I think batsmen are frightened to defend because they're not confident they can succeed. They don't trust their defence and the temptation is there to play a big shot.

Nick Helyar: Not sure if you could have a more perfectly poised game, Test match cricket at its very best. Good day boys!

  3. Ban 221-6published at 75 overs

It's catching. Sabbir is the new man and he also comes down the track to Moeen. After missing he is fortunate that the ball cannons into his pads to prevent Bairstow claiming another victim. Wicket maiden to start. Perfect start to the day for the tourists.

We've talked about Shakib and the way he bats, but that's just terrible. He didn't give himself a chance. That is horrible, dire cricket.

    Now we've started!

What an awful shot! Shakib, the experienced man, dances down to the second ball of Moeen's first over, misses it by miles and is stumped by Bairstow.

A wicket first ball yesterday, one second ball today. Eyes. This game. Can't take them off.

    So here is the rub...

Bangladesh are 72 runs behind England with five first-innings wickets remaining. Shakib Al Hasan (31) is at the crease along with nightwatchman Shafiul Islam (0).

The new ball is six overs away.

The track is spinning (like a record baby) and it certainly ain't gonna stop over however many days we have left.

My advice - get some toast on, keep the coffee coming and settle in for the ride.

It doesn't matter who the batsman is, nobody likes not being able to score. That's the problem England will face when they bat again. They have to be patient.

It wouldn't surprise me if umpire Kumar Dharmasena woke up in the middle of last night, soaked in sweat and screaming following a nightmare in which he was surrounded by laughing, baying cricketers making a T-shape with their two arms.

Poor Kumar has had a torrid time of it this Test with reviews - of which their were a world record 10 during the England innings.

There will be no hiding place today either with the spin sure to keep the fella in front of the video screens busy. As it stands, Bangladesh have two reviews remaining, England one.

What a difference a wicket makes. Were Bangladesh coming into day three with Mushfiqur alongside Shakib Al Hasan at the crease they would rightly claim the advantage in this first Test.

As it is, Ben Stokes' late seam sting means England have parity after two days of fascinating, intriguing, tactical cricket.

At the start of day two, the home side took a wicket with the first ball to seize the initiative. Over to you England...
