    Former West Indies captain

"It was a very good attempt by Ramdin to get his hands to it, and he showed great sportsmanship to immediately say he wasn't sure if he'd grounded the ball. That's the spirit you want to see the game being played in."

  2. Afg 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Great honesty from Denesh Ramdin. He took it well at full stretch, but grassed the ball as he tumbled to the ground.

  3. Third umpirepublished at 0.2 overs

Now, an early test for the third umpire. Ghani's gloved one down the leg side, given out, but Ramdin said he wasn't sure if he caught it cleanly, so the umpires check...

Right, here we go. New man Usman Ghani, just 19 years old, and, ahem, burly wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad trotting out to the middle. Andre Russell has the new rock. Let's get on with it, shall we?

  5. Anthem watchpublished at 10:25

I'm a big fan of the Afghanistan anthem.Hands on hearts, solemn expressions. Good, bouncy melody, a rambling epic of an anthem. Big finish, cymbal clash, tears brimming in eyes. Emotional.

  6. Afghanistan frustratedpublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 27 March 2016

It's been a tournament of 'what might have been' for Afghanistan. They've acquitted themselves creditably, but so far haven't managed the big scalp they'd have had their sights set on. Could today be the day?

They gave South Africa a real fright when they threatened to chase down 210, and then had England 57-6, but couldn't get over the line in either match. But will this game against already-qualified West Indies, without Chris Gayle, present another opportunity?

  7. Windies on a rollpublished at 10:15

It's been an excellent tournament so far for the West Indies, who will top Group 1 if they avoid defeat by an improbably big margin today.

They chased 183 to beat England in the first game, thanks to Chris Gayle's unbeaten century, thrashed Sri Lanka after a superb bowling performance, then scraped over the line in a nervy but ultimately successful pursuit of 123 against South Africa.

With some big, booming batsmen, a very canny array of spinners and medium-pacers and the clever captaincy of Darren Sammy, they will be high on confidence going into the latter stages of this tournament...

    West Indies XI: J Charles, E Lewis, M Samuels, A Fletcher, DJ Bravo, D Ramdin (wk), A Russell, D Sammy (c), C Brathwaite, S Badree, S Benn.

  9. Captain's viewpublished at 10:08

Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai: "Honestly, we wanted to bat first. Last time we lost early wickets and that was a big reason [why we lost]. We hope to play good cricket this time."

He confirms two changes, among them the return of Rambo himself, fast bowler Hamid Hassan...

  10. Captain's viewpublished at 10:07

West Indies captain Darren Sammy: "We won the toss again, and we'll stick to what we've been doing best, no sense to fix what's not broken. We're going to bowl first, we need a clinical performance and hopefully we can better whatever total they set.

"In the two low totals we've been chasing we got stuck after the power-play and lost wickets in clusters, we don’t want that to happen, when you keep losing wickets like that it gives the opposition hope they are still in the game.

"I'm really proud of how we've played and we're not going to take our foot off the gas. There is one change today, Chris is resting and Evin Lewis is making his debut."

  11. West Indies win the tosspublished at 10:05

Darren Sammy calls correctly (I'm told it's a world record for consecutive toss wins) and West Indies are going to do what they've done throughout the tournament...bowl first.

Hello and welcome to live text, TMS and in-play highlights of the World Twenty20.

Later on, we've got an absolute belter for you, a winner-takes-all contest between Australia and India, but first, along with updates of West Indies Women v India Women, it's West Indies v Afghanistan...

  13. In pursuit of perfectionpublished at 10:00

"It's got to be perfect," sang Fairground Attraction.

But perfection is hard. Scoring 10 out of 10 on a maths test? Tricky. Getting that not-too-hard, not-too-runny boiled egg? Always a challenge. Remembering the names of every single relative you've got coming round for Easter? Nigh-on impossible.

Cricket is no different. In fact, no side has ever gone through the World Twenty20 unbeaten. Until, perhaps, now...
