  1. Ind 333-4published at 114 overs

    204 runs behind

The ball comes under scrutiny and after it does not fit through a little circular gadget that reminds me of the template I use for chocolate sprinkles on cappuccinos, a replacement is called for, which is selected from a rather battered old cardboard box. Kohli punches a slower one from Broad down the ground to the boundary, just out of the reach of the big fast bowler as he stoops to his left.

Steve Morgan: Come on England, let's go again. Early wickets for my Friday night in Seattle.

Andrew Benton: England will bowl out India in 1st session for +/- 50 added runs, then bat out the day at 185 added for 1.

  3. Ind 329-4published at 113 overs

    Kohli 31, Rahane 5

Steady stuff again from Woakes. Rahane pushes the final ball back defensively and it is picked up by Kohli, who politely throws it back to the bowler. Very gentlemanly.

I saw the cracks in the wicket develop. Today my finger can actually fit in them.

  5. Ind 328-4published at 112 overs

    209 runs behind

Are the cracks in the wicket going to influence proceedings more today? Broad pitches one wide of off-stump and it scuttles through low. It's the not knowing, as they say. The TV pictures are showing Rahane in difficulties with the bouncer in the recent series with New Zealand but he pulls a short one away for two.

People have been very quickly writing this match off, saying it's a snooze-fest and that it will be a draw. If England think like that, they'll be 1-0 down on Sunday.

  7. Ind 326-4published at 111 overs

    Eng 537

Seam from both ends as Chris Woakes replaces Ansari and settles into a good rhythm in the mid-80s mph. Just the single conceded.

That's a beautiful shot from Virat Kohli - he opened the face of the bat, a big stride... just the type of wake-up shot you want. Magnificent.

  10. Ind 325-5published at 110 overs

    212 runs behind

Captain Kohli, resuming 26 not out, pushes Broad stylishly into the off side and it races away to the boundary.

Andrew Stone: I see being able to bat down to 11 is working out well for Australia.

  12. Ind 320-4published at 109 overs

In Rajkot Cambridge graduate Zafar Ansari completes the over he began last night, new batsman Ajinkya Rahane getting off the mark with a single.

Rashid was more controlled yesterday than he has been in his entire England career. If he can sustain that it will make a difference today.

  15. 'Naughty session' and 'crusty pitch'published at 03:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2016

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

If England bowl well like they did yesterday they could get a 60/70 lead. I think they could give India a naughty session or two because the pitch will get a bit crusty.

India could get very close to England's score, they could even get beyond. If they get past the first 20 balls it could be a very interesting game.
