    Malik 66, Rizwan 3

Mohammad Rizwan is the new man and he gets off the mark from his first delivery faced from the returning Willey. Good running from Rizwan later in the over brings him two more, must have had some tips from Inzy.

Dan Gee: Dawson has been a class act for years, bowls four dodgy overs and the armchair experts condemn him. Glad he got a wicket at least!

Andrew Critchley: Proof today of how much England need Mo and Rashid in those middle overs.

Nice to see the delight from the England players for Dawson's first wicket. Hales was almost toppling over as he took that catch stepping backwards. Two dot balls to finish the over.

He gambled by bringing Dawson back, but he spun a couple of balls earlier in the over, that delivery bemused Sarfraz and Hales, still back-pedalling, caught the ball.

    Sarfraz c Hales b Dawson 90 (Pkn 240-4)

His first four overs went for 41 but Dawson returns and collects his maiden ODI wicket, some turn away from the bat resulting in Sarfraz launching it way into the grey skies and Hales takes an impressively composed catch in the legside.

  6. Pkn 238-3published at 37 overs

    65 needed from 78 balls

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has had a lot to endure on this trip but he has the relaxed air of a sailor on shore leave. Sarfraz advances again to hit Jordan down the ground for his 10th four.

Woakes restricts the tourists to two singles but time is not really a factor for them, they can tick the runs off at their leisure. The man who is off to Australia for taking that catch in the crowd is not concerned by the run-rate either, he's doing an informal conga, as opposed to a formal one.

Here's how Malik reached his half century. He made his debut in 1999 but is still only 34.

  9. Pkn 228-3published at 35 overs

    75 more needed

Four more for Sarfraz with a neat shot to third man. After an overthrow from a ricochet there is then a five as a wide down the legside from Jordan evades the clutches of Bairstow behind the stumps. The 150 stand is recorded, from 131 balls. A matchwinning partnership?

I suspect this will be quite a significant match, for the wrong reasons, for Liam Dawson. They've played some very good shots against him, but I wouldn't have contemplated him as a suggestion to go on the Test tour. In one sense, it's not fair to judge him on one brief outing - but it's not been great. If he was pencilled in, the pencil might be a bit fainter tonight.

Sarfraz must have plans for the evening, he swishes the returning Woakes rather agriculturally, but extremely effectively, and it's caught by an exuberant bearded gentleman leaning forward over an advertising hoarding at deep mid-wicket. The reason for this jubilation becomes apparent, he has won a trip to Australia for that effort!

  12. Pkn 207-3published at 33 overs

    Target 303

Stokes resumes but Sarfraz steps down the wicket to the first ball after the drinks break and lashes it into the legside for his eighth four, while Shoaib collects two with a stylish drive that Jordan hauls in from the boundary but slips while doing so, landing awkwardly on his knee.

Dave Wood: Understand the logic of playing one spinner with the Champions Trophy in mind, but probably more sensible to go with experience.

Robert Bach: How the hell was Dawson allowed four overs?! Could have lost us the game giving them that momentum.

Not even an umpire's call, it is going over by the proverbial mile from paceman Wood and Sarfraz remains on 60. England's sole review spurned. Much to ponder for the hosts over a drink.

There's always a chance of a run-out when Shoaib Malik is at the crease. Sarfraz was ball-watching.

Sarfraz brings up his half century in style with a boundary.

  19. Pkn 192-3published at 31 overs

    Stokes 0-38 from 7

A run-out could be England's best chance of a breakthrough and it almost arrives as Shoaib ends in mid-pitch, with his partner rooted to the crease at the non-striker's end. The veteran regains his ground and Morgan's scrambled throw from mid-off misses in any case. Four rather more calmly recorded singles result from the Stokes over.

  20. Pkn 186-3published at 30 overs

    Required run-rate 5.85

Wood gave England impetus with those two wickets in an over but it seems a long time ago now. Shoaib is next to record a half century, his 37th ODI fifty, and it is has taken him a respectable 49 balls. He also survives a direct hit from Joe Root, no real need for the review, but we've had a look to check anyway. Wood up to 89mph but the two batsmen are in command.
