Martin: Feel this is an Eagles night, even before all these San Francisco injuries.

SaintStarDevil: Momentum, injuries, crowd, what a corner the 49'ers have been backed into. Everything pointing towards the Eagles here.

  2. Pundits full of praise for CMCpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Greg Olsen, former NFL tight end, on Fox Sports: “You’re on your fourth-string quarterback, you need your stars to show up and Christian McCaffrey has just put the team on his back on this drive.”

Former NFL cornerback Jason Bell on Sky Sports: "It's time for your stars to step up. Christian McCaffrey - you brought him into this team for a reason. You know he will deliver because that's what he is there for. When it counts you come back to him and what does he do? Makes people miss, runs through tackles."

  3. 'McCaffrey did a bit of everything'published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Kurt Warner on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: That is what you bring him in for, he did a bit of everything. He hurdled one defender, made another one miss and broke a tackle on his way to the endzone.

    Touchdown - 49erspublished at 21:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 7-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Wow! What did we just say about Christian McCaffrey? He looked like he was being brought down right at the line, but he bounced off a tackle, burrowed through another then ran away into the end zone!

The former Carolina Panther jumped over a tackle at the line, was hammered after five yards but would just not be denied, as he galloped away for a 23-yard score.

  5. Still no Purdypublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

This could be the Christian McCaffrey show from now on, with maybe a decent dose of Deebo Samuel in there as well, as the Niners can't really afford to give Johnson too much to do.

McCaffrey and Samuel are two of the most explosive players in the league though so if they can get them the ball as often as possible then we could have a game on.

Nick Bosa who was injured once in a play on the field and once where he was on the sideline. He is a bit hobbled but he almost got that safety in the endzone and it would have been a 7-2 game.

The 49ers have to score defensively.

  7. Hurts vital for Eaglespublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Greg Olsen, former NFL tight end, on Fox Sports: “There’s a lot of good players on this Philly offence, but the whole offence is built around Jalen Hurts. There’s no doubt about that.”

  8. Almost a safety!published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Almost, almost my favourite play in the game and that's a safety as Nick Bosa just ploughs into Jalen Hurts, actually tackles him in the end zone but the QB just manages to fall at the one-yard line and avoid giving away two points.

And with Josh Johnson in at QB San Fran's best chance of scoring may be with their defence.

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live

How many points can the 49ers score now? Are they going to win 17-14, 14-10? It is a huge ask of the San Francisco defence to keep it close at the moment.

  11. Nothing for the Ninerspublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

San Fran have to kick it away after they want backwards there with a sack and delay of game penalty.

The punt at least backs Philly up inside their own 10, and they're still well in this game because of their defence, but Kyle Shanahan will have to figure out how to get something moving with his fourth QB at some point.

Another delay of game on San Fran and back-up to the back-up Josh Johnson, as the 36-year-old just tries to settle into the game.

Johnson, who has had more clubs the Jack Nicklaus, has been thrown in at the deepest of deep ends here in what is his third spell with the Niners.

  14. Eagles puntpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Hurts had AJ Brown open for a huge gain but he just overthrows his receiver and the Eagles have to punt it away - and that's where the controversy starts!

Philly claim the ball hit the wire of the spider cam and went out of bounds quite short, while the Eagles also got flagged for a penalty, but the refs can't find a TV replay to prove conclusively if it did hit the wire to the 49ers get the ball at midfield.

That's gone down well with the home fans as you'd expect.

  15. 'The plan is out of the window'published at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Greg Olsen, former NFL tight end, on Fox Sports: “The entire framework and plan is out the window. The 49ers need to turn this into a low-scoring, low possession game until they know if Brock Purdy can make it back.”

  16. Reddick wrecking ballpublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Former NFL cornerback Jason Bell on Sky Sports: "Haason Reddick is wrecking this game, coming off the edge, causing the [Purdy] injury."

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

    Greg Brady

If you are a 49ers fan aside from stopping that second drive is there anything more that could go wrong in an NFC title game on the road? But they are still only 7-0 down.

  18. ouch!

Bosa down!published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Oh dear, now NFL sack leader Nick Bosa is down and getting treatment on his leg and if he's out then that would be another blow for a team that is reeling now after this horror start.

  19. Reddick dominatingpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Greg Olsen, former NFL tight end, on Fox Sports: “I think the 49ers gameplan of trying to block Haason Reddick with anything other than a tackle needs to go out of the window right now.”

  20. '49ers leaders need to step up'published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2023

San Francisco 49ers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Greg Olsen, former NFL tight end, on Fox Sports: “There are leaders for the 49ers. McCaffrey, Deebo and others. Right now they are saying ‘we need to shoulder more of this load and take as much pressure off Josh Johnson as possible’.”
