I enjoy these strategic battles and these kind of races, yes it's difficult to overtake it but the pit-walls are working overtime.

It's looking like Lando Norris is on a belter of a strategy, can he eek out that tyre life? He's just gone green green, green with the fastest lap of the race.

    Lap 36/70

Two seconds is the advantage in the hand of Charles Leclerc out in front but what can Lando Norris do from fourth? He can set a fastest lap on his fresh hard compound, that's for sure.

Mercedes are giving George Russell a pep talk, telling him his pace is looking really good. The purple stopwatch proves it, as he's clocking consistent fastest laps.

Oscar Piastri is having a chat about tyres with his engineer. If a window opens up and he can pit again, go for more hard running.

David: Hamilton hasn’t got an ability issue or even a car issue. The talent is still there. What he has got right now is a mentality issue. Ferrari don’t know how to handle that.

Ian: Who would have thought we would be watching Lewis and Max fight for 11th!

  9. 'Norris looking very strong for the end of the race'published at 14:48 British Summer Time

    Sam Bird
Formula E driver on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I do think this could work out very nicely for Lando Norris right now. If he's able to do the one-stop, he's looking very very strong for the end of the race.

  10. Norris pitspublished at 14:47 British Summer Time

    Lap 32/70

The one-stop strategy is the way to go for Lando Norris as McLaren make the switch from mediums to the hards for the rest of this grand prix. He rejoins the action in fourth place.

Meanwhile, the stewards have noted that Turn Four incident between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

  11. Postpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time

    Lap 31/70

George Russell is banking the fastest laps on his 11-lap old hard tyres. The Mercedes has found a way past Fernando Alonso, who returns to his starting fifth place in the Aston Martin.

The pit lane has a visitor - and it's Lando Norris.

Lewis Hamilton will be very very disgruntled with that move [from Max Verstappen].

  13. Hamilton down to P12published at 14:44 British Summer Time

    Lap 29/70

Charles Leclerc sounds a bit frantic on the Ferrari radio. He thinks he doesn't have the pace to secure the race victory. His team-mate Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, is scrapping with Max Verstappen. He runs wide off the track and is now in 12th place, with the Dutchman taking his 11th spot.

If Lando Norris pulls that off it could be a race-winning strategy.

McLaren calling. It's Lando Norris' engineer, who asks the Briton does he fancy about 40 laps on the hard tyres? "Yeah, go on," says Norris.

  16. 'Hamilton has got to stay out there'published at 14:42 British Summer Time

    Sam Bird
Formula E driver on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Lewis Hamilton started on the hard tyre so he's got to stay out there.

That's the problem with starting on the hard tyres here, you have to play the long game, you can't go to the undercut.

  17. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time

    Lap 27/70

Still Lando Norris continues on his 26-lap old medium tyres. Charles Leclerc is six seconds behind and is on the Ferrari team radio, giving his pit wall a cryptic message about set-up maybe? We'll probably find out after the race.

  18. Postpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time

    Lap 26/70

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are both out of the points as it stands. The Red Bull man, in 12th, has pitted, Hamilton in 11th hasn't. And now the seven-time world champion is telling his pit wall he's a "sitting duck".

  19. Postpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time

    Lap 25/70

Lando Norris is nine seconds ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc but that advantage will disaapear when McLaren call in the Briton for a change of tyres. George Russell is trying to get closer to the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso. The Mercedes is all over the back of the Spaniard, and there is contact, but Russell can't get through.

  20. 'That was a bold attempt from McLaren'published at 14:38 British Summer Time

    Andrew Benson
BBC F1 correspondent at the Hungaroring

I don't really know why McLaren did that, that was a very bold attempt to undercut Charles Leclerc.

The gap was too big and I think you would really want it within two seconds to have a chance.

You could see that Leclerc had quite a big gap when he came out of the pits, and McLaren were not under any undercut threat from George Russell.
