  1. wicket

WICKET - Shanaka run out 2 (SL 215-7)published at 45 overs

This could be close... is Shanaka's bat on the line or over the line at the moment Buttler removes the bails? It's his forearm which dislodges the bails but that's OK if the ball is in his hands... Out!

Rashid finishes with 0-60 but has bowled better than those figures suggest.

  2. Third umpirepublished at 45 overs

Rashid's final over and the boundaries have dried up. Sri Lanka profit from some overthrows, while there's a chance of a run-out at the keeper's end as Shanaka goes for a run, is sent back and they go upstairs...

"I don't think it is an easy pitch to get in on. You have to give yourself a little bit more time on this surface."

Dasun Shanaka, recalled to the Sri Lanka side today, is the new man at the crease - the threat of rain seems to have eased a little, but it still looks rather chilly in the stands.

"Not an easy catch for Jos Buttler when it is over your head and you have to turn round and run back. You have to say England are in the box seat now."

  9. wicket

    WICKET - Mathews c Buttler b Jordan (SL 209-6)published at 43.1 overs

Mathews, boundary-less for so long, tries a big hit against the recalled Jordan but skies it over short fine leg and the man with the gloves sprints over to take a good catch.

"With Rashid replacing Ali, if he keeps bowling as he is, calls for him to get in the Test team will get louder and louder."

"Mathews has not hit a boundary for 42 balls."

  12. SL 209-5 (Mathews 56, Tharanga 20)published at 43 overs

England have three overs of Jordan left, two of Rashid and Woakes, and one of Willey - so with Jordan and Woakes possibly set to bowl at the death, Rashid's going to bowl now.

Sri Lanka keep pushing the singles, but Mathews nearly sells his partner down the river when he dabs Rashid straight to the fielder at short fine leg and runs anyway, Tharanga has to race to the crease but there's a slight fumble from Buttler as he drops the ball but breaks the stumps with his arm.

George Spooner: Played on throughout whole of last year with a 'muscular injury' in lower back. Turns out I had a stress fracture in vertebra.

  14. SL 203-5published at 42 overs

Having gone big off the first ball, Tharanga and Mathews are happy to plunder ones and twos from the rest of Willey's over to take the tourists past 200.

"Mathews now has 31 ODI scores above fifty. Pakistan's Misbah-ul-Haq has 42 but has not made a hundred. They're the only two who have passed 50 that many times but have scored fewer than two centuries."

Umpire Paul Reiffel makes the powerplay signal to indicate we're into the last 10 overs, and Plunkett is going to complete his spell. Captain Mathews reaches his 30th ODI fifty (from a mere 173 ODIs) with a single - and Plunkett takes his cap with 3-46 from 10 overs.

Dickie, Dorking: Came sliding in full pelt from long off in local Twenty20 game... lost the ball in the gloom and took it straight between the legs. Had to stay out for last two overs then go to hospital for ultrasound on the delicacies!

  20. SL 186-5 (Mathews 46, Tharanga 7)published at 40 overs

As more of the crowd break out their waterproofs, Sri Lanka break the shackles as Tharanga finds the boundary for the first time with a (suitably agricultural for Bristol) clump through mid-wicket off Willey, who has 1-38 from eight.
