Jonny Bairstow to the wicket to join Duckett. Just the two runs off the over as Bangladesh capitalise on Shakib's breakthrough.

Jason Roy batted well for his 41. He just wasn't able to get to the pitch of the ball, but he has given England a bright start on a potentially wearing pitch. Important breakthrough for Bangladesh. They will be looking to back up with a second wicket with two new batsmen at the crease.

    Roy c Sabbir b Shakib 41 (Eng 61-2)

Roy keeps his foot on the accelerator and skids off the tracks. He comes down to Shakib - who has changed ends - and doesn't connect properly, sending the ball to the man at long-off to be caught.

Simon Dancer: this England batting line up looks more like a 20 20 lot. If they bat through this could be a big score. Big if tho.

Martin Whiteley: James Vince in mid teens cheap wicket giveaway shocker - you couldn't make this stuff up is so hard to believe.

Rakesh Pradhan: At least Vince has cured his habit of giving slip practice

It is slow, it is low, so what can you do? Well, you can take the Jason Roy approach - on one knee and club it over midwicket for six. Brilliant. Mosaddek Hossain is the victim having come on with his left-arm spin.

I hope Duckett approaches the game as he would in a Northants shirt. Fantastic against spin, he has such quick wrists which allows him to manoeuvre the ball into the gaps in the field.

There are more tigers on show here than a Frosties factory. Fans dressed as tigers, carrying toy tigers, roaring like tigers. They are off their feet for a direct hit of the stumps by a fielder. Roy is home though. This comes after the opener had steered one wide of the keeper and inside fine leg for four.

    Here endeth the power play.

Shafiul set up Vince nicely, just dragged his length back a little before the slower ball forced the error.

Duckett eases himself in against Shakib, prodding tentatively at a few before stroking to leg for a duck-breaking single. It is one of just two runs from a good over.

It’s a big moment for Ben Duckett. He’s had a wonderful summer throughout 2016.

  11. Eng 45-1published at 8 overs

Welcome to international cricket Ben Duckett. He stands at the non-striker's end and watches Roy hit the rope with a flashing shot that sends the ball low through the fielder at backward point.

    Vince c Mortaza b Shafiul 16 (Eng 41-1)

This was always the likely way a wicket was going to fall. Shafiul's ball is on a good length and fails to come on with Vince trying to force the shot and mis-timing it to Mortaza at mid-on. The home crowd like it. They like it a lot.

A good move from Bangladesh to use spin early against players used to the ball coming on. Shakib is getting a little bit of grip.

    Disastrous call-ups

Mike Bell: Dad's boss's team. I was 14, and Dad told him I was 'promising'. Late call up. Ran out his boss, out for 1, dropped two catches.

Andrew Hill: Debuted as a weedy teen. Didn't bowl, faced 2 balls for 0, ran away from ball so it didn't hit me. Didn't play again.

Good shot, good fielding. Vince steps to leg and lofts a drive over extra-cover. It looks destined for the boundary but some nifty footwork from the man in the deep keeps it inside. Roy then chips one himself and sees the ball plug as he trots through for a couple. Tough pitch this - not coming on at all. Still nine from Shakib's over, though.

Roy and Vince are forcing the pace on a placid pitch, and pressuring the Bangladesh fielders into a few mistakes. It's important England make hay while the ball is new and hard.

  17. Eng 32-0published at 6 overs

Bangladesh are doing a good job here. Roy and Vince want to start swinging but they are being denied the opportunities they crave. Shafiul goes binary with alternating ones and zeroes. His last ball is a belter - a quick, rising ball that cuts in slightly and flies past the attempted angled guide from Roy.

Time for a bowling change. On comes the whirling, jerking slightly round-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan. He makes a fine start, keeping the England pair guessing. It goes down well with the home fans, one of whom - a young lad - is carrying a stuffed tiger bigger than he is. Did he have to buy an extra seat for that?

Roy has the final say with an excellent reverse sweep for four.

Roy again looks to steer one to leg but catches an outside edge that flies just past the outstretched hand of bowler Shafiul. The crowd volume rises again next ball as Roy flashes hard at a wide delivery.

Roy's third risky moment sees him land a mis-timed drive down the ground just behind the fielder at mid-off, who foolishly slides and digs out a huge divot with his knee. That's like me with a short iron in my hands.
