    Pommie Mbangwa
    Former Zimbabwe fast bowler

"Fantastic day at the office for Samuel Badree. He's done the job at the front, stalling the progress of the Afghans. At the halfway point there's only 52 on the board."

  2. Afg 52-3published at 10 overs

"Succumbed to the flavour of six-hitting"?! Oh Ramiz, how can we hope to compete with such poetry? Samiullah Shenwari is the new man and he turns the final ball of Badree's spell into the leg-side for a single. Super stuff once again from the spinner, 3-14 from his four overs.

  3. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 27 March 2016

    Ramiz Raja
    Former Pakistan captain

"And it is the captain who has succumbed to the flavour of six-hitting. If you hit a six you go for another one. Gone are the days when you were advised to calm and cool it."

    Stanikzai c Bravo b Badree 16 (Afg 50-3)

All going Pete Tong for Afghanistan here. Stanikzai finally breaks the shackles with a big six, but then gets carried and essays another big shot which goes straight into the breadbasket of Bravo at long-on. For the plucky Associates, problems.

  5. Afg 44-2 (run rate 4.89)published at 9 overs

Steve, you're essentially correct, a big win for the Afghans would rearrange the group order, but I'm quite of the exact margin required. Four singles from Benn's latest over, Afghanistan's run rate plummeting here...

What if Afghanistan beat Windies by 40 runs? Wouldn’t that mean WI NRR is worse than England’s, and we would top group? Or have I lost the plot on NRR calculations? If I’m right, then surely it is very disrespectful to Afghanistan to assume we will be playing NZ in the semi.

  7. Afg 40-2published at 8 overs

Badree in his element here, two new batsmen at the crease to befuddle and bamboozle. He's bowling mainly googlies that turn into the right-handers, and the batsmen are struggling to lay a bat on them. Just two singles, Afghanistan in quicksand here...

  8. Afg 38-2 (Stanikzai 7, Gulbadin 3)published at 7 overs

Gulbadin Naib is the new man. The spinners have clamped down on Afghanistan here, just five from Benn's latest over.

    Ramiz Raja
    Former Pakistan captain

"It's very difficult hitting Badree down the ground like that, the shot Shahzad was looking to play wasn't quite there. A short innings but he has looked promising throughout this tournament."

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6 overs

    Shehzad c Benn b Badree 24 (Afg 33-2)

The dangerman is gone. Shehzad was getting antsy after a very tight over from Badree, he tried to drill it down the ground with a horizontal bat and picked out the long limbs of Sulieman Benn at mid-off.

  11. Afg 32-1published at 5 overs

Another bowling change sees the introduction of Dwayne Bravo - a man who employs more cutters than a hairdressing magnate. Steady accumulation the order of the day for the Afghan batsmen, five runs off the over in ones and twos.

    Daren Ganga
    Former West Indies captain

"What an excellent shot from Shahzad, very typical of him. A little bit of flair and panache - that is how he plays. Afghanistan will think they can get a good total in these conditions."

  13. 6 runs

Afg 27-1 (run rate 6.75)published at 4 overs

Darren Sammy - definitely not a man who ever wears the same shirt-and-tie combo two days in a row. He switches up his bowling once again, bringing on Sulieman Benn. It's a good over, just two from the first five balls, until Shahzad kabooms a huge six over the top!

In the women's tournament in Mohali, India have won the toss and will field first against West Indies. You can listen to Test Match Special commentary by clicking the audio icon at the top of this page.

From an England perspective, a win for India would send England through to the semi-finals. But a Windies win means England need to avoid defeat against Pakistan this afternoon to make absolutely sure of not being eliminated on net run-rate.

  15. Afg 19-1published at 3 overs

Shahzad certainly has a few meaty strokes in his locker and it looks like he's starting to cut loose. New bowler Carlos Brathwaite is lofted over the leg side for four, then hooked to the boundary.

  16. ouch!

    Afg 9-1published at 2.1 overs

What's Andre Russell done here? He runs in to field a ball, and then goes down in a crumpled heap. Looked fairly innocuous but he seems to be in real pain. Off comes his boot and he's being helped off the field. Don't think we'll be seeing him again today, and that's a bit of a poser for Darren Sammy, who is going to have to find three extra overs from somewhere.

    Daren Ganga
    Former West Indies captain

"Good start from the West Indies, Badree continues his fine form with the ball. There's still a fair bit of batting left in this Afghanistan side though. Good players who can score quickly."

  18. Afg 8-1 (Shahzad 4, Stanikzai 0)published at 2 overs

Asghar Stanikzai is the new man. Another excellent over from Badree, just three from it.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.5 overs

    Ghani b Badree 4 (Afg 8-1)

Usual recipe from West Indies, Samuel Badree opening from the other end, and immediately he strikes. Flighted googly, Ghani doesn't pick it and it turns through the gate and clonks the timbers.

  20. Afg 5-0published at 1 overs

The teenager, thus reprieved, baseballs one straight down the ground - it's aerial, but he just gets enough on it and the ball trickles over the rope for four. That should settle his nerves.
