  1. Sri Lanka win toss and bat vs Bangladeshpublished at 03:04 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

We are less than 30 minutes away from the start of the all-Asian clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Pool A. They've just tossed up at the MCG and Sri Lanka have won it. Captain Angelo Mathews chooses to bat first.

  2. Afg 55-2 (Shenwari 2, Ahmadi 39)published at 03:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Wides were a problem for Scotland in their previous game against England and Davey lapses to gift Afghanistan a run. Ahmadi then gets back into the game with a pull shot through midwicket for four. Davey responds well, though, nipping one away and beating Ahmadi's tentative prod forward.

  4. Afg 48-2 (run-rate 4.80, required 4.07)published at 02:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Evans cannot repeat the fireworks of his previous over but it is another tidy effort; a maiden which ties Shenwari at the striker's end. Ahmadi is clearly the danger man and one simple way of dealing with that: keep him off strike and frustrate him. Scotland were 38-1 at this stage.

  5. Afg 48-2 (Shenwari 1, Ahmadi 34)published at 02:54 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Prior to that Evans over, the Scotland attack had tempted out a couple of false shots but had otherwise looked pretty tame as Afghanistan took the game to them. Now, it is the batting side looking nervous as the Scots bounce round in the field. Davey's over goes for a couple of singles, including one that gets the new man Samiullah Shenwari off the mark.

"The instructions from the Afghanistan captain and coach might have changed now. They need these two fellas to take three or four overs to settle in."

"Another good ball by Evans. He is bowling it just outside off stump and has that extra pace and carry. All of a sudden, the Scottish team believe winning is a possibility."

Game on! Asghar Stanikzai replaces Mangal and doesn't waste any time, flashing a drive through cover for four before misjudging the length of the next ball and catching an edge off an awkward flash for keeper Cross to claim. Evans has two in an over and Scotland are rampant.

"Mangal didn't look comfortable. Evans looks to be in more of a rhythm than the other bowlers and had the extra pace. Scotland will be buoyed by that because they needed to make some sort of inroads."

Evans does make the breakthrough! A ball after Mangal had top-edged a shortish ball just short of fine-leg, Evans nips one right through a poor defensive shot and cleans him up. Scotland are up and running.

"All the analysts of the teams still to play Afghanistan will be noting Ahmadi because he's dangerous. You can't give him any width or he'll smash it."

Wardlaw pounds in for another over (his fourth), but he fails to make the breakthrough. His last two balls get the Ahmadi treatment as the opener takes a couple of steps down the track and launches the ball to long-on for four before pulling to the on side boundary. This is looking ominous now. Afghanistan are quickly eating into that Scotland total.

  14. Afg 31-0 (Ahmadi 24, Mangal 6)published at 02:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Cheers Marc. Well, Ahmadi is doing his best impression of another Pudsey man, Len Hutton, here swinging away at everything Scotland have to offer. It is his partner that comes to the fore this over, though. A pummelling drive is stopped just short of the cover boundary by some good Scotland fielding before Evans almost sneaks one past a very shaky defensive shot.

  15. Dropped catchpublished at 02:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Oh no. Nawroz Mangal fences at one outside off stump but Preston Mommsen's fine effort at second slip is not enough and the catch goes to ground. The over ends with Javed Ahmadi clattering another boundary - this is a decent start for the Afghans.

And with that, allow me to hand over the live text baton to Pudsey's finest, Phil Dawkes.

  16. Afg 18-0 (Ahmadi 16, Mangal 1)published at 02:30 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

Javed Ahmadi must have a table booked at Miga Korean BBQ Restaurant tonight. It's the best restaurant in town according to my internet search. The aggressive right-hander gives Josh Davey the charge and belts another four, then when the bowler readjusts his length, cuts another boundary through backward point.

  17. Afg 10-0 (target 211)published at 02:27 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

The tall, muscular Iain Wardlaw, with his side parting blowing in the Dunedin breeze, sends down a bouncer which is too short and called a wide. He then stands and watches in disbelief as Javed Ahmadi walks down the crease and belts four through the covers.

    Will Afghanistan win? Neigh.

Sorry... but it is 2.20am. OK... I'll get my coat.

Josh Davey takes the second new nut for Scotland and slips into a nice rhythm outside off stump fairly quickly. Two from the over.

  20. Afg 1-0 (target 211)published at 02:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2015

How will Afghanistan approach this? Will they be more England or more New Zealand?

It looks like the latter as Iain Wardlaw drops short and Javed Ahmadi throws the kitchen sink but finds the fielder. Just one from the opening over.
