    Lead by 56

Can a drinks break bring a wicket? It's done the trick for England before now - and they turn to Steven Finn for his first spell of the day, but Pakistan now lead by more than 50 as Younus bashes the last ball of the over through the covers for four.

First bat Slazenger Panther. Have kept faith with the brand (three springs!), and my loyalty finally paid off with my first ever ton this season, using a battered, 20-year-old V100. The bat's retirement has now been postponed!!

    Pak 376-6

England shuffle their seamers for the last over of a wicketless first hour as Chris Woakes replaces Anderson. Just a bye from the over, so it's a maiden - but it's advantage Pakistan. Time for the traditional noon Test match combination of a drinks break and the Shipping Forecast.

This is not a Photoshop mock-up. Tony Greig genuinely used to bat in all-in-one gloves like this, which were a bit like oven gloves.

    Younus 112, Sarfraz 40

An easy-on-the-eye cover-driven four from Younus brings up the 50 partnership. England are battering on the castle door, but the drawbridge is firmly up for now.

That's a second piece of good fielding from Vince - he did one yesterday. He's not got many runs but he's got plenty in the tank in terms of saving runs.

The atmosphere at The Oval sounds a little flat - perhaps it's too early for the first beers of the day to have taken effect. Another great diving stop by Vince at cover denies Sarfraz and earns him a round of applause from Anderson the bowler as it allows him to complete another maiden over.

Charles Dagnall and Michael Vaughan on TMS are reminiscing over old cricket bats - now here's a question, what's the oldest piece of cricket equipment you're still using? Anyone still bat in those old white gloves with green rubber spikes on? Or pads with rusty buckles on?

    102 overs

We always seem to talk about the "crucial first hour" of any day of a Test, it's been unquestionably Pakistan's day so far. Sarfraz moves to 40 with a single.

Whatever happens in this match, it's been a tremendous series. In three out of four Tests we've come in to days three and four and not known which team will win. You'd say Pakistan have got their noses in front but if England can restrict the lead to 70 or 80 and bat well, they could get back in this.

    Anderson 24-8-68-0

If you're an England fan hoping for something to cheer about, there's not been a lot to report today. Anderson has bowled well and found a bit of swing - he sends down a maiden to Younus Khan here - but he's not found the edge today. On the plus side, England haven't dropped any catches yet...

Rae: Another inept display by England on offer today? This team are not good enough to be number one - no consistency.

PitchedOutsideLeg: Off for 4 x large cod, 4 x chips, 4x mushy peas. Not quick at our chippy, so I expect to see England batting when I get back.

We've been moaning about slow over-rates for most of this Test - and neither side seems in a particular hurry between overs. Sarfraz punches Broad through the covers for four, but is then denied another likely boundary by a great stop at short cover by James Vince.

We've discovered Vince hasn't been "demoted" from the slips (as one or two people suggested) - he's not in the cordon because of the finger he dislocated fielding at Edgbaston.

Younus does this under-arm drill where the coach or fielder just throws him balls lower down. All he does is get his head over the ball and maintains his balance.

    Younus 107 from 170 balls

Anderson has a chat with captain Cook and vice-captain Root between overs. It's a clash of two cricketing titans as Anderson duels with Younus, and for now Younus is on top as he waits for the right delivery to hit, carving a four through backward point.

There's something there in terms of swing. England are bowling too short. With Sarfraz, you can understand the bowler getting it wrong with the length because he moves all over the place. For Younus, I'd be tempted to get him on the half-volley.

    Younus 103, Sarfraz 35

Sarfraz is always on the (metaphorical) front foot, even when he's on the (literal) back foot. When he's not taking a step or two forward to take on the bowlers, he's hooking Broad over the wicketkeeper's head for four. A single apiece means it's six from the over - Broad has 1-68 from 21.

A few catches went down didn't they? Difficult seeing around the Oval a little bit? Sometimes they just come appearing out of the stands. But they were a few sitters.
