  1. Ind 77-4published at 25 overs

    maximum 24 overs left

If England get Kohli out they will sense something miraculous could occur but the India captain, who must be wondering what sort of reaction will follow if his team lose this, flicks Rashid stylishly through mid-wicket for his third boundary.

Ashwin is the new man, who has defied England more with the bat than the ball so far, following his 70 in the first dig. There are 25 overs left.

That huge crack has opened up nearly an inch. But that was an immature, naive shot considering the state of the match and the fact he was on one not out. Until you get a few overs and a few runs under your belt, you wait and see what the ball's going to do.

    Rahane b Moeen 1 (Ind 71-4)

That has hit one of those Chester Road cracks, it has spun a mile into the right-hander, kept a little low, hit the pad and deflected on to the timbers. England with a chance.

The tail-enders won't bat like they did in the first innings when they came in at 400-and-plenty. With men round the bat, they won't have the defensive skills.

  7. Ind 70-3published at 23 overs

    Kohli 20, Rahane 1

Ajinkya Rahane is the new batsman. Kohli still using the full length of his crease playing back, unperturbed by his hit wicket dismissal in the first innings. No batsman has been out both times like that in a Test match.

That's an easy one. Inside edge onto the pad, onto the side and caught. Rashid man of the match, England win!

    Vijay c Hameed b Rashid 31 (Ind 68-3)

Is there life in the match yet? Rashid has made the breakthrough. Vijay caught off bat, pad and then chest at short-leg by the debutant Hameed, his fourth catch of the contest.

If anything, Moeen's been more of a threat than Rashid since tea.

  11. Ind 67-2published at 22 overs

    maximum 27 overs left

The Indian pair are rotating the strike with relative ease, milking Moeen for singles.

  12. Ind 64-2published at 21 overs

    target 310

Speaking of television 'classics' the jungle returns tonight on the light channel. Tuffers triumphed once didn't he? Which cricketers, past or present, would you like to see in there? Kohli drives Rashid down the ground for four more. The 310 target is notional but England's chances are becoming increasingly slim too.

  13. Ind 55-2published at 20 overs

    target 310

England's big bearded spin twins in tandem, "The Hairy Spinners" perhaps, as Moeen continues, again with three close fielders in catching positions. He pins Kohli on the pad in front of the timbers but there was an inside edge to stifle the excitement.

Why didn't we take a chance and get a move on in our innings. Declaring on, say, 300 for 8 after 60 overs would have given an extra 15 overs!

  15. Ind 54-2published at 19 overs

    target 310

Adil Rashid, who took 1-5 in two overs before the tea break, resumes the attack after the interval, with three fielders crouching around the bat, but Kohli drives the opening ball stylishly between the cover fielders and collects his first boundary.

Ismail Hameed on his son's style of play: "Haseeb is a batsman of a new era a mix of Geoff Boycott and players like Azharuddin and Joe Root, because he has a lot of shots. When the time comes you will see he has a lot of shots as well.

"When he defends he is like a baby Boycott but at other times he is like somebody else!"

Ismail Hameed on the family values that have helped his son: "I will travel wherever Haseeb plays because I coached him and if he makes a mistake I will be the best person to tell him what he is doing wrong. He wants his family to be here."

Thanks Stephan. So we might only have 16 overs left. But if England can nip a couple more out there are 31 overs remaining. Before the match resumes, let's hear a little more from the Hameed family on the fabulous debut from Haseeb.

Ismail Hameed, whose family originates from Gujarat, on his emotions after watching his son reach a half century in the area: "It was tears of happiness. If he does well it makes me feel really good inside and that's quite natural being a dad.

"I moved to England in 1969-70 having lived about the distance from Bolton to London away from this ground.

"It is true my hero growing up was Geoffrey Boycott because he was a good player who didn't like to give his wicket away.

"Cricket is different now but in those days people who can defend well and give a really good time to the bowlers were the really good players."
