    Jadeja c Hameed b Rashid 12 (Ind 449-8)

England keep the light flickering, albeit with a delivery that will interest Ashwin et al. It's a fizzing leggie from Adil Rashid, who is having his best Test in an England shirt. It kicks at Ravi Jadeja, who can't deal with the extra bounce and pops the simplest of catches to Haseeb Hameed at short leg. England could yet be batting by tea.

Ashwin is a very, very accomplished batsman for a guy who is in the team to spin the ball.

  3. Ind 447-7published at 153 overs

    Ashwin 48, Jadeja 10

If you've not been keeping up with India's fortunes over the past couple of years and are thinking that Ashwin is a place or two high at number six, think again. This is a man with four Test tons. You might not want him there when the ball is zipping about, but in these conditions he's a proper all-rounder. This is a lovely cover drive off Broad, all along the carpet. He's closing in on a half-century.

Nobody lacks confidence in playing shots here because the pitch is pretty good, the bounce has been pretty true. Jaedja has hit a six having only been on four and Ashwin has played like a millionaire, everything right in the middle of the bat.

Adil Rashid has a root around in his box of tricks but his fellow spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are up to the challenge. You can't kid a kidder and all that.

Jadeja responds to being hit on the pad by smashing six back down the ground. A meaty hit, which reduces England's lead below 100 runs. Worrying times.

The interesting question is how much Alastair Cook trusts his spinners, under pressure, under attack. He really would have to bat India out of the game before declaring.

Broad is another England bowler who has a small, white towel poking out of his trousers. Where do they get them from? s the hotel they are staying in currently missing a few? Ball hung outside Jadeja's off stump. Bait not taken. A maiden and drinks. Quite slow going.

  8. Sciver stars in Colombopublished at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2016

    England Women 198-4 (35 overs)

Take a bow Natalie Sciver. She has hit Sri Lanka all over the park, reaching 50 off just 24 balls, including nine fours and one six. She's the third English woman to reach a half-century in the match, after captain Heather Knight and Lauren Winfield.

A win here will see England qualify for the 2017 World Cup. You can see the full scorecard here

  9. Ind 436-7published at 150 overs

    Ashwin 43, Jadeja 4

I'm a big fan of that story, Andrew. I like to here of surreptitious cricket cheating, no matter what the level, especially if you didn't get caught. Ooofff, turn and bounce from Moeen, spitting at Jadeja like a cobra. Don't rule out something daft happening on this surface over the next day and a bit.

I hit my own wicket in my very first over batting aged 9. it was pouring down with rain so no one actually noticed I had hooked my bat round and clipped a bail off. I just waited for the over to end and put the bail back on without anyone noticing!!

Alastair Cook is off the field, leaving Joe Root in charge. Emboldened (or merely instructed by his absent skipper) Root replaces Woakes with Stuart Broad. He looks fresh, Broad, his whites looking freshly laundered, like an ice cream man. Nice and straight to Ashwin, who stands tall to defend. A maiden.

Ade:  If Australia's current Test side proves anything, it's that constant rotation, especially of average players, simply doesn't work.

  13. Ind 435-7published at 148 overs

Moeen's magnificent beard twirls towards Ashwin, who almost pops a chance into the off side. India haven't scored too heavily after lunch, elongating England's opportunity to force a result. There's a runs-to-time equation in place here. Stick with it, we could still be in for something feisty.

I think as soon as Rahane and Kohli got out the news would have spread, otherwise you would have had a fair crowd after lunch.

Are you just waking up? It's Saturday, go back to sleep. England have taken three wickets today, including Virat Kohli treading on his own stumps. Still Woakes, towel poking from the back of his trousers, slip and a gully in place for Jadeja. Woakes has dished out the hurry-up, but it might be time for a change. Maybe Adil Rashid?

Moeen gets his first look at Jadeja, the offie probably pleased to get a left-hander in his sights. Slip, gully and short leg, Jadeja scampering a single to get off the mark. One more and England are into the bowlers. Still the chance of a decent lead.

    England 148-2 after 29 overs

England's women are going strong against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Captain Heather Knight has reached her 50. Opener Lauren Winfield also made a half-century earlier before being dismissed. An England win will see them qualify for next year's World Cup.

Ravi Jadeja is the new man. How England would love to call on James Anderson to bowl at his old mate. In England, Jadeja's batting is about as useful as a congratulations card addressed to Hilary Clinton. In India, he's a different proposition - he's got triple-centuries in domestic cricket. Jadeja watches as Woakes continues to bang it in to Ashwin, who is getting into a tangle.
