England batsman Joe Root on Sky Sports: "We put a real good stint in there. Fair play to India for making it tricky but it gives us a lot of confidence going into the next Test, definitely a lot of guys can take a lot into that. We're doing a lot of really good stuff at the minute."

Excellent effort from England and very well batted Cook / Hameed. However, how costly does this make Cook's dropped catch yesterday? If he had held on, would have had an extra 30 minutes bowling at them.

Cook shakes hands with Kohli with three balls in the over left and that will be that. India close on 172-6. A draw and we go into the next Test in Visakhapatnam on Thursday level at 0-0.

England only have themselves to blame - they were four overs short the other night because they were too slow.

  5. Ind 171-6published at 52 overs

Welcome back. This game is going to be drawn, India are not going to lose four wickets in two minutes, there would not even be time for the departing batsman to leave the crease. Jadeja hits Moeen down the ground for his fifth four.

A maiden from Moeen. Things need to be put in perspective, so we will now observe Remembrance Sunday and will be back with you shortly.

They're home and dry now. Even if they were to get four wickets, three of them, at two minutes each, would take up six minutes.

Rashid from round the wicket to the left-handed Jadeja. There are five close catchers round the bat, four of them in helmets, so there is plenty of room elsewhere and Jadeja hoicks one away nonchalantly for his fourth four, as if he is playing in a beer match.

They could still get two in two balls here. That Mishra can't bat, he's on a pair.

  10. Ind 152-6published at 48 overs

Jadeja clips Moeen for three and Kohli calmly plays out the remainder of the over. There are 14 minutes left.

Saurabh: If India hold on, Cook will surely revisit his declaration. 260-275 is as safe as it get on a day five subcontinent wicket

Neil Leverett: Talk of declaration is moot. Cook's job was to get England safe versus an Indian order that can score runs. Fast.

Jadeja has a blank bat with no sponsor's logo. Someone could have got some prime advertising here. England have their substitute fielders in high-vis tabards as impromptu ballboys on the boundary to get the ball back to the bowler quicker and Jadeja twice finds them when Rashid strays.

An England supporting contingent in white Barmy Army polo shirts look on as Moeen continues for his 16th over in search of a second wicket. Nothing on offer. England sprint to the other end for the next over but the India batsmen are not in such a hurry and have a conference.

If I were Kohli, I'd take the off-spinner, so he can't get at the left-hander [Jadeja] bowling outside off stump into the rough.

In addition to the five men who are each around three yards from the bat, there is also a short mid-wicket but Jadeja keeps out Rashid. He is using all his 'professional experience' and ties a shoelace. But he then plays a fluent backfoot shot to the boundary. Play can continue until 11:05 GMT, have England got time to take four wickets?

Ben Stanfield:  Whatever happens, England have laid a marker down in this Test. India still a tough side to beat but confidence will grow now.

Moeen finds the glove of Kohli as the captain pushes forward. The pad takes the sting out of it and it drops short of a helmeted Duckett diving forward at the batsman's feet. England to bowl at the new batsman Jadeja next.

  19. Ind 132-6published at 43 overs

Ravi Jadeja is the new man and he is immediately beaten outside off stump. The England players are hustling to their marks for the next over.

Saha's innings was pathetic. He nearly got out before that, attacking. If the bowler gives you a long-hop then hit it, but apart from that, if they don't lose wickets, England can't win.
