Summary

  • Afghanistan seal historic six-run win

  • Afghanistan 123-7; WI 117-8

  • Windies have won group; Eng runners-up

  • W Indies women beat India to reach semis

  1. WI 41-3 (124 to win)published at 7 overs

There's a few deeply furrowed brows on the West Indies bench now.

The semi-official word is that they need 101 runs to finish above England and top the group. But what about the clean sweep of four from four? Afghanistan are threatening to spoil the party here.

    Former West Indies pace bowler

"Can Afghanistan push through this time? They reduced England to 85-7 but didn't manage to finish the job. Now they have West Indies wobbling."

"Brilliant bowling. The wrong 'un cramped Samuels and he didn't know much about it."

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.1 overs

    Samuels b Rashid 5 (WI 38-3)

Woah. Make that effectively 38-4! Samuels is beaten all ends up, playing at thin air to a brilliant Rashid delivery. Deception of the highest order.

Hang on to your hats here... Are the Windies wobbling?

"Fletcher is walking up the steps very slowly. Effectively West Indies are 34-3."

  6. ouch!

    Ouch!published at 6 overs

Fletcher retired hurt 10 (WI 34-2)

Has Fletcher tweaked his hamstring? It's not looking good for him, he's hobbling off, he's retiring hurt. Denesh Ramdin is in at five. West Indies are effectively 34-3...

"With the field back, Afghanistan can plug the boundaries and let their spinners loose. It's an even game."

  8. WI 34 -2 (Samuels 1 Fletcher 10)published at 6 overs

Very good from Hamid. A wicket and four runs from the over. West Indies only need 90 more from 84 balls left. Afghanistan are through the powerplay overs. But surely this is too much to ask, isn't it?

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.2 overs

    Charles b Hamid 22 (WI 33-2)

Very encouraging indeed! Charles, pretty immobile, chops on to the stumps looking to swipe a rising ball away. Marlon Samuels is next up at four.

Still, only 91 required to win it.

  10. Women's World Twenty20published at 12:38

    West Indies 114-8 v India 1-1 (0.1 overs)

India's women have begun their run chase - the first ball of the innings was a wide, the first legitimate ball saw captain and star player Mithali Raj caught behind!

  11. WI 29-1published at 5 overs

Lovely from Fletcher, easing the ball to the boundary first ball. But that's it for the over as Hamza starts to find a bit of turn. Fletcher swings and misses, then almost plays onto his own wicket and has really no idea how this last ball squirted out square when he looked to be playing straight. Encouraging for Afghanistan.

"Fletcher has expanded his game. He has a lot more scoring options, that's why he looks so much more comfortable at the crease."

  13. WI 25-1published at 4 overs

Hamid has the new man Andre Fletcher beaten all ends up first ball. A trickle of an appeal but nothing doing, maybe they half-thought he'd gloved it? Fletcher has an answer to the next one, pointed square on the leg side for four.

Hamid's no shrinking violet, cranking up the pace again for a tricky yorker that has Fletcher a little flushed. Maybe the adrenaline's pumping a bit too hard now though, as Hamid tosses one over waist height. Fletcher gets a single off the free hit.

  14. Women's World Twenty20published at 12:29

    West Indies 114-8 (20 overs) v India

Remember we told you that West Indies women lost three wickets in the final over against India? Here they are...

  15. WI 17-1 (124 to win)published at 3 overs

And no more from the over from Hamza. He's been very tight indeed so far. A change of bowling down the other end as Hamid Hassan comes in.

"It was a long heave and a brilliant catch from Rashid Khan."

  17. wicket

    Wicketpublished at 2.3 overs

    Lewis c Rashid b Hamza 0 (WI 17-1)

Loose from Evin Lewis. Swatted massively, massively high up into the air, watched calmly down to earth by Rashid. Not much of a debut for the 24-year-old... He only lasted seven balls, and is still waiting for his first international runs.

  18. 6 runs

    Sixpublished at 2 overs

    WI 16-0

That'll do nicely. Johnson Charles picks up the pace with a massive heave as Nabi is smashed long, way over the boundary, 84 metres into the stands. Here's another big one.. and this time he's lucky not to get caught at deep mid-wicket. Take it easy now? Nope, another six. Massive.

Charles is in the mood here, trotting for single to retain strike off the final ball.

  19. Women's World Twenty20published at 12:22

    West Indies 114-9 (20 overs) v India

We've had five wickets in the last three overs, including three in the 20th - and if India can score 115, it will mean England are through to the semi-finals.

  20. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 1 over

    WI 1-0 (124 to win)

Big chance missed early on - third ball in fact as Evin Lewis plays one straight back to Hamza who can't quite gather and pats it down.

Brilliant opening six all the same though - just one off it. More of the same would do the Afghans very nicely indeed...
