    Jonathan Doidge

It was almost inevitable that Joe Root was going to get to his century.

Serene progress throughout, He has not given a chance, picked up the ones and twos as he does and played some magnificent shots.

It's come in 233 minutes, off 163 balls.

    What a player.

  2. 50 partnership for Burns and Roachpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 170-5 v Hampshire

In what looks likely to be a low-scoring game, this partnership could prove invaluable.

Rory Burns and Kemar Roach have now extended their stand to 51 and Hampshire's frustration is increasing.

They haven't had many chances to take that sixth wicket this morning, although Roach got away with a drive off Brad Wheal that the diving mid-off fielder was unable to cling on to.

    Yorkshire 356-3 v Derbyshire

    Jonathan Doidge

  6. wicket

WICKET: Cook b Coughlin 25published at 12:09 British Summer Time 27 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 64-1

OK, Little Chef is off the menu as Durham do make that breakthrough!

Sam Cook's off stump is lying horizontal as he plays on to Paul Coughlin and the partnership of 64 comes to an end.

Feroze Khushi emerges to join Dean Elgar in the middle.

  7. 50 partnership for Elgar and Cookpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 27 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 55-0

Essex fans are used to seeing the name Cook as part of a productive opening partnership at the top of the order, but they might not have anticipated Sam - or 'Little Chef' as he was known during the career of his namesake Alastair - sharing a 50 stand with Dean Elgar.

However, that's exactly what's happened this morning, with Elgar stroking Paul Coughlin to the boundary to bring up the visitors' 50 just now.

The left-hander is on 30, while Cook has 20 to his name and Durham are searching in vain for a breakthrough.

  8. 'Burns has not played a shot'published at 11:56 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 154-5 v Hampshire 151

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Rory Burns has not played a shot during that innings.

But in the context of this game he's been very effective.

  9. 'It's looking a little gloomy'published at 11:56 British Summer Time 27 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 45-0

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There's just a gentle breeze here and we've got a big bank of cloud sitting right over us.

Our windows are tinted but it does look a little gloomy out there.

I'm just wondering if there might be some discussion at some point about floodlights perhaps.

  10. wicket

Notts all out for 400published at 11:49 British Summer Time 27 April

    Pennington c Hasan Ali b Hannon-Dalby 17

The end when it came for Notts was sooner.

The loss of double centurion Ben Duckett for 218 is followed just four balls later by Dillon Pennington holing out to Hasan Ali.

It earns Olly Hannon-Dalby yet another five-wicket haul. His 11th for the Bears in first-class cricket - all of them since 2019.

"Ben Duckett has been an absolute giant for Notts," said BBC Sport's Mel Farrell at Edgbaston. "To be able to shore up the batting the way he has, to be able to get them to 400. I'm almost disappointed for him that he didn't get to carry his bat but he really has been the main stay. Something very specia.

"Let's hope the rain stays away because Warwickshire's top three are in form at the moment and they might fancy their chances of really taking this on."

  11. Surrey take the lead against Hampshirepublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 152-5 v Hampshire 151

Surrey will be more than satisfied to overtake their visitors' total at five down, especially with nightwatchman Kemar Roach still going strong.

Roach turns Mohammad Abbas off his hips for the single that takes Surrey past the Hampshire score and he has 11 so far, with Rory Burns on 56 at the other end.

  12. wicket

    Notts 400-9 v Warwickshire

    Dan Mousley does the trick.

    Third ball too.

Ben Duckett attempts a reverse sweep and he is bowled for 218.

422 minutes. 264 balls. 25 fours and a pull for six this morning off Olly Hannon-Dalby.

Dane Paterson is the new man in. He doesn't normally hang about.

Now can OHD wrap up the innings?

  13. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 27 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 38-0

Still no joy for Durham's opening bowlers this morning, although they've begun in solid fashion.

Nightwatchman Sam Cook is starting to play some shots and he's on 12, with Dean Elgar reaching 22 as Essex make inroads on their hosts' score of 358.

  14. Notts get to 400published at 11:40 British Summer Time 27 April

    Notts 400-8 v Warwickshire

Notts claim their fourth batting point in the 99th over at Edgbaston.

Ben Duckett has moved on to 218, with Dillon Pennington on 17.

At this point, Bears skipper Al Davies opt to introduce an eighth bowler, occasional spinner Dan Mousley.

Can he succeed against Duckett where the seven others have failed?

  15. Half-century for Rory Burnspublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 143-5 v Hampshire 151

Rory Burns has been patient this morning, but he's finally registered his 50 - for the third consecutive game.

The Surrey captain gets there from 135 balls, after pushing Mohammad Abbas for a single on the off side.

Kemar Roach is looking assured at the other end - the nightwatchman now has eight to his name as Surrey move within single figures of that Hampshire total.

"Rory Burns has done a real good job for his team," said BBC Radio London's Dan Whiting. "He's drawn the sting out of this Hampshire attack. It's a really good 50. A solid knock from the Surrey skipper."

  16. Third batting point for Tykespublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 27 April

    Yorkshire 302-3 v Derbyshire

England duo Joe Root and Harry Brook pick up where they left off as Yorkshire plough on against Derbyshire at Headingley.

Root is on 76 and Brook has gone to his half-century on 59.

  17. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 27 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 15-0

A few nervous moments for the Essex batting duo so far this morning, with Dean Elgar almost cut in half by a beauty from Matt Potts that jagged back, while nightwatchman Sam Cook has done a fair bit of playing and missing.

Elgar has nine to his name so far, with Cook on six.

  18. 'It's not cricket weather yet'published at 11:20 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 130-5 v Hampshire 151

    Dan Whiting
    BBC Radio London

It's a rather dank and dismal morning here at The Oval this morning.

The skies are a battle ship grey as Surrey look to respond to Hampshire's 151.

It was a bowlers day yesterday, 15 wickets fell for 270 odd runs.

    It's not cricket weather yet.

  19. 200 runs

Duckett's Double Centurypublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 27 April

    Notts 370-8 v Warwickshire

After turning down several opportunities for a single on 199, as he tries to farm the strike, looking to try and eke out another batting point, Ben Duckett takes a single down to third man to complete his fifth career double century.

Notts' first double centurion since . . . only last Sunday actually, when Joe Clarke plundered one against Somerset at Taunton.

Duckett spoke to BBC Radio Nottingham before play this morning and told Dave Bracegirdle that this he already rates this as the best innings he has had in county cricket, bettered only by his 150 for England in the winter in the third Test in Rajkot.

  20. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 27 April

    Surrey 125-5 v Hampshire 151

Having done his job as nightwatchman, Kemar Roach allows himself the luxury of getting off the mark in the second over of the day, steering Mohammad Abbas for a single through gully.

Fuelled with confidence, Roach also takes an ambitious swish outside off stump and fails to connect. Signs of early swing for Abbas, though, which will be music to Hampshire ears.
