  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42.3 overs

    Saha c and b Rashid 9 (Ind 132-6)

Gone. Chipped back to the bowler. There was a puff of dust that could have clouded the issue but the match officials are satisfied it is out. The time they have taken may have deprived England of another over though. Four wickets to take.

  2. Umpire reviewpublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2016

Is this another breakthrough? England think it is a caught and bowled but is it a bump ball? The umpires think it is out but have asked for a replay.

  4. Ind 132-5published at 42 overs

    minimum seven overs left

Saha, who has a Test highest of 104, swipes Moeen in rather ungainly fashion but it flies away to safety over the close fielders to the boundary and he drives in textbook fashion through mid-off to collect a second four in the over.

I'd have taken Ansari off, he's done his job and picked up what was a bonus wicket.

  6. Ind 123-5published at 41 overs

    minimum eight overs left

Ansari gets one to rear up off a length past Kohli's shoulder, like bouncing a golf ball on concrete. The India captain asks the umpire if that is the one permitted bouncer for the over. Smiles all round in the heat of the pressure.

Dan Gee:  Ah, the old village ploy. Soften him up with 5 balls of dross and get him on the 6th.

  8. Ind 119-5published at 40 overs

    minimum nine overs left

Mercurial leg-spinner Rashid returns, with diminutive wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha the new batsman. An excellent stop in the covers from Broad, swooping down from his giant 6ft 6 frame, denies a boundary.

Arjun Sohanpal: Why are we persisting with Ansari?! He's bowled fine, but now is not the time for his ordinary finger spin.

    Two minutes later ...

    Arjun Sohanpal: Oh. That's why.

That's what I've been saying, toss the ball up and it went as a simple catch to extra cover. Ansari's given up three boundaries pitching it short, but it's an important wicket as Ashwin played well in the first innings - and half the team is out now.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 39 overs

    Ashwin b Root b Ansari 32 (Ind 118-5)

Ansari had been dispatched to the boundary three times and we were just thinking the players might shake hands on a draw but Ashwin hit one low to Root at short cover. A minimum of 10 overs to take five wickets. Who is going to bowl them?

  12. Ind 106-4published at 38 overs

    minimum 11 overs left

Root is almost running back to his mark between deliveries and we could well get more than 15 overs in this last hour. The five men are still stationed around the bat but it is calmly negotiated.

Short from Ansari and stylishly put away to the boundary off the back foot by Kohli. Time running out for England. A minimum of 12 overs left to take six wickets.

  16. Ind 101-4published at 36 overs

    Kohli 32, Ashwin 19

Joe Root is the golden boy of English cricket and he has taken key wickets before. He has 13 Test scalps with a best of 2-9 and he beats Ashwin outside the off stump with his first ball, but is then thumped for four by the no-nonsense India all-rounder.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

If England bowl their spinners, you'd expect them to be able to bowl more than 15 overs in this last hour, possibly 17. But wickets take up time.

  18. Ind 97-4published at 35 overs

    Kohli 32, Ashwin 15

Umpire Kumar Dharmasena makes a dramatic signal with his watch. It's not a Rolex or anything fancy but it is to indicate that this is the last hour of the match. We can have a minimum of 15 overs but with the spinners on we could get more. But we could still finish at any point too, it's that flexible. Slow left-armer Zafar Ansari returns and Kohli clips him for two.

  19. More T20 internationals?published at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2016

An intriguing series of tweets from Sunday Times cricket correspondent Simon Wilde:, external

"The ECB are looking into pioneering international triangular Twenty20 series rather than one-off T20s. They are exploring a home triangular v India/Pakistan in 2018 and one is penciled in Australia/NZ on Down Under tour next winter. This has added advantage of sustaining public enthusiasm for T20 while the ECB plans new city-based domestic competition."

Moeen again, with the famous five all waiting menacingly around the bat for a catch, like those racer snakes in the fabulous David Attenborough series we saw earlier. But these two batsmen have coped admirably and offered little in the way of chances. The drinks break and the match could have ended at this point, but we will continue.
