did a wonderful job."

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts: "It has been a lot, this is not about me - this city is special. It deserves everything going on and we got one more."

  9. Chilly one forecast in Kansas Citypublished at 23:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

Cincinnati Bengals @ Kansas City Chiefs (23:30 GMT)

The Bengals had to contend with snow at Buffalo last week, and they did pretty well to be fair.

And it's going to be another chilly one at Kansas City tonight. The temperature at kick-off (17:30 local time) is forecast to be about -8 degrees.

  10. Cincy's new swaggerpublished at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

Cincinnati Bengals @ Kansas City Chiefs (23:30 GMT)

The Bengals were a plucky side making a late play-off run last season, this time they're the defending AFC champs marching into Arrowhead with a Joe Burrow-led swagger.

They're also won 10 straight games, Burrow has won 13 straight starts in December and January, and top target Ja'Marr Chase loves playing the Chiefs.

Chase is averaging 139 yards per game against Kansas City with four TDs - including three in one game last season - so the Chiefs will have a special plan for him tonight.

The Bengals renaming the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium as "Burrowhead" has not gone unnoticed in Kansas City.

Joe Burrow is 3-0 against the Chiefs though, and the Bengals are also 3-0 in AFC Championship games, so they've got form.

Recent history also suggests that if a team wins the regular season game, they're more likely to win the Championship game rematch - with a 10-3 record over the last few years.

The Eagles had the steadiest ride, Minnesota impressed going 13-4. But look at the Eagles division, three out of the four teams made the play-offs.

I will say they had a bit of an easy run in the play-offs though, with the Giants coming in and the 49ers not having a quarterback.

Well, not quite the contest we expected as the 49ers were just torn apart by injuries early in the game, then penalties later on really costing them.

Despite losing two more QBs to injury, they were still well in the game until 80 seconds just before half-time when two quick TDs effectively put the game to bed.

San Francisco's defence was still fierce and tough, but with nobody to lead them on offence it was always an uphill battle and a nightmare way for their season to end.

But for Philly, they're off to Arizona for their fourth Super Bowl, but who will they face?

Taking the knee at the end of the NFC Championship game is a pretty sweet feeling and these Philly fans are starting to really celebrate now.

Gardner Minshew touches his knee down to the turf one last time and there we have it!

San Francisco 49ers 7-28 Philadelphia Eagles

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a mountain too high to climb with everything that has happened to the 49ers. But they were sitting there at 7-7 and they let in a touchdown, then the turnover happened and the Eagles punched in another one and the game was blown wide open.

  16. Turnoverpublished at 23:02 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-31 Philadelphia Eagles

The 49ers go for another fourth down, but it's just not their night so naturally enough the play is blown up and Philly take over - with back-up QB Gardner Minshew now in the game as they save Jalen Hurts for the Super Bowl.

What San Francisco would give to just be playing their first back-up!

San Francisco 49ers 7-31 Philadelphia Eagles

And after all that, Philadelphia's K'Von Wallace and San Francisco's Trent Williams are thrown out of the game for their parts in that melee and they'll be receiving a letter from commissioner Roger Goodell with rather a hefty fine attached for that.

  18. Bench clearers!published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-31 Philadelphia Eagles

Uh oh - here we go! The 49ers have reached breaking point, with a couple of scrums after the whistle taking place, it's largely handbags until big Trent Williams just marches in and slams a Philly player down to the turf, and he could be out of here after that!

Both benches get almost cleared too as players race on from the sidelines..

  19. Throw CMC!published at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-31 Philadelphia Eagles

Christian McCaffrey is known as 'Run CMC' around the league, but he's 'throw CMC' as he's put in at QB in the wildcat formation, but ends up slinging a pass deep to nobody in particular.

At least he can throw it though, unlike poor Brock Purdy who is still only able to pitch the ball out to his running backs.

Jake Elliott sends a 31-yard field goal over to increase the lead and the party has already started in the stands as Philadelphia fans start the 'Super Bowl' chant and the 49ers players on the sidelines have that resigned look on their faces...
