  2. Lunch in Leedspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Yorkshire 433-5 v Derbyshire

Lunchtime now in all our seven matches - so we shall try to take a short break.

Yorkshire and Derbyshire are the last to head for their nosebag, with the Tykes on 433-5 - of which England's Harry Brook has so far made 123.

  3. 'Not exciting but Burns has been effective'published at 13:14 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 208-6 v Hampshire 151

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Rory Burns has played superbly. He's played the conditions and hasn't looked in too much trouble. There's been one or two edges but you'd expect that.

He's been the perfect batter for these conditions. A lot would have perished by now. But he has a technique that's the minimum effort. He plays within himself, doesn't try and do anything he can't. Don't try and drive on the up and don't take it on because you're going to come a cropper.

It's not particularly exciting to watch and I'm sure when he's batting out there in the middle he must bore himself. There's no booming drives, no hooks. But it's about scoring runs and getting your team in a good position.

It must be frustrating for the Hampshire bowlers bowling at him because they know they should be bowling Surrey out by now but actually he's keeping them out in the field and there's nothing worse.

  4. wicket

WICKET: Hill b Tickner 9published at 13:10 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Yorkshire 431-5 v Derbyshire

Yorkshire lose a fifth wicket in Leeds as Blair Tickner does for George Hill.

Harry Brook is apporaching the late lunch (as a result of yesterday's early finish) on 123.

  5. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Durham 358 v Essex 97-2

That's it for the morning session, with Dean Elgar and Sam Cook adding 64 for the first wicket before both departed to Matthew Potts and Paul Coughlin respectively.

Feroze Khushi, with 15, and Nick Browne, who has a couple against his name, are the not-out pair and Essex trail Durham by 261.

  6. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 209-6 v Hampshire 151

A brief scare for Rory Burns in the final over before the interval as he shuffles across to Mohammad Abbas and is struck on the pad, but height probably scuppered the Hampshire bowler's hopeful appeal.

Burns goes to lunch on 87, with Cameron Steel at the other end on 14 - and it's been very much Surrey's morning, with just one wicket going down and their lead standing at 58.

  7. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Notts 400, Warwickshire 17-1

As expected, lunchtime has now officially come in Birmingham, following the break for bad light.

But you would imagine that the queue for the prize Bears fish and chips in the Tom Dollery Suite had long since been forming.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Elgar c Robinson b Potts 46published at 12:54 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Durham 358 v Essex 94-2

Matthew Potts does the trick for Durham!

They needed that wicket badly before the lunch interval - and Dean Elgar is the man they wanted to see heading back to the dressing room early.

The Essex opener prods at a ball outside off stump and feathers it to Ollie Robinson, bringing Nick Browne to the crease.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Root b Chappell 119published at 12:54 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Yorkshire 406-4 v Derbyshire

Yorkshire lose their first wicket of the day against Derbyshire at Headingley.

After putting on a further 132 runs in tandem with Harry Brook this morning, the former England captain is bowled by Zak Chappell for 119.

Fellow centurion Brook, having been joined by new man George Hill, quickly moves past him to reach 121.

  10. 'Burns has taken heat out of the game'published at 12:53 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 204-6 v Hampshire 151

    Dan Whiting
    BBC Radio London

This is a proper vigil from Rory Burns, he's batted really well.

He's been circumspect in his approach and he's drawn the sting out of the Hampshire attack.

Their tails were up yesterday, 44-4, they were buzzing and Rory Burns has taken a little bit of heat out of the game with the way that he has batted.

  11. Early lunch at Chester Roadpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 14-0

After no play this morning in rain-hit Kidderminster, lunch is now being taken.

"Still bad light and drizzle" , says BBC Hereford & Worcester's man at Chester Road today, Chris Williams.

  12. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Durham 358 v Essex 91-1

Matthew Potts is back on for another spell before lunch as Durham strive to make further inroads into this Essex batting line-up.

Potts' first delivery was dispatched to the boundary by Feroze Khushi, who moves into double figures on 12, while Dean Elgar has dropped anchor five short of his half-century.

  13. 'Hampshire will be disappointed with just one wicket'published at 12:45 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 201-6 v Hampshire 151

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent

Overall in these conditions Hampshire will be disappointed that they've only picked up one wicket.

It's an old ball. From that point of view, they haven't had a really hard ball to bowl to really put pressure on.

But I still think that the amount of time that we have played, they really should have picked up more than one wicket.

  14. 6 runs

Six for Joe Rootpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Yorkshire 400-3 v Derbyshire

Joe Root hits the first six of his innings - a 'reverse scoop' - as Yorkshire reach 400.

Not one for the purists who see these sort of lapses into Bazball mode as effectively taking the you-know-what out of the bowler.

But it has helped earn the Tykes a fourth batting bonus point - and he and fellow centurion Harry Broook have another 24 overs to get a fifth too.

  15. Postpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 201-6 v Hampshire 151

So far, the wicket of Kemar Roach remains Hampshire's only success this morning, although they haven't bowled badly at all.

Rory Burns is motoring on towards three figures, though - he needs another 15 while Cameron Steel has eight so far and the Surrey lead is now exactly 50.

  16. 'Shame to put good contest on hold'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Notts 400, Warwickshire 17-1

    Brian Halford
    BBC Radio WM and CWR

It's a real shame that we've had to come off because of bad light.

We've had such good cricket. But you can obviously see the safety issue.

It was such a fantastic contest but unfortunately it's been put on hold.

  17. Painful blow for Khushipublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Durham 358 v Essex 82-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Feroze Khushi's introduction to this match didn't come until the 19th over. The opener stayed in the pavilion last night as Essex faced two overs at the end of day one.

And nightwatchman Sam Cook did his bit. He faced 53 balls and had 25 runs to his name when he was bowled, leg stump, by Paul Coughlin. The opening stand with Dean Elgar was worth 64.

So that brought Khushi to the middle and he was soon in bother. A Brydon Carse delivery looked to have been dropped by keeper Ollie Robinson when he was on one. It was clipped down the leg side.

Moments later he took a nasty blow to the lower back as he turned away from a short delivery from Carse. It was also a no ball. And it meant a five-minute delay while he received treatment from the physio.

  18. 100 runs

Century for Harry Brookpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Yorkshire 387-3 v Derbyshire

Harry Brook quickly follows Joe Root to his hundred with a push into the covers.

His ton - his 13th in first-class cricket - has come from 102 deliveries, with 15 fours and a big six yesterday.

An emotional second ton in successive home games since the death this winter of his grandmother.

"He raises his bat and looks up to the heavens and we think we probably know why," says BBC Radio Leeds' Jonathan Doidge. "Super stuff from him once again. Lucky for us that we were here to see it."

  19. wicket

WICKET: Roach c Brown b Wheal 19published at 12:27 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Surrey 185-6 v Hampshire 151

Finally, a sigh of relief among the Hampshire ranks as Brad Wheal strikes.

They won't have anticipated taking around an hour and three quarters to claim the wicket of Kemar Roach, but finally the West Indies paceman nibbles outside off stump and Ben Brown gathers the catch.

But that stand of 66 with Rory Burns has earned Surrey a handy lead and new batter Cameron Steel will be aiming to extend that further.

  20. Bad light stops play at Edgbastonpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 27 April 2024

    Notts 400, Warwickshire 17-1

The clouds had been gathering in Birmingham.

And they have now come off for bad light.

A shame as the cricket had been compelling.

The Bears top order had not looked at all comfortable against a former Pear Dillon Pennington and a former Bear Olly Stone.

And Rob Yates and Will Rhodes may well be glad to have got back to the sanctuary of the pavilion.
