  2. Mad morningpublished at 07:08 British Summer Time 22 October 2016

So, in 23.2 overs this morning we have seen 55 runs scored and eight wickets fall. Madness.

The chances of this match going on beyond the weekend are diminishing by the over.

Don't go away, it may not be comfortable listening but it will be exciting. I suppose it's still England's morning but they are 28-3. You thought they'd played themselves into a great position but back come Bangladesh. The most culpable man was Root, a sweep early in his innings made himself vulnerable. He's the one that can bat for a long time so that was a huge wicket. We've got a great game, rather shorter than we thought, but we don't know who is going to win and when cricket gets like that it is absolutely fascinating.

Survive until lunch? Nah, not going to happen. Shakib comes round the wicket to Duckett who plays a nervous prod that propels off pad the glove before looping up to short leg. That is the end of an amazing first session. Duckett and Balance trudge off, the Bangladesh players are practically skipping.

Patrick Beames: Complete waste of a review by Root there, he couldn't have been more plumb.

  6. Eng 28-2published at 11 overs

Suddenly, every ball is a hand grenade for England. Ballance is beaten by Mehedi and then beaten again. If you're just waking up, where the hell have you been?! We've had seven wickets already this morning and it is turning square. One more over for England to survive before lunch.

There is no obvious sign that the pitch is deteriorating, last one was an innocuous delivery in a sense. I don't think the wicket has broken up more than yesterday, but it makes for a fascinating game. Root and Cook, the big boys, have gone.

After such a brilliant, confidence-boosting start to this session, England are now limping to lunch. Neither team can take decisive control of this Test. It is nerve-shredding stuff but absolutely gripping. Gary Ballance is the new man at the crease.

Obviously a big wicket, he played so well in the first innings. Joe Root was probably always going to review it. It would have been a big call for Duckett, who is not used to being the kind of fourth umpire, to say 'sorry Joe that's hitting the middle of middle, on your bike son.'

    The game takes another twist.

As suspected, it is a poor review because Root is stone dead. The ball pitched in line and was hitting middle stump three-quarters of the way up. Bad shot, bad review, England struggling.

It doesn't look good for Joe Root at the moment. They are looking for the edge but I don't think they are going to find it.

    Eng 27-1

Oh no. This looks out. Joe Root tries to sweep to a ball that straightens and looks to be destined for the stumps. He is out on the pitch. They've gone upstairs in desperate search of a reprieve.

  13. Eng 27-1published at 9 overs

    Lead by 72

Joe Root joins Duckett and is off the mark with a swept single. So far this session, six wickets have fallen for 54 runs. It was almost seven wickets as Duckett misjudges a little steer to leg and misses a ball that spins past off stump.

A good catch because he hasn't got much to time to see that, It was quite a full delivery he stayed on the crease, he had to play, it took the edge of a slightly open face. Cook went back, anticipating spin thinking he would leave it if it turned. Sometimes this new ball does skid on, it wasn't a viciously turning delivery.

Just when you think the game is swinging sharply in England's favour, Bangladesh pull something out of the bag. Mehedi does the damage again with a ball just short of a length that Cook is late to and edges low to Mahmudullah at slip.

  16. Eng 26-0published at 8 overs

That'll do Duckett some good. You could see the first signs of frustration but as Shakib goes too full he is able to sweep the ball powerfully away for four. He repeats the shot to add a single.

If Stokes continues like this he is going to be like gold dust, they are going to have to put him in ice. He's going to have to play every Test match because of his batting, they can't rotate him.

  19. Eng 20-0published at 7 overs

Conservative stuff from Duckett, who is very watchful of Mehedi. There is one moment of danger as he plays away from his body and slices just short of point. This is a proper Test tussle.

  20. Eng 19-0published at 6 overs

England have to accept that there are going to be risky moments in this innings. Bangladesh are going to be in the game with their spin. The tourists have to back their technique and judgement and use the experience of the first innings. Just the one run off Shakib's latest.
